The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 7

Wait, WHAT! Found Footage??? Please dear god tell me this is not going to be some found footage crap? I have never head this, this isn't confirmed that this is the way FOX and Trank are going? Oh my GOD, this is a joke. If this is the case I will say for 100 percent certainty that i will not see this film. I can't stand them found footage films. It's just not my thing. That concept seems so dated and went out in the early part of the decade. Why in the hell would you make a F4 film a found footage project? Is this what they mean when they keep saying edgy and gritty and grounded??? I know I read that Trank or MBJ said it's a different concept from the standard superhero films, I hope this is not what they are trotting out as a different concept. This is a terrible idea. I hope this is isn't true.

There have been a lot of rumours around that they are going for a found footage style for the film, even from before filming started. When Fox's President of Production was interviewed by Hollywood Reporter in JUne they asked her if it would have the same found footage feel as Chronicle, her replay was "It's Josh, so it can't not have that feel." There are other things that could indicate that they taking this route with the film, such as the rumored low budget (found footage films are cheap films). But ultimately we don't know how much of a found footage feel, from a shaky cam look to pure found footage.

It says something about the casting when Kit Harrington is considered a 'better name' for Mr. Fantastic...

Exactly. I can't remember all of them, but I didn't like any of them
. . . while I hated Teller.

Not a joke, otherwise the thought of there being a found footage FF movie would never have crossed my mind. That's just another one of the long list of things people dislike about this movie.

And yes, they are dated and that's probably part of what they mean by edgy, gritty and grounded. They're trying to make out it is deliberately cheap looking when in fact they simply don't have the budget to have huge special effects. With found footage you won't be able to make out everything that is going on so they can skimp on the effects and say that it's out of the frame at the time so wasn't filmed too clearly.

I will be buying several GOOSEBUMPS tickets that weekend.

I'll go see it, out of curiosity. But, it is very doubtful it will get a 2nd viewing, or a DVD buy later on.

(Sigh)...I don't think Fox cares how they get your money just as long as they get it. Thus they wont have learned anything. I'm with Art Freak on this one but hey it's your money, hopefully yours is all they get.

You mean you'll still go and see it anyway? :o

Why would you go and see this in theaters and give Fox what they want? Just wait it out. I'm sure we will all see it but not in theaters. It's like going to a restaurant and eating tainted meat. TAINTED MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :exp:

I go and see lots of movies that I deem may not be so good. I may enjoy the movie for what it is, not hate it for what it isn't. It will be the matinee, and there will be no buying DVD, etc...so, not making too much of a dent there. lol

I'm going to wait until we see more before deciding if I'll go or not.

If it genuinely looks like the Fantastic Four, I'll go.

If it looks the way I imagine it - more like Chronicle with people who have powers similar to the Fantastic Four, but don't look like the Fantastic Four and spend the film struggling with those powers rather than soaring and offering amazing adventures - I don't think I'm going to go.

I could watch an Ant-Man that doesn't look like Ant-Man or Wonder Woman that doesn't look like Wonder Woman, but I'm too close to the FF. If it seems like it's going to be a bastardization of the FF, it would just be an unpleasant experience for me to endure.

This isn't a movie, it's a time bomb. You know..........if I was a mod, I think I'd ban you for trolling with that post. :argh:

Seriously, you are only proving Michael B Jordan's point when he says he will take a dump, put a little sugar on it, call it brownies and people will still eat it up. I really wanted to see TMNT but did not because Bay made it and I refuse to see anything that man has made in theaters again. Sometimes you have to send a message.

I'll wait, and I'll go see it if it is so bad that is funny, or something like that.

I somewhat agree with your point.

I guess all hope has died. Might as well change the name of the thread to "I might want the rights to revert back to Marvel"..................:csad:

It seems silly to me for anyone who is complaining about the F4's treatment to still go and pay for it at the theaters. I will not pay for this movie. FOX will not burn me again on comic films. I paid for another movie and saw DOFP because I didn't trust FOX and Singer and I hate the way they have handled the XMEN. Their are just too many deviations and liberties from the comic for my tastes and characters that are just in name only. Kitty Pride can now send someone's mind through time? WTF?? It was a good film but not a good xmen film. Fox didn't get credit for my ticket purchase. Sometimes we have to stand our ground as fans to send the studio a message. Even if we don't get the desired result we are enough to make a difference even if it is small. So we sit it out and F4 makes 100 million as opposed to a 150 million as an example. I would love to say I don't see this movie making a 100 mil but you never know and i'm sure FOX is going to be flashing that Marvel movie logo as much as they can for a big opening weekend.

I've said before they aren't getting a dime directly from me. I'll watch what netflix sends me, and if I like it I'll buy a used copy off ebay for pennies on the dollar. If that means I don't get to see Planet of the Apes in theaters so be it. I have a pretty good set up at home and only hit the theater 5 or 6 times a year anyway. I've boycotted Activision for years and can easily do the same with Fox. And will be, for the forseeable future.

I still haven't seen X-Men origins Wolverine yet, nor the Wolverine and Green Lantern. Have only ever caught bits of Catwoman but never the whole thing. I won't be seeing FFINO in theaters.

I don't care if this movie does turn out to be a hit among audiences or critics. I'm not going to see it in theaters.

I'm not going to see it at all.

I won't judge anyone who wants to see it, but you literally couldn't pay me to see it in any format.

I learned my lesson after the first film. Resisted the urge to see RotS even after those awesome trailers with Surfer, and my judgment proved accurate. The reboot isn't even trying to entice me into seeing it, so that makes my decision pretty easy.

And this one comment made me stand up and give applause for making more sense than the article:

I'm interested why you choose to reply to this.
Is this due to all the bad comments you received on the last post? or is it because this is a blatant opinion piece paid by fox that you desperately need to succeed to sustain advertising and prop up your flagging readership and lack of quality content.

As i have fallen for the click bait I'll reply with the following

Yes the majority of comic book fans want to see this property under marvel studios.
From all accounts on the message boards the majority want it to fail for this very reason.

Most Marvel fans would be quite happy with the fantastic four sitting on the shelf for another 10 years and have them cameo or be referenced to in the background and be quite satisfied knowing they are in the same universe.
Having the Baxter building placed in the background as Thor hurtles past is a good enough Easter egg to satisfy most Marvelites.

Most of the fantastic four have been put to better use outside of their own book recently anyway.( I would be amazed if you even read the current run)

your whole argument about inconsistency is tenuous at best.

None of the above have strayed from the essence of the characters.

and if you really paid attention to what was going on you would realise that
-Howard Stark and the creation of Shield has been introduced into 616 law in recent years by Jonathan Hickman.
-Samuel LJ can still be Nick Fury Junior
-The mandarin a British actor. see Marvel 1 shot All Hail the King.
There's many more here that others can reply to and I'm sure that the Heimdel fan club are over the race change thing (cant recall how many copies is limited series sold oh wait.....)

I have been visiting Newsarama at least 3 times a week since its inception (could be as far back as 1998? cant remember)

I'm done.
I'll observe this post for 2 days to see your replys (or heavens forbid another article) but your desperate attempt to pump up a movie via advertorial is a disgusting last ditch attempt to attract attention to yourselves and your failing site.

I recommend others do the same take the 2 seconds to remove it from your book marks and try other new sites out there like panels.net hell even IGN is better than this and thats not saying much.

I look forward to this post getting deleted.

Yes, they're deleting the comments because the site got its feelings hurt over the truth.

We can't say, with certainty, that this won't be the greatest Marvel-based film ever made.

Sure, it's extremely unlikely, but we've been holding out the irrational hope that Marvel would get the rights back, so why not maintain some hope that Trank will come out of hiding with a film tucked under his arm that brilliantly brings the Kirby FF to life?

IF this defies the odds and is a well done tribute to the real FF, Trank and Fox deserve to be rewarded.

Sure the odds are very slim, but I think to basically say: "I won't see this film even if it's the best, most faithful Marvel-based film ever made." doesn't make sense.

If we see some images and footage that confirms our worst fears, sure, Fox doesn't deserve our money, but I think it's premature to make that decision.
