The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - Part 13

Spider-Man is the face of Marvel - period.

But Dr. Doom is almost as iconic. I mean he was the inspiration for Darth Vader - one of the biggest pop culture icons there is.

Pre-CBM era, I would have ranked Doom up there, along with Hulk, Wolverine, the Thing, and probably Captain America as quintessential symbols of the Marvel brand. Characters like Iron Man, Thor, etc. have only become more popular in recent years - thanks to the films.
The present unfamiliarity of Dr Doom can also be chocked up to Fox's excruciating mismanagement of that character as well. There was so much potential with him yet Fox simply kept finding ways to screw him up.

Not to mention lack of cartoons and toys to market him.
He has appeared in Marvel's Avengers more recently. Though, part of the lack of anything can likely be attributed to the Perlmutter effect.

A few years ago something like this seemed so far away. The MCU could really move onto another level when it has the rights back to all ot most of its properties.

We're almost there guys, could happen by the end of the month

I'm still not getting excited... but the idea that something could happen within the next 4 weeks is a cool new development.

I had settled in with the idea "Yeah, something could happen, but it's likely to be several months minimum."

I been wanting this so bad.............its a shame that the first major MCU arc is almost over before we got a proper face-off of this guy with the current heroes.

True, but in addition to the Four you can also put him against Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and even the X-Men if you wanted to.

I said I wanted the next Avengers film to be a lot smaller in scale. Doom would be perfect for that

No doubt......but tell me that deep down you wouldn't have loved to see this guy face off with Tony Cap Thor Nick Natasha Clint Bruce. I don't know what the future holds in regards to those characters but I get the feeling some of them if not all of them won't be around. And I know Marvel will knock the Doom casting out the park.

It's good that we're getting a steady stream of updates. I mean, I would also see it as a positive indicator (maybe even more so) if Disney and Fox stayed tight-lipped about the deal (to be fair, though, neither has made a statement themselves, I believe), but this is definitely propitious as well.

It can turn into a celebration/party time thread instead. ;)

The thought is very exciting, but don't count your chickens before they are hatched.

As I said years ago, I imagine the moment like Return of the Jedi after defeating the Empire

Iger is the best closer in the industry, he'll get this done. Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox is next.

I don't know. I can't perhaps see these characters (Iron Man, Cap, and Hulk) headlining movies for too much longer (especially their own), but I could still see them having some smaller roles in team up movies moving forward. I mean the character development has already been done for these characters, so I can see Iron Man always shown in his suit (just like Tony was trying to convince Pepper he was in the suit in Iron Man 3) and Hulk to always remain as Hulk (this already happened for like 2 years according to info in Ragnarok), so just make it permanent, and Captain America with a mask always on perhaps they can find another actor that looks close enough to Chris Evans that with half his face covered would make it believable he is still with us. Again I am not suggesting them for larger roles, but I think it would be nice to feel like they are still around by integrating them here and there in other characters movies or team up movies. I still hope RDJ though will stick around for Iron Man 4 and get that Mandarin story done justice. As well as a Captain America 4 the return of the Red Skull. Then a Thor 4 introducing Hercules and the Olympians. After that like I said I could see most of these characters only showing up in group battles and not focused on enough to require the actor to be shown on screen. For example if they do a Secret Wars say in Phase 6 it would be unfortunate to not have these characters be part of the battle, but I doubt RDJ, and Evans are going to want to continue their role that long. However, with that many characters in the movie and it being set on another planet, you could definitely make them appear always in costume without it seeing awkward. At least that is my opinion.

Great track record. If anyone can get this done he can.
