Just give Tom Hardy a set of adamantium claws and he'll do Logan justice.

Is Tom Hardy giving informed consent, Colonel Stryker? That operation is very painful and is known to have side effects on the immune system.

I loved Jackman's take for years, but to say no one can ever match or surpass it is a fallacy.
No, I think trying to match Hugh Jackman is an even BIGGER fallacy. If Marvel expects to beat Hugh then then they're inevitably going to be disappointed. Hugh ( played the character for 9 movies and Logan set the the bar high). If Marvel wants people to like their new Wolverine then they have to differentiate it from Fox's. They need to make the new one stand on its own instead of trying to compete with one the best superhero portrayals of all time. If they make the MCU version new and fresh than there will be less pressure for everyone involved. Trying to dethrone Hugh is like trying to dethrone Heath Ledger, it's just not worth the hassle. Not everything is a competition like seriously we can like both for their own unique portrayals, but that's just my opinion.

Peyton Reed has given his FF pitch to Feige - presumably the 60s era version that was rejected for Story's less costly take.

Ha, that's interesting. I wonder if they'd delay FF as the replacement for the Ant-Man trilogy or hand off the threequel to another director?
They'd have to think carefully about Reed being in college in the 1950s, because Doom HAS to be a present-day villain.

Just getting a great actor and putting him in the comic suit and MCU will be enough to create a dramatic difference.

Due to his vast wealth, life sustaining armor and mastery of his dark arts, Doom is timeless. 30-something Victor could be tormenting the FF in the 60s and still be a threat well into his 90s.

Yeah, makes sense.

Doom has a time machine.
I’ve seen rumors that there is time travel in the next Avengers. It would be great if they could slip in a reference to Doom’s time-machine and maybe even use it with the details of where Doom is left open until a later film.

As for Wolverine, introduce him with a fight with the Hulk. Nobody will be thinking about Jackman after that.

Wolverine vs Hulk vs Wendigo. That is the fight we should see.

But why would they be after the Hulk now when he seems to have more control over the monster?

Unless it's Wolverine who is after Wendigo, and Hulk just gets in the way.

Yeah. Seems like a clever way. Or maybe Hulk is after Wendingo and he comes in the way of Wolverine, who is still Weapon X, and just escaped.

We've been down this road before on other CBM franchises or things like Bond. It's inevitable at first, but eventually people get over it. If it's bad people will cling to Jackman like religion. If it's good/great in it's own right people will move on and embrace it. Hugh will not be forgotten, nor will a new interpretation be rejected if nails key elements and adapts comic lore not seen before. History tells us so.

Except me.

Me too. Seriously, no one will be comparing his performance to Jackman's when he's sitting around doing dialogue scenes if his stunt double fights the Hulk first?

Seriously? Neither of you are going to be able to watch a new different Wolverine without comparing to Jackman?

Sounds crazy to me, but that's your problem. Personally I can't wait to see a new thrashing, snarling Wolverine taking on real opponents.

Put Wolverine in his yellow tiger-striped costume with the mask and that will immediately differentiate him from what has gone before.

But I'm not sure how they would do the actual comic claws. I think Bryan Singer had the right idea of it coming out of his knuckles. If it comes out the top of his hands, then where does he store it?

He doesn't even have to be as good as Jackman to be financially successful. Roger Moore was worse than Sean Connery and general audiences accepted him. This is what I hope Feige still understands about Tony Stark when even actors like Chris Evans are saying he can never, ever be recast.

I agree.

Even though I personally love Roger Moore, I hope the more apt comparison in regards to new Wolvie is Daniel Craig.

These are not mutually exclusive. I'm looking forward to the new one, and of course I'm going to compare his acting to Jackman's.
A couple of you are saying he'll be so different if his stunt double wears the comic book mask, but That's a matter of directing. I want to see how a new actor performs in dialogue scenes.

I want a Roger Moore Wolverine. He can raise one eyebrow, make some British school boy jokes, come across as a dandy English gentleman, play Wolverine well into his 60s and have stunt doubles for scenes of him even running. Wolverine should be snow boarding to California Girls by the Beach Boys.

Change California Girls to Good Vibrations and I'm sold, more subtext

Interesting indeed. If Comcast succeeds in getting the 61% of Sky, then it sounds like the door may be open to getting ALL of the Marvel rights back from Universal. Granted, it is going to take a lot more than those rights to get Disney to give up the 39% it will likely be getting. Perhaps Comcast's share of Hulu as well as $$$.

Which is what we alluded to before. It's a possibility, but Comcast would have to cough up the dough + Hulu 30%. The Marvel rights CMCSA owns would just be icing on the cake.

His claws come out from between his knuckles in the comics and in film. When retracted they are housed in his wrists.

It's true the original idea when he was created was that they came out from those little metal casings in-between his knuckles on the gloves, but that got ret-conned early on.

Fun fact: originally he was described as having an entirely adamantium skeleton, but they changed that to his bones being laced with the metal when a reader wrote in and pointed out how vital bone marrow actually is. The claws being a natural part of him was a later ret-con. Early descriptions mentioned bionic implants controlling how they extended/retracted at will.

Whenever a popular character is recast there is inevitable comparisons to whoever came before. Since Hollywood started investing seriously in CBMs we have had 3 Supermen, 5 Batmen, 3 Spider-Men, and 3 Hulks.

While most I'd think consider Reeve the best Superman and Rufalo's the best Hulk there's more debate to be had on the others.

Hulk vs. Wolverine. Hulk vs. Thing. MCU Fantastic Four. :ilv:

The Foxverse will be a memory soon. I get the nostalgia for it, but at least Fox had its chance.
