I’m in the states and I’m a litigator as well. Ironically, I tore my deltoid lifting weights in law school. So I feel your pain (literally)
Sorry meant to reply earlier, but was dealing with urgent motions last week and it slipped my mind (as I am sure you understand.)I’m in the states and I’m a litigator as well. Ironically, I tore my deltoid lifting weights in law school. So I feel your pain (literally)
No surgery, but I wish that I had.Sorry meant to reply earlier, but was dealing with urgent motions last week and it slipped my mind (as I am sure you understand.)
Jeez, that is pretty much exactly on point. Did you have to have surgery to repair the tear? I know you mentioned running in here. Do you still lift at all or stick mainly to cardio these days?
I very much admire anyone who can run or jog for exercise like @Iceman . I just can't do it. It bores the crap out of me. I used to do a circuit of high intensity boxing-related stuff for my cardio, like heavy bag, shadow boxing, jump rope, etc.. Typically it is done based on a 3-min rounds system, so it was more like the rhythm of sets and rest that you have with weights. But given the upper body involvement, the shoulder stuff put that on hold as well.
I have my first physio appointment this Friday, so I am really looking forward to it. I found a great local physiotherapist with a focus on university and national level amateur athletes, so I figure he will be a great fit.
Those injuries don’t sound fun. Must have been a challenge to get through. Congrats!!10 years, 4 months, a torn tricep and elbow tendonitis later, I finally PR’ed on DB incline! Long road of rebuilding.

Elbow tendinitis is the flippin worst! Congrats on your PR.
Come on man, speed it up...!Slow 4.2 miles today. I need a new rucksack*** before I can run on workdays (for a change of clothes) in the office for now as my old one split.
Hah yep. Spidey is my target today. If I see himCome on man, speed it up...!

Sorry to hear about the issues and glad you’ve started on the path back. Sounds like you’ve got your bases covered with those 3 forms for exercise.Okay, I have been off of this section for a while. Deliberately, I might add.
Have a lot of s**t going on in my life right now which I won't bore anyone with. But the result of it all is that I have not had the motivation which I normally would have.
Couple that with a quite bad chest infection that took me around 5-6 weeks to get over and this takes us to about the end of last week.
I had still been doing some of my 4-5 mile walks but not every day as I would normally. My diet also took a bit of a hit, nothing as bad as during lockdown. But bad enough from my perspective.
A friend convinced me to have a workout at the gym with them last Sunday. Which I, albeit a bit reluctantly, did do.
It felt okay! But I know that I have lost a fair amount of strength and fitness.
Fast forward 4 days and I have gone back to my usual gym routine, although less weight being lifted, for now. So that's Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays taken care of.
Every day I am walking 4-5 miles and throwing in an hour on my cross trainer in the workshop.
My rationale is thus:
Walking for fat loss (6-7 days a week)
Cross trainer for (mainly) heart and lungs (6-7 days a week)
Gym for strength training thereby looking after muscle and bone density (3 days a week, alternate week days)
Diet is back on track too.
At my wizened old age, that's about as much as I can muster mister...![]()
Nice, lots of calories burned. Don’t think I’d be able to stick to the 1 meal a day thing though!Managed to stick to my diet and exercise regime throughout Mon-Fri. The next two days are solely walking and cross training.
Food is mostly already taken care of as I have a bunch of chicken cooked up.
Just have to cook my spinach and scrambled eggs, then prepare my avocado...
Edit
Today I've done around 4.5 miles walking and an hour on my cross trainer. And it's only 3.18pm!l
Also did some chores around the house and garden. Busy day so far...
I can now look forward to my one meal of the day at around 6-7pm... yay.![]()
Well, I'm quite ancient as you know and have to use every trick in the book to burn that stubborn belly fat...Nice, lots of calories burned. Don’t think I’d be able to stick to the 1 meal a day thing though!
Great to hear. Hopefully it can get back to 100% soon. Sounds like you're in good hands.Physio has been going well. First week, we focused on stretching to improve upper thoracic mobility. Did twists with broomsticks, trap stretches, and pec stretches. Doing the trap stretches, I noticed that the tightness was actually coming from my right levator (little muscle on the inside of the upper trap that connects the inner, upper corner of the shoulder blade to the neck) and it felt like it was holding back other exercises. It literally felt like shoulder blade was hanging from a taught rope connecting it to my neck. My physiotherapist gave me a modified version of the trap stretch to focus on the levator and it was instant relief. It has also made my other exercises feel much better and more productive.
On Friday, we added external rotations with a band to start strengthening the rotator cuff and they feel great. Took a little white to get the form right on my left side. I was feeling the burn on the wrong part of my shoulder, not the back (supraspinatus/infraspinatus/teres major) as intended. But I have got dialed in on both sides now. Am very happy with my progress.
31.9m vs 2m haha. Good comeback!Start of a new week, as far as my Polar Flow web thingy is concerned... For your amusement, I have taken a screenshot of a good and a bad week.
I'll leave it to you to decide which is which.
Hopefully, I can manage to make this week as productive as the previous...![]()
