The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 9

Oh man.

"Give us Fantastic Four and all related characters and you can have tv rights to X-Men."

That's the bargaining chip.

There's still time, Marvel. Get the rights back, keep this movie from coming out, and give us what we know you CAN give us.

Hell Yeah!

Thats a good fair trade if the TV rights to a property FOX really loves means that much to them. They can expand its precious X-verse. Just let go of the other property they obviously care nothing about. At least get something for the FF. A little cash and the TV rights and maybe some type of agreement on Xmen merchandise.

Those are good points too. Also, I remember in the past we've speculated on these boards about the possibility that there is a "renter's fee" of sorts between Marvel and Fox with respect to these past deals given how Fox allowed the rights to DD expire without trying to sell them back earlier and get something for them. If Fox is paying some sort of annual rent to hold onto these rights, that would also make the FF less valuable to hold onto.

Remember also that FOX came to Marvel hat-in-hand, not the other way around. Marvel loses nothing by holding out for the best deal possible. And as we've seen in their dealings with Sony, they employ fairly astute negotiators.

There's no way the rights to an X-Men tv series are worth the FF. Fox would never sell the FF for that.

There are other things Fox would probably like to have though, such as X-Men merchandizing rights. Throw enough things together in the pot, and I think Fox would trade the FF for it.

Fox made the largest streaming rights deal in history in regards to "rerun" content with Netflix on their comic adaptation Gotham. How big? An estimated $1.75 million per episode. That's just for streaming rights. Fox also makes money from advertisers, physical media sales, and VOD. Fox is making more actual profit from Gotham than Sony made on TASM2, a film that grossed over $700 million. There is plenty of money in television right now if you know how to manage the digital rights.

Fox had a great 2014, eventhough I think X-Men should have done a little better domestically. Sony's biggest problem is that they are spending like they have Spider-Man's merchandising rights.

X-Men is hot right now, FF is not, 2 failed films, an already troubled production that Fox doesn't even know how to sell. Disney would be taking the big risk in such a deal

People do know that Fox Studios and 20th Century are two different companies right? Run by totally different management?

That is why Fox Studios is the one talking to Marvel. Because 20th Century ain't going to give up anything. LOL

If the show is meant to be set in the film continuity (as Kinberg implied it would be months ago),, 20th Century has plenty to gain. The show works as advertisement for their films (like AoS for Marvel) and it benefits News Corporation, the parent company. The Marvel television shows are done by a separate branch from the films, but they work together because it benefits both of them (plus the parent company).

If Marvel doesn't use the X-Men TV show as their bargaining chip to get back the F4 movie rights, I'll be extremely disappointed. Don't give Fox anything unless they give you what you want, Marvel!

Marvel ain't about to give Fox anything. Especially after they said F you with the F4 rights for Daredevil. They wouldn't even let them borrow their own characters. Not to mention they basically made Marvel stop writing F4 comics(though they will be back)because of this movie. No way will Marvel budge on those tv right unless Fox pays up big time.

Finally, something

that's the costume, by the way, not a mocap suit or something

Fun fact: that costume has amazing bass levels.

Seriously, though, who thought it was a good idea to make Johnny look like a sound system? Dear lord, Reed really is going to have springs on his arms and legs.

And of course the suit is black and virtually colorless because Fox.

Fox still making comicbook movies like it's 1999.

1. It appears that Vent/Speaker are four tally marks. Hence, the '4' logo.

2. This appears to be the protosuit that was mentioned in the report earlier, but it doesn't inspire much more confidence in the final suits.

That kind of aestethics were fine like 15 ago, X-Men influenced, or Bat-Burton, but today, after audiences got used to colorful costumes, the need for a realistic black suit is non existent

Yep I totally get that it is not the FF's final suits but I still am expecting the final suits to suck.

@Kanon I agree that the black suits were mildly understandable 15 years ago, but unless your character is Batman or has always worn black I don't get making their costumes black.

As I said before I'll shut-up about the color thing if their final costumes are blue but right now I'm getting annoyed X-Men flashbacks.

FF 1994 isn't looking so bad now.

Plan 9 from Outer Space isn't looking so bad now. The entire filmography covered by Mystery Science Theater 3000 is looking better now.

****ing Batman & Robin isn't looking so bad now.

Oh for ****'s sake, I didn't even notice that. The logo is tally marks. Awesome. :whatever: Dragonball ************* Evolution more or less got Goku's "Kame" emblem right.

Brilliant! Utterly brilliant! We got our first look at something from the film, today is a day of Thanksgiving!

Based on the tone of the film (sci-fi driven), the tally symbol makes sense.

You're called sleekstereo. MBJ looks like a sleek stereo in that ridiculous costume.
