I'm probably going to be alone on this, but I really didn't see what the big deal with Thor was. It was okay, but I didn't have that awestruck feeling I was hoping for. The ending also felt anti-climactic. Admittedly, I'm not one for the mystical world themes either way so my opinion is skewed.

I loved Thor but my main problem was that Loki was a sub par villain imo, really didn't feel like a threat at all.

Villains make the heroes IMO. I can't wait to see the flick.

How do you all think Banner should be portrayed? Should he be moping around a sad depressed victim or should he be resourceful even when he's not Hulked up?

Sciencey, resourceful and competent. He doesn't have to be winning fistfights with guards or anything, but I prefer a non-mopey Banner who's handy to have around even when he isn't hulking out.

100% agree...

No one answered my question :csad:.

Someone was complaining about the Avengers Hulk being "bloated." When was this Hulk described as being bloated?

Flint Marko said:
Is nobody else worried about what the hulk is gonna look like? So far it doesn't sound to great..Mark Ruffalo's face, 'big green and bloated' and walking on all fours..?
They got it perfect in TIH, I don't know why they think they need to redo it...

Ruffalo said in an interview the concept art of the Hulk he saw was essentially a "bloated, green version" of himself or something to that effect.

Feige on Hulk television and Ruffalo's Banner...I really have no doubt about Ruffalo -

Mark Ruffalo interview...I swear this will be BIXBY good (LOL...you crazy guys)...Look at that picture...He's channeling Bill...

He's actually starting to have Bixbyisms...if that makes sense? I still wish Norton was Hulk, but I think Ruffalo will do a fantastic job.

I said this last summer, and I'll say it again.

Mark Ruffalo will nail this role.

This WILL do.

It does to me. In the video interview I posted above, I love how he gets subtly tense as he says "he likes to imagine he can tear the roof off this place" or something like that. It made me smile.

Agreed. I want to see that bloated comment too.

Isn't that what Ed Norton was doing? ;) .

Yes...but what's done is done.

Ruffalo is a good actor, I think he will do a good job. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little underwhelmed how many times the Bruce Banner role has already been recast.

Yeah, he's one of the few actors that has done just about every type of genre. He's extremely versatile.

I don't like all the recasting either. Hopefully Mark comes through and sticks around.

I hope Ruffalo doesn't have such curly hair in the movie when he's Banner. He either needs it straightened or should have a tighter perm like Bill Bixby. In fact, a Bixby hairstyle would be cool.

I think that is when he's just finished transforming and his hair is a bit unkempt. Usually his hair was more perfectly and tightly coiffed than that.

This is more what I'm thinking of:

Bill_Bixby.jpg

Ruffalo's hair is not bad in that picture above, but his hair at the moment seems longer and slightly messy. Just cut it a little shorter or perm it a little tighter and he'll be giving off more of a Bixby vibe.

I just hope he isn't too laid back in the role though. He needs to maintain the nice guy feel and sense of decency, but Bixby also had a real intensity simmering under the surface. I'd like to see that in Ruffalo, so that you'd feel that you don't want to cross him or make him angry. If he seems to laid back, easy going and phlegmatic, you'd wonder how he's ever going to turn into the Hulk. It would be like "hey, don't worry about it, it's all cool".

Imagine how electrifying each scene would've been if Bixby were alive today and it were him in the Avengers alongside Downey Jr, Hemsworth, Evans and Jackson. Can you imagine the tension from the verbal sparring and conflict between the characters that would cause Bixby's temperature to rise?

Well to be fair, Thor could just dimension dump Hulk. But that wouldn't make for an interesting read. So they have long, drawn out battles, where Hulk usually wins, because he's more popular.

Then why doesn't Spider-Man kick the Hulk's butt on a regular basis?

:D

You know, after seeing that pic of Bixby above, I've got to say, I would really enjoy it if Ruffalo wore those same, exact contact lenses to signal the "Oh crap!" moment of the transformation. Those Point of No Return eyes were chilling and a great indicator that stuff was about to go down...things were about to get broken...and justice was about to be served.
I love how they made Norton's eyes turn green signaling the transformation in TIH....but they just made him look like a guy with green eyes. The contact lenses made Bixby look like he was going from something human to something...beyond:

I don't think any other live action version of the Hulk has ever had that chill factor. There's nothing really that scary about either Ang Lee's Hulk or TIH. Maybe they didn't allow the suspense to build up enough, and neither actor was able to channel that intensity and building rage.

Even though TIH tv series may seem cheesy now and the special effects laughable, it is still the most haunting and probably the scariest. There's nothing that compares with the TV pilot first transformation in the thunderstorm except maybe a few other TV episodes of the series (eg The First).

Hey JJ. Yeah I know what you mean about the mystical stuff. I don't, maybe I'm a little different in as much as I don't go into a (comic book/action) movie looking for a deep meaning or any of that other jazz. If the story is decent, the acting is good and I have fun, getting away from it all for a few hours, it's a thumbs up for me. After thinking about it I would (objectively) say that the story was a little rushed and Thor going from arrogant to humble in such a shot period of time was pretty sudden. Other than that I thought it was cool to see a comic come to life on the screen. I also think that Marvel is doing a pretty good job at setting up the Avengers. The bonus scene has got me pumped up to see how it's all going to come together. It should be a fun summer.

I thought that the might be the reason they went Ruffalo. Just take of 15 pounds...

The intensity is what Bixby had. Even when he would caution guys to take t easy, he exhumed a power lurking in him.

Right, the chill factor is missing. There was never one time in the show where the change seemed bleh. What made it Bixby Good was Bixby's acting, Harnell's perfect music score for the scenes and that haunting hum as he changed.

Defiitely memorable stuff.

I will admit both films lacked the chill factor but I kinda did get it from the first hulk out in TIH. As for the eyes, I had wished they'd used the Bixby eyes in TIH, I thought they were more effective than the glowing green Norton had.
