They are but....you act like James was given these franchises 2mins after he was already fired lol. I doubt this guy will get rehired but...who knows? But it also seems like it was more the showrunner who fired him and not the network, the network backed their showrunner which is a tiny bit different.

Well to be fair Gunn got suicide squad not long after getting fired then was rehired by disney less then a year to comeback. It sucks to see someone loose a job like this and CW trying to act like they didn't know or do a background check.

I think if Sawyer had just gotten out in front of this he would've been fine. About a week or so ago when he made that BLM post would've been a perfect time for that kinda transparency. He had a t-ball of a swing and he whiffed it.

Im 90% sure that TheCW didnt vet his social media. If they had, they probably would've had him delete those tweets.

This is what happened to James Gunn as Hartley was trying to tell edgy jokes but the problem is these jokes don't really translate well on Twitter due to Twitter being overly liberal. Entertainers can't get away with being non PC on that platform as they will get massive backlash from the progressives and they will get endless tweets about being "cancelled" from the far left (Unless you're someone who thrives off that like Ricky Gervais).

I'm sure actors now are encouraged to delete their tweets from 5 to 10 years ago as those old tweets could resurface and damage their reputation. I'm not a fan of cancel culture as I believe people can learn from their behaviour and grow as a person. He hasn't tweeted anything too controversial in the last 2-3 years which suggests he's moved on from that. I'm sure Hartley Sawyer will find work but unlike the James Gunn situation Hartley doesn't seem to have the support of anyone from the Flash and it is a little sad to see Grant Gustin denounce him on Instagram but I understand his pov.

Regarding these tweets, yes they’re reprehensible but, these were from 6 years ago. Same with James Gunn, has he done them recently? Can he get a chance to redeem himself? I agree with you on cancel culture but that's the world we live in now and I'm sure actors are being told by their agents to be more PC in interviews or on social media to avoid massive backlash from the media or the people on social media.

Eh, I don't think folks are unwilling to accept change. They just expect some level of accountability and transparency. Sawyer, by his own admission, kept whatever journey he's been on since that time to himself and has not used his platform for advocacy. It understandably doesn't sit well with folks when they see a public figure having been outwardly offensive for the sake of humor, but unwilling to devote that same energy to the very activism they claim to support.

I get that these are bad jokes, but Gunn should've been the example for him. Whatever you say on the Internet will come back to bite you if you don't get out in front of it. Especially now when we understand that silence on these issues is seen as one being complicit in them.

At any rate, I hope he learns from this and can become more proficient in being actively anti-racist.

Show me the amount of A-list actors who havent under performers. It is more than just your box office that can define your status.

I agree that Sawyer should have been open about the insensitve jokes he told in the past if he was to speak on racism and express his regret on writing those tweets.

But to give him a benefit of the doubt he probably assumed that people would realise that those tweets were bad jokes and that they don't reflect on how he truly feel as he's spoken very passionately on issues regarding race or sexism but it backfired on him. Again all he can do is offer a sincere apology, learn from this experience and move on (at the end of day writing dumb tweets is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things)

This doesn’t sound like PC cancel culture to me. Even in 2012 these “jokes” were in bad taste and not funny. He straight up says women should be on sex farms. Not sure how that’s a joke? I just don’t know why they didn’t do a background check on his social media? There are regular companies that look for these things but a tv network can’t do this?

I can’t help but think they’ve reacted unfairly. As stupid as his comments were, I kinda feel sorry for the guy. This is a prime example of the toxicity that is social media. Your past can be dug up and used against you.

We going to see less of this if actors be more smart about this and delete their old tweets.

I never said it should but that's the reality of things. Same reason why Mark Whalberg has never faced any major backlash from Hollywood for even worst crimes.

Actors in general are self conscious about their image and they don't want old tweets to make them look bad.

It is the CW. CW's superhero shows are promoted as being inclusive and diverse so one of their actors having a history of bad taste politically incorrect jokes is more of firing offence than it may of been on a different network or show.

We have a outrage machine that actively looks for things to get angry about so if you said some questionable things in the past then you better find away to scrub that stuff or be up front about it before it comes back to bite you in the ass.

I kind of have mixed feelings about this. Yes some of the stuff he said was really messed up so I don't feel that sorry for him, but apparantly there are people out there constantly looking for dirt to get celebrities "canceled." So I guess this is a win for them... I don't know if that's a good thing.

I wonder if they'll just recast Ralph... or get rid of the character and give Sue a bigger role, I wouldn't mind that

Within the span of one month, they've already lost both their Batwoman and Elongated Man.

I’m not opposed to them recasting, as I always kinda felt he was miscast anyway, tbh. But given the decision recently made with Batwoman, I doubt they’ll consider a recast.

If it's just old tweets from 5-10 years ago, I'm against this. there's always the possibility this guy just wanted to be the next Andrew Dice Clay. However, if Grant Gustin is willing to back this up and the rest of the cast agree, there may be more to it than we know.
