When you think about it, Feige may be the most impactful producer since the studio system, where you had true greats like Thalberg and Selznick.

Don’t ever compare him to those legends. Their movies won Oscars. The MCU has none. Hell, the DCEU has 1 Oscar and Wonder Woman was the closest superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture since The Dark Knight.

I woudn't be surprised if Feige wins a Thalberg one day. Agree or disagree, like or dislike his accomplishments, the fact remains he's made a major impact in hollywood the last decade. Studios are attempting to copy what he did but without the same results. It works for what Marvel is doing.

And what does Wonder Women or Harley Quinn's make-up have to do with Feige's incredible success? Comparing his body of work to an outlier and prosthetics and lipstick means nothing.

Hang around a CBM forum all day and then get outraged someone has the gall to consider them art. LOL.
Quit slumming.

Feige has definitely been the most influential producer of the last decade. Every other studio wants what he created, but none of them seems to have a clue how to copy his blueprint.

How can you possibly know how close WW came to being nominated for Best Picture? It's a secret ballet. There were ten potential nominations, but only nine films made the cut. If WW was thatclose why didn't it get that tenth nod?

It did get a nomination at the Producer’s Guild of America. Those usually are a ticket to a BP nom. It just wasn’t lucky enough.

The whole Gunn situation is just the universe using equivalent exchange for the Comcast situation.

Luck? It’s a ballot - just pure numbers.

Can you imagine if Feige does quit Marvel/Disney over this and his replacement is Simon Kinberg?

Careful, you're gonna get Willie's blood boiling. :funny:

Or Scott Buck, Fiege's protege. :o

Willie Lumpkin will be celebrating for such an Inhuman choice! :oldrazz:

I see you guys talking about the Gunn situation affecting the deal. Say it ain't so, so I can go back to relaxing.

As a major media conglomerate, Disney cannot be perceived as having anyone in its employ who espouses repugnant views. It can't allow itself to be seen by the public as tolerating such speech, and as such, it had to terminate both individuals. It is striking that in both cases, there was evidence that existed before they were hired, yet it was either ignored or overlooked. A lot of trouble would have been saved had these things been discovered and dealt with years ago.

It will be interesting to see whether that fact becomes an issue for Disney now.

It will have zero effect on the deal. The Gunn debacle is tame compared to the scandals that Fox had under its belt. It’s highly unlikely the Fox shareholders are going to vote against the Disney deal come this coming Friday just because they’re disgusted at the antics of a director that Disney now formerly had under their employ.

I mean for pete sakes Fox still had Singer direct Apocalypse despite the allegations against him surfacing around DOFP’s release. Granted, this was pre-Me Too but still...

Singer would be doing the Harvey Weinstein perp walk if those allegations surfaced today. Hollywood is full of people who would be in jail if they were anywhere else (except in politics).

A couple of years ago, the director of the Jeepers Creepers trilogy, a convicted and admitted pedophile, had a warning issued to child actors by Canadian authorities who were concerned he might prey on his young cast. He served jail time for raping a preteen actor in the '90s, and his victim protested the production of Jeepers Creepers 3. That caused nary a blip on the radar in Hollywood. His movie was financed and released without the sort of major scandal one would rightly expect. It's disgusting, but hey, Woody Allen and Roman Polanski are still revered despite child rape accusations and a conviction in Polanski's case.

Yeah, people have to keep in mind that James Gunn only tweeted, but he did not commit any crimes. Polanski, on the other hand, was convicted of raping a child, but after he escaped to another country to avoid jail he was still able to find work, and even won an Oscar. No matter what terrible the tweets are, they are not actual criminal acts.

Neither were Roseanne's tweets, is what you have to remember.

I think both Rosanne Barr and James Gunn should be fired, but their tweets shouldn't be treated as crimes.

Right. Gunn made 10,000 (!) tweets about pedophilia between 2007 and 2013. That's protected speech, and anything suspiciously close to an admission of being an active pedophile could be investigated by police with standard presumption of innocence. No crime here.

IMO after Gunn's firing the Gunn-fan and/or MCU-hater critics will give bad reviewes to MCU movies.

Roseanne's tweets were made while under the employ of The Walt Disney Company. As far as we know Gunn's "jokes" took place before he signed his contract.

I hate the idea of anyone losing their job for stupid stuff they said - not did - before they were hired. If Gunn were hired last week and then let go yesterday, I could understand it. But he's been (from what we know) a good soldier for six years. That should count for more than offensive tweets from before his time at the company.

This is a bad precedent for the Mouse, and I wonder if they are going to be consistent for all their employees and contractors. And until we hear from Feige I am going to be concerned.

If the police department believes that James Gunn should be investigated, they will do so already; they don't need the permission from Disney or anybody else. The fact that they don't means those tweets are not grounds for investigation.

Feige will weather this little storm. I just hope he hasn't done anything stupid or is doing anything stupid that will tamper his future, but he seems like good people. When you look at Gunn he even looks like a weirdo.

But in other news, hope Disney does go for broke and retain all the Spidey rights from that vampire Amy Pascal next.

Just saw a interview about the Venom movie with the director on IGN. That man has no kind of conviction in his explanation of how this movie works without Spider-Man and his understanding of the symbiote itself.

I think Disney has their hands tied re: James Gunn. If they don't fire him, it will create a firestorm that will dominate the headline, and since next week is the meeting for the stockholders to cast their vote for Disney-Fox purchase, it will become a huge distraction. They have to do it and do it quickly. And whether it will have any influence in the future is still up for debate, but I just don't see a way out for Disney that doesn't involved firing Gunn.

I'm not so sure. I think a statement from Horn & Feige would have taken ( most of) the heat off:

"We're very disappointed in offensive statements made by James Gunn before he was under the employee of The Walt Disney Company. We have worked closely with Mr. Gunn for six years and believe that those statements do not reflect the person he is today. We will continue to monitor the situation and will be implementing social media training for all our employees and contractors in the coming months."
