Well this:

Can probably be done without Marvel's permission. But if you're sure they're with Marvel, I would certainly be very interested in trying to deal for them if I were Fox.
I'm curious on Alpha Flight. Only 2 mutants in the original team, and one characters origin is tied to the Hulks (though changed later to be tied to Snowbirds).

They obviously appeared in X-Men first, but first appearances are not guarantees in where rights lie (Black Panther, Inhumans, Kang, Badoon, Ego etc).

I'd add that Easter Egg probably would pass without issue. It's an advert for a Canadian airline, rather than a clear name drop to the team itself. Pretty much the same thing as them using an obvious Helicarrier in DP1.

Alpha Flight member appeared in X-Men Origins too which coincidentally was DPs first live action venture too.

Yeah, it seems like the X-Men rights are difficult to decipher. Apparently they were given fairly broad rights to "mutants" as opposed to having specific characters locked down.

And that could make this interesting. If they already have a couple characters but don't have all the characters and don't have rights to the team, Marvel could say something like: "We'll give you the remaining characters you need for Alpha Flight along with the rights to make up to 5 films for up to 12 years with us making X% off those films (and the rights will revert at the end of either of those milestones). And you'll return all FF and related rights."

Which ones? The elderly Hudson's I remember but the name was all they shared with the actual characters.

Alpha Flight is most likely under FOX imo. Any non mutants they'd probably just make into mutants for the film.

I feel like Alpha Flight was always more closely connected to X-men. But from what I can tell the deal didn't go into specifics for all known characters (that would take forever and wouldn't account for future characters). I can see Fox having a good argument toward making a claim as does Marvel. They could go to court over it but lets be real, nether cares about Alpha Flight. Except for Marvel to use as leverage to have a trade of another character like the Ego situation.

As awesome as that would be, I
don't ever see that happening unless
something monumental happens that forces
FOX to revert the rights back to Marvel.

Alpha Flight was introduced in XMen comics and are XMen universe characters in my opinion but I really hope that besides Aurora and Northstar they aren't ever turned in to mutants for the sake ofi it.

Alpha Flight was also mentioned in X2 on Stryker's files, so it's probably a Fox thing.

Wonder where Excalibur shakes out though. The use of the team is probably with Fox, but Brian himself Feige mentioned as having rights to. Or maybe its shared like the Maximoffs?

Aren't most of the Alpha Flight members mutants? Wouldn't that make them under Fox's purview?

Not really, Northstar and Aurora are Mutants but the rest of the classic team are a mix of technological, scientific, mystical and even Alien. There was a new team in the late 90s that had more Mutants in it but thats about it.

However Fox may have a claim to some of them as part of other characters as they had their first appearance in the X-Men unless they are part of a specific Alpha Flight film rights package. Fox may also have a claim on some characters like the Hudsons due to their links to other characters such as Wolverine. And we even had a version of the Hudsons in X-Men: Origins, even if they were nothing like the comic versions. However Puck on the other hand is not a mutant and his first appearance was in the Alpha Flight comic series, not in X-Men, so Fox would not have a claim on him as far as I can see.

I read mostly Avengers and XMen comics as a little one but Alpha Flight was the first title I got serious about collecting and John Byrne was my favorite artist way back in the day.

And some of these details are what make it interesting. I'd be willing to bet neither Fox nor Marvel have the rights they would need to make an Alpha Flight film.

And that means the property has limited value to both parties, but a deal could create real value for Fox at no real cost to Marvel (since Marvel can't make a film anyway). And, in fact, it could add value to Marvel since they could take a cut of a Fox AF film, and without a deal, no film will happen.

So Fox has set six Marvel dates for 2019, 2020 and 2021. Any chance that those all could be X-Men/New Mutants/Deadpool related? Could one of those actually be the latest FF rights grab?

I fear the worst: Silver Surfer and Doom solos.
Yep, I think Fox is that stupid.
On the other hand, if it were Marvel Studios making them... :hmr:

Forward momentum on anything FF-related all but guarantees that they'll never get another penny out of me. Which won't be that hard considering that Deadpool 2 is the only Faux-Marvel film coming up that I'm even marginally interested in.

Its probably "complicated" like the Submariner was. "Complicated" is their favorite explanation for these confusing rights issues.

They don't even have me at Deadpool. Logan was the last Fox Marvel movie I was interested in. Leave on a high note I say.

I feel like a Fantastic Four reboot is a horrible idea. At the same time, I really don't want a Captain Britain movie at Marvel Studios. They need to trade these properties. Give Marvel the FF and Fox gets Captain Britain so they can do Excalibur.

We’ll also likely see Fantastic Four come back in some form, because in order to keep its license and prevent the characters from reverting to Marvel Studios, Fox has to make some sort of Fantastic Four movie relatively soon.

I like that they're planning out this far already.

At this point, the taste of that Fant4stic turd is still in everybody's mouth, so it would be crazy to be thinking about another FF film already, but if they aren't thinking of making one in here somewhere, they will lose the rights.

My bet is that FF isn't on this list of films and Fox is focusing on other characters.

Oh I'd bet one of them, probably the last, is meant to be another FF reboot or at least give the impression they will do one.

But we have seen this 'sabre rattling' before from Fox. Fant4stic sequel got named with a date prior to its release. Gambit was another one.
