The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 10

On a totally unrelated note, Amazon is having a sale of Kindle editions of Marvel comics collections and graphic novels. The prices are $.80 to $4.00. In addition to that, they are offering a free trial month of Comixology Unlimited, which lets one read most of those works online. I snapped up a bunch of old favorites on the cheap and got a free comic as a bonus. Plus I signed up for Unlimited. Now I'm re-reading the original Secret Wars and reliving the thrill of The Wasp's hook-up with Magneto. Good times!

 I'll have to check that out.

I keep seeing mentions that FF may be returning to the comics: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/06/02/baby-steps-return-fantastic-four-comic-book/

I am sure they are coming back. I imagine Marvel Legacy is about Reed Richards recreating the Marvel universe to a status quo as close to the original 616 universe as possible or something like that, which would bring me back into Marvel Comics honestly. Right now Marvel Studios is my main source of Marvel goodness and I am also waiting for some great console games they are doing.

Now what this very likely return to comics means for the movie side, I don't know.

I don't know why people keep talking about legal action with regard to Fox. They have every right to keep making Fantastic Four movies. Marvel would be laughed out of court.

im in the exact same boat. I read no marvel titles right now.

Marvel Comics suck @ss to me right now. Based Feige is the only truth in giving me Classic Marvel feelings. Now bring the damn Four home.

Yeah, I don't read the comics now, either. They disgust me. I do love reading old school stuff, though. There's nothing like revisiting my favorite childhood adventures.

I'm 25 so I didn't experience the Silver Age stuff directly, but read many of those comics and they are just wonderful. As for modern comics I mostly remember Planet Hulk, Annihilation and Whedon's X-Men. Those were great reads.

I'm going to date myself by admitting that comics cost $.12 when I first started reading them. :yay: My allowance was a dollar a week back then, so my siblings and I would pool our resources to buy as many comic books and candy as we could collectively afford. Of course, candy cost a penny at the general store back then, so....

A few recent books have been great. The DnA run on GOTG was incredible. I loved the Marvel Adventures: Avengers and Pet Avengers comics because they're well-written and suitable to share with kids. Other than those and a few more, Marvel is utter bull**** right now. HYDRA Cap is one of the worst things ever to happen in the history of comics. I sometimes wish that Disney would step in and shut Marvel Comics down for the good of the brand.

The last truly great event/storyline from Marvel was 2015's Secret Wars planned to perfection by Jonathan Hickman...seeing Doom assume total control over all of reality and the effects of his rule was a sight to behold...it felt like the end of the Marvel Universe that started in 1961 with F4 and culminated with this...everything else since then has truly been hit and miss...I can only hope that F4 returns to comics with a creative team that "GETS IT."

Exactly, and for as much as i love dc too, i want to read marvel as well. Im hoping everything goes into classic form with legacy.

 With me it was always a decision between comic books and baseball cards. And me and a group of friends set up a sort of comic-book library. We'd lend someone 5 of our comic books and they'd lend 5 of theirs. We always knew we'd get them back because they'd want theirs back.

And thanks to your tip yesterday, I picked up all the Fantastic Four Masterworks on Kindle for 69 bucks. :woot:

I already had the forty-year collection on disc, but I like the Kindle format better - plus now I'll have all of those on my Kindle when I'm travelling.

I didn't even know they had anything on Kindle until you posted that yesterday. Thanks!

Another thank you about the sale. Just bought Avengers/Defenders War, Kree/Skrull War, Under Siege, 1602 and Ultimate Spider-Man: Ultimate Knights (an old favorite of mine.)

You're welcome! :yay:

There was an article on Yahoo that mentioned the sale, and as soon as I read it I knew that I had to share the news here. I figured that there might be fans who needed some Kindle editions to round out their collections. Kindle and Comixology are the best things to happen to comics, imo.

I have five siblings, so our collective comics buying power was enough to get everything we wanted. (All Marvel, of course! :cwink:) When I was a wee lass, my uncles gave me their old EC and Marvel Mystery Comics to read. Can you imagine those near priceless books, first stored in a cellar and then given to a three-year-old? I could have paid my college tuition with those books, had I not loved them to pieces as a young child.

:funny: Part of the reason the ones in good condition now are worth so much is people of our generation actually read them, traded them, cut Marvel Value Stamps out of them etc.

I've got all of mine in the attic, but they're so worn I doubt they're worth much.

But I do have the first appearance of Black Panther, first appearance of Inhumans, first appearance of Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock etc.

Uggh, don't remind me. My 70s era comics are very well read and likely not worth very much regardless. But it didn't help that I cut those valuable collectibles out of every issue and have no idea where I put them.

Did you buy X-Ray specs or some body building rubber band? LOL. My mother packed my mid-early 60s editions in plastic bags and they managed to keep dry over the years. I couldn't really afford as many comic books as I wanted, so I bought mine mostly used at a used bookstore on Alvarado near MacArthur Park in LA. Glad I did now. They were mostly in good shape. I have some of them posted on my website.

I had a subscription for a while, but back in those days, they folded them in half to mail them, so those are all worthless just because of that.

My friend bought the 7 foot tall Frankenstein expecting a bad-ass mannequin or something, and it was just a big, paper photo. :funny:

I have another hot tip for an item on Amazon that I know you'll be interested in:

https://www.amazon.com/Fantastic-Fo...UTF8&qid=1497276570&sr=8-1&keywords=Fant4stic

It's not on sale, and there's nothing special about this edition. But I know you can't resist a good FF bargain.

https://www.newsarama.com/34899-no-fantastic-four-in-the-mcu-says-feige.html

"[We have] no plans with the Fantastic Four right now," Feige told AlloCin in a Facebook video. "No discussions about it."

Well that sucks. But that article also said:

The pronouncement comes just days after a sequel to 20th Century Fox's ill-fated 2015 reboot attempt was originally scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017. Fox has never officially pulled plans for the sequel, but with that date having now come and gone - and Marvel's admission that they have no plans to pursue the property - the Fantastic Four's cinematic future looks uncertain at best.

Looks like we just missed that Fant4stic sequel that its defenders were sure would still happen.

Well, unless this is just his public answer, I guess we might just need to give up...it just blows my mind that despite all the plans they might have beyond Infinity War and its sequel, that they don't feel the urgency to want Doom/Galactus/Kang etc to add into the mythos cause they really don't have any mega hitters lined up after Thanos...this breaks my heart...the dreams of seeing Latveria fully realized with a comic book accurate Doom continue to be shot down and destroyed....:csad::csad:

:funny: I don't have speakers on my work computer, so I can't hear the actual interview, but I saw some comments on it in which Feige apparently says something like: 'We were able to work a deal with Sony and Spider-man because they respected the IP.'

Which would seem to imply he doesn't feel Fox respects the IP, and might further be interpreted to indicate he wouldn't work with them even if Fox wanted to.

But if somebody can actually listen to the audio, they can probably interpret his meaning more than I can based on hearsay.
