The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 21

Still in disbelief at the one-two punch of bad news today. Hopefully some of you know what I'm talking about.

The question I'll pose is this: is the writing already on the wall for Marvel Studios' first failure with this? Or will they be able to course correct? Or- and I do hope this isn't the conclusion they come to- should GOTG3 be cancelled to avoid the potential risk of damaging the brand?
They'll recover. This isn't the first time Marvel has lost the major mind behind a film. They went through something similar with Ant-Man and that turned out ok.

Please don't flame me.

Disney HAD to fire Gunn. Reluctantly I hope.

This comes at the most sensitive time for Disney. They have to keep their image as clean as possible. Look at how quickly they fire Roseanne. They simply cannot allow anything to damage their reputation and harm the Fox deal.

If this happened after the Fox deal, they wouldn't have fired Gunn.

Social media is a great place to voice out opinions. But I think dark thoughts are better kept to yourself.

For a publicly known individual, social media can quickly be turned into a weapon against you. If I were Gunn, I would have cleanse my account years ago.

I do think his comments are real disgusting. I have been a follower of his account since the first GOTG. Love the guy but I applaud Disney for doing it right. It's Fox or Gunn, not both. A sacrifice had to be made.

All of that is possible. They'll likely course correct and then quickly put the film behind them. Feige always has back-up plans, so he's probably reshuffling the MCU deck as we speak.

Time to put Fantastic Four in there.

I already said a similar thing on the previous page about how Disney probably needed to do this otherwise Gunn could've brought them down at this time.

Haha I didn't read anything. I flipped to the last page to voice out my opinions.

Regardless of whether the deal was done or not, they absolutely would have fired him, and they would have been correct to do so.

You have to bear in mind that most of the articles are only posting samplings on some of the things he was talking about. Some of it was pretty damn vile. Also consider the volume of what he was posting. We're not talking about one or even a handful of bad tweets. We're talking hundreds, with thousands more being deleted.

God, if the standard of firing a director is the same as firing a president...

Yup. We may see the FF sooner then we think.
This is my wish though I suspect they will just find a replacement-- Guardians is a proven money-maker while FF is a failed franchise. Don't think Marvel will be in any rush to do a FF film even if there is a possibility of the third Guardians being shelved or delayed.

I really don't want to go down the political rabbit hole, and it's probably a good idea to keep this thread clear of politics in general.

Fact remains, Disney is entering a period where its brand is its most important asset. Deal or no deal. Gunn made himself a liability. Nobody else. He did it to himself.

In the wrong hands, yes. In Feige's hands, there is a ridiculous amount of potential.

Favreau didn't return for Iron Man 3 and Patty Jenkins walked out after already starting Thor: TDW. No way is this getting shelved.

Interesting days ahead.

Not the first time a director left and won't be the last. It recently happened with Fox too with Deadpool and that turned out fine. The MCU is a producer driven franchise and they have a great track record. Until Feige leaves or they make a string of flops, I wouldn't worry much.

The fact that Horn made the announcement rather than Feige is a tad disconcerting. I can't recall Alan doing that for any prior MCU personnel decision. With Feige's contract up next year I would hate for this to cause a rift.

This video does not have any profanity or violence but it does show an overview of some of Gunn's provocative tweets that may be too perturbing for the feint of hearts so I decided it would be irresponsible for me to not spoiler tag it.

Just caught up with the news and I don't pay too much attention to a lot of the gossipy stuff so I had no idea Gunn had done all that in the past. All I can say on that is he should have known better. A lot better.

As for Disney firing him now rather than when it surfaced before, I think between the revelations of Weinstein's sins and the high profile firing by Disney of Roseanne recently for her Twitter stupidity, they were caught between a rock and hard place. Keeping him on now with it all resurfacing would have been a PR nightmare.

Without knowing more about it all I can't say anything else atm.

Feige's a smart guy. I really hope he realizes they didn't have much choice.

Horn is the top dog for all of Disney's film products. Only Iger is above him. You have to read between the lines at everything else that has been going on Twitter, especially with Lucasfilm personnel. This was him and Iger sending a warning to the staff and using Gunn as an example. Subtle, yet not so much.

Avengers 3 and 4 had the Russo brothers. Volume 3 doesn't necessarily need Gunn. The question is whether they'll use his script or completely toss it out on principle.

This was initially my concern as well, but then I realized that Horn and Iger entrusted him completely with the MCU after his rift with Ike's cabal and the opportunity he will soon have with the X-Men and FF in the future. I think whatever anger he has regarding Gunn's firing (and Gunn's poor self-awareness) will soon give way to these facts.

After the whole Rosanne situation, had they not acted on this they most certainly would have drawn a considerable amount of bad press to themselves, and at this juncture they really, really don't need that. In each situation, they made the correct move. Even putting the Fox deal aside for a moment, they are starting on a monumental transition and literally the last thing they need right now is to alienate anyone. Not acting would have been potentially fiscally disastrous.

I don't think Feige is going to have any hard feelings toward Horn or Iger. Gunn did this to himself, and Feige absolutely probably realizes that the brand must be protected. He's a professional. He knows and understands the risks involved in working in Hollywood.

I honestly couldn't even finish reading all those tweets but I got through most of them. I don't blame Disney at all.

Gunn is a friggin sicko and he needs help. That tweet about a 3 year old and the shower was beyond disgusting.

We all love comics and superhero movies kids, but I draw the line at racism, rape and pedophilia.
