The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - Part 13

And a crisis for democracy. That's a really scary thought. RIP Fairness Doctrine.

Sorry - as much as I'd love to see Johnny Storm pal around with Peter Parker and Hulk battle the Thing, I got a bad feeling about this. Nope. Not a fan.

Fox have also been trying buy Sky News which would be horrendous.

Funnily enough, the reason I think other companies, especially the AAA, and especially Amazon, is are not being aggressive in purchasing Fox is because of the tied up rights they have with Disney. Can't do XMen tv shows without the mouse, can't do FF TV shows without the mouse, have to pay the mouse for every single theatrical movie, if they don't release the movie theatrically they lose the rights, they are losing 5/6 Star Wars distribution rights in 2 1/2 years, can't do deadpool tv shows, can't have Avatar in any theme park worldwide. Fox's best movie/tv shows franchises are tied up with Disney with a few notable exceptions.

When the Disney-Marvel deal was announced there were reports that Iger (and others) had kicked the tires on a purchase before but had been turned off by the convoluted rights situation (including the Spidey movie rights being sold to multiple studios). It would be interesting if the messy Star Wars, Avatar and Marvel rights actually helps the Mouse close on the FOX deal.

The rights to X-Men and F4 and all the strange stipulations involved mean that it would be a hell of a lot more straightforward selling to Disney. Imagine an exec from an outsider company having to filter out which fringe characters they can use or name drop in a given situation.

Still rooting for Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes, so we can get a Hannibal reunion out of it when the let Mad Mikkelsen play Doom.

He was already in Dr Strange as the main villain Kaecillus.

Then they could get Julian McMahon again. :o :oldrazz:
Oh, we'd just would have to have a blast from the past, now won't we? :o

How funny would it be to have Chris Evans' Captain America and Human Torch in a scene together?

Bottom line - If Fox wants to realign their business, they're going to do it. Maybe Disney will end up with the FF and X-Men as a result of that, or maybe Universal will end up with the FF and X-Men.

All I care about is that I hope, in the coming months, Disney has the agreements in place to get the rights we've been hoping they'd get for the past 8 years.

We need a scene with Chris Evans's Captain America and Michael B Jordan's Erik Killmonger together.

But we get plenty of blasts from the past anyway. Evans and ScarJo have played in lots of movie together.

Elizabeth Olsen and Ashley-Taylor Johnson were husband and wife in Godzilla before they were brother and sister in Age of Ultron.

And Olsen and Renner are in a movie together this year.

Then there's RDJ and Ruffalo from Zodiac.

And Evans was in Playing it Cool with Mackie and Ioan Gruffudd as well.

This part I don't see happening. Universal (and by extension Comcast) are more interested in investing in properties they can control with no strings attached. That was part of their logic when they purchased DreamWorks Animation for example. They were able to integrate them not just in their film slate, but also their theme parks as well. Comcast is investing a considerable amount of money in the parks, especially with them purchasing over 500 acres near their main park in Orlando to better compete with Walt Disney World (and IMO they are only getting started). They are scaling up considerably on that front. What would not make sense is to try to acquire properties to use that would be problematic to whatever this massive project turns out to be. Granted they already have Marvel at Islands of Adventure, but they can't use those properties elsewhere without Disney signing off on it, which isn't going to happen now. I think Viacom is going to be a more direct target for them in the future since they have several properties that are better fits for them. (notwithstanding the debate of industry consolidation)

In fact, I am of the opinion that, armed with several of the properties from Fox, Disney and Universal will be able to come to some sort of arrangement for the Marvel theme park rights.

All I care about is that I hope, in the coming months, Disney has the agreements in place to get the rights we've been hoping they'd get for the past 8 years.
Something is going to go down. There is just too many outlets speaking to the matter and agreeing to deal. Read this article the other day.

It's getting to the point that a deal is almost as predicable as sunrise.

THAT is what I'm talking about. :jd:

Deadpool can literally just pop up anywhere and at anytime in the MCU, and it would just work. Because Deadpool. Fans and movie goers would love it. Marketed correctly, you'd know it was coming but the exact scene where it would happen would be the surprise.

I can imagine Universal buying everything up and then letting Marvel use the rights for a fee. Which in theory would be much better than what we have now, but the problem is, if the fee makes things too difficult, the FF and X-Men could have limited roles - like what we see with the Hulk now.

But I also think that even if Disney doesn't buy the whole thing, they'll try to lock up Star War, Avatar and FF/X-Men before Fox starts shopping around the rest.

I want this:

The few minutes of Dr. Strange at the beginning of Ragnarok weren't really necessary for the story, but it's fun to have those characters interacting and it ties everything together.

I always loved the team-ups in the comics because it was fun to throw different personalities together. I'm hoping Marvel continues to give us different character mixes, and having the X-Men and Fantastic Four would give them endless possibilities.

Mixing and matching different characters keeps things fresh. Thor with Hulk has a completely different feel and dynamic than Thor with Captain America, so as long as they continue to do these characters right and shuffle things around, I don't think it will ever get old.

Huh .. did I missed some news about Universal buying Fox?

No. Disney has had talks to buy Fox's movie & tv. No further news yet but analysts are all over the possibility.

Universal, or anyone else atm, have not been connected yet.

Cap: Have we met before? You look familiar.

There were so many parts of Thor: Ragnarok that I enjoyed. The Dr. Strange stuff was a very nice touch to also showcase how his skills have improved since the film as well.

That's the overall power of the MCU. To have people cross paths and have a never ending source of situations. Even the Ant-Man/Falcon scene I thought was great, even if it was completely unneeded.

I agree, but wouldn't say AM/Falcon was unneeded. When CA:CW rolled around, it allowed for a graceful AM entrance. As far as the DS scene (Do NOT read this if you haven't seen Ragnarok),
Thor was taking Loki and leaving earth. The destruction of Asgard sort of changes that and I suspect that will have implications for the future.

Yup...
Strange only intervened with Thor because he detected Loki's presence on Earth, and he kept Loki in a freefall trap until he was ready to send them both on their way. Loki also tries to attack Strange before being shunted off to Norway with Thor.

Stands to reason Strange might well run into Loki in Infinity War, assuming he returns to Earth, and the 2 might have a bit of a mystic duel. Strange should kick his @ss.

That DS scene was sooooo something that would happen in the comics

I'm not so sure about that

I mean, Loki was able to take out the GD All Father all by his lonesome. Admittedly the old man was not at his peak, but still that's an impressive feat. Add in Loki's ruthlessness and I would say it is too close to call.

I HAVE BEEN FALLING FOR 30 MINUTES! This joke made me laugh my butt off. I would Taika do a Doctor Strange movie now. That would be fantastic.
