The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 7

Is Marc Webb a rebuttal of Lumpkin's caveat, or a confirmation? I cannot tell. My brain tells me the latter but my experience with this site tells me Webb was a counter example, implying that he was actually relevant in any sense.

Exactly but to explain that to the person relaying it would be par to taking advance calculus during a hangover.

So as long as we all know it's irrelevant, it's all that matters.

The Wolverine example is another one. You really wanna bring up a film where Fox low balled an A-list character's budget in order to secure a profit for a character that should be up in the $600M - $700M club with MOS, Thor, Spidey, Cap etc. as a defense to what Fox is now doing to F4 but worse????

It's Wolverine, not Daredevil. I expect better of A-list Marvel characters. And ironically Fox is still low balling an arguably B-list team with a E-list effort.

Unfortunately none of this is a signed, witnessed & notarized confession from Fox, in triplicate, in five different languages, all fully registered and officially stamped with approval by pavlov, after being rushed to his house by a burly manservant in a doubly-locked briefcase handcuffed to his wrist to prevent tampering.

Thus, it is unacceptable, haters! :argh:
:wow:............................................ :pal: :pal::pal::applaud:applaud

Sadly that's what it all comes down to, so I guess until us haters step our game up, he wins! :woot:

I don't recall a comic book movie being hated as much as this film before it's initial release.

They get the *****iest kid from Project X to play Mr. Fantastic, release absolutely nothing regarding this film, and not even a title or an official screenshot of at least ONE of the heroes.

The movie is due next summer, and this film is more secret then the holy grail itself. I will see a real picture of Bigfoot before I see an official picture from this movie.

I'm like 99% sure this film will bomb and blow, but that one percent in me is still curious to see if this film has any redeemable features.

I do to but I ain't seeing this thing in theaters. No chance of that happening. I am curious as to how it is made though. I want this movie to make as less money as possible. Even the stars on the film seem to realize how bad it is. I don't think I've heard anyone say anything good about it. The only thing the stars say over and over again is how gritty it is. The one thing that the Fantastic Four is not.

True. And every problem with this film can be explained away individually. Every element of the worst film ever made can be compared to a great film that had that single element (but also many other good ones).

The problem with this film is there are very few positives (Top of my list is Josh Trank and he's a wild-card at best).

And the question at hand isn't "might this film be good?", it could defy the odds and end up better than we expect (as Spiderdevil touches on, it would be almost impossible for it not to meet or exceed current expectations.)

The question was "Does the studio care about the film (franchise)?" and I have yet to see one solid bit of evidence to indicate the studio has faith in this film or has been willing to invest more than the bare minimum.

I keep asking for someone to show me something good rather than arguing the bad things might not be as bad as they look. But nobody seems to be able to offer anything other than arguments that the bad might not be terrible.
That I agree with, this movie has a lot NOT going for it when most movie have one or two things
Maybe Fox does not care for this franchise,I just hope Trank and the cast are not let down and have given their best to make a decent movie

People here are saying this could tarnish Trank's career badly but I think there is a fair chance of it being the exact opposite, the budget of this thing will be 75 Mil at best, which is less than half of what's given to CBMs nowadays. And if Chronicle is an indicator,Trank will have fun with that and might become the guy to go to for budget friendly yet decent CBMs

He could be in hot demand from Marvel Sudios or DC

All Webb did before TASM was a bunch of music videos and an indie movie with a budget of 7 mil
Trank seems a much better choice for a superhero movie given how Chronicle is basically a superhero movie

How exactly giving a Spider-man movie with a budget of 230 Million to a director of an indie movie which was a romantic-drama a better decision than giving a Fantastic Four movie to a director who made a movie with 3 guys who got superpowers in an 'accident'?
And if you talking about giving contracts for sequels, who does that nowadays? None of the Marvel movie directors got signed up for sequels before the first movie was released, even the Russos' and Gunn weren't signed up for sequels until a month before release when the exec saw the final cut and liked it.

About Wolverine,Fox went all out with Origins, look what they got with that.Wolverine is not as popular as you might think he is

He does deserve to but for some reason he isn't

Since the ASM series is junk and ASM2 is one of the worst superhero movies ever made, I would hope Trank is a better choice. It isn't a high bar to clear.

The ASM series is a blueprint on what not to do, and as a result Sony is scrambling to try and salvage the franchise.

I hope this legit flops, like 15 million OW type of flop, then Disney can get the rights back for 10$ and a half eaten bag of chips from Fox.

I can definitely see where you are coming from....fans of the Fantastic Four and not really the other characters that come with them I think are going to be very disappointed even if Marvel does get the rights back because I see after this movie, and if it is a major flop, a VERY LONG time before we see an F4 movie again, if ever. As far as Silver Surfer and Galactus, they could definitely use those characters to make a hell of a lot of money, but for fans like myself who are more F4 fans than fans of the off shoots of the F4 that is not very intriguing. I see a Silver Surfer movie, possible Human Torch in other movies, etc...those things just really don't intrigue me all that much. But, I certainly understand how it could make others very excited to see this franchise go back to Marvel/Disney.

Even if we don't get an actual FF film, Marvel will have access to a plethora of key characters and elements that are with the property. And you don't have to introduce Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben in their own movie. They can feature in other Marvel films and be implemented slowly towards building their own fan base. I don't think its that difficult.

Cast the right actors and generate buzz.

Yeah the FF don't have to show up in their own movie yet. They could be like Hulk who appears in another movie. Of course, they shouldn't be Avengers but still the FF, but they can be on hand to help and ought to be in an event like Infinity War.

Dr Doom is someone who could've had a whole phase to himself, and even could have been the star of his own movie. It could be the first MCU villain movie which would actually make sense and be interesting in its own right, rather than Sony's Sinister Six film.

Also, if you wanted to go even bigger than Thanos, the next person would be Galactus. And if you wanted to go bigger than even Galactus, the next one would be the Beyonder. For the Beyonder, you'd want to do Secret Wars, for which you'd definitely need Dr Doom and the FF. Marvel could do Secret Wars even if it were lacking the X-Men. Potentially all the movies leading up to that could end in a cliffhanger with the hero or certain heroes disappearing.

The perfect place to introduce the FF into the MCU would be in the Infinity War Part 2 post credit scene. After witnessing the horrid cost of defeating The Mad Titan, hope comes in a small craft entering our solar system. On it is a family of adventurers thought lost nearly 60 years ago. We close in on the team, which includes Valeria and Franklin, as Reed simply says "We're home." The screen cuts to black.

The Fantastic Four will return in
Marvel's The FF: Emperor Doom

Kit Harrington from Game of thrones was actually also up for Mr Fantastic. I wanted the role to go to him and was disappointed when Teller got it but looking at it now Harrington looked to have dodged a bullet by not headlining this turkey.

We may all be overreacting FOX could have something great up their sleeves, I don't see it but I was just giving them the benefit of the doubt.

This is an interesting point. There were some better names rumored and Trank flat out denied Teller . . . then Teller turned out to be it.

I had wondered if the studio had forced Teller on Trank, but now you've got me wondering if the people Trank wanted other than Teller saw what was going on and turned it down.

It's like they couldn't get anyone else for their fan film found footage project so they just went with people Trank knew (MBJ) and one of his co stars from That Awkward Moment. Maybe Zac Efron and Imogen Poots didn't want to get involved, quite sensibly so.

Trank just cobbling together a cast this way seems much like that Bowfinger movie. He even seems to be having a similar filming philosophy.

Speaking of cast, the crazy part is we have heard of no extras on the set. It seems to be only 5 people in this movie, unless I missed something of course. No supporting roles, nothing. Maybe it's filmed like that movie Gravity..........

Yeah. I can't wait to see the virtuoso single takes in Fantastic Four.

After denying that Teller was involved wasn't it eventually revealed that Trank had Teller helping him during the casting auditions? Reading parts when testing actors.

This is reminding me of exactly what Fox did with Dragonball Evolution. Only big difference is, that movie had publicity stills a year before it hit theaters.

!!!....I'm surprised you guys did pounce on this. It's like getting 3 free throws with 0.02 seconds left, down by 2.

Then again it does just feel like the same thing over again and over again with these guys. But hey, I'm bored, so...

I think a bigger question is why you presume anyone here cares.... Is your argument that FOX should've invest more in Trank? If so well therein lies one of the many issues people have with this reboot, so thanks for pointing that out I guess.

If this is a Trank vs Webb debate then Pfft! As far as I'm concerned Owe Boll vs Joel Schumacher would be more entertaining discussion neither of which helps your case.

About Wolverine,Fox went all out with Origins, look what they got with that.

He does deserve to but for some reason he isn't

Okay.....thank you....the Defense rest.

Plus LOL @ describing "Origins" as "Went all out"! That's definitely a new one!

Wolverine is not as popular as you might think he is
Now this is just a cop out! Coming into 2000 he was Marvel's #2 behind Spider-man up until Marvel Studios made their first run with Ironman.

So what, if Fox can't make a top notch Wolverine film then no studio can???

Wait, WHAT! Found Footage??? Please dear god tell me this is not going to be some found footage crap? I have never head this, this isn't confirmed that this is the way FOX and Trank are going? Oh my GOD, this is a joke. If this is the case I will say for 100 percent certainty that i will not see this film. I can't stand them found footage films. It's just not my thing. That concept seems so dated and went out in the early part of the decade. Why in the hell would you make a F4 film a found footage project? Is this what they mean when they keep saying edgy and gritty and grounded??? I know I read that Trank or MBJ said it's a different concept from the standard superhero films, I hope this is not what they are trotting out as a different concept. This is a terrible idea. I hope this is isn't true.

It says something about the casting when Kit Harrington is considered a 'better name' for Mr. Fantastic...
