The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 23

I’m starting to think this way as well. Netflix/ABC shows connect to the movies, the movies don’t connect to the shows. I can easily see a defenders movie down the line when these actors are done with their shows.

Only if it's the same actors, otherwise you are breaking the established rules of the fictional universe that everything is connected.

Not guaranteed. If Venom bombs, Sony may also look at it like "we need Spider-Man back with us, these films without him aren't going to work."

And Marvel Studios will ask Disney for money and give Sony billions to get the full rights to Spider-Man back.

Now that the Jumanji franchise has taken off Sony don't need Spider-Man anymore anyway.

Now that Disney bought Fox and managed to outbid Comcast, how will Disney manage to get Comcast to offer up the Hulk, Namor and theme park rights?

Comcast want Sky. They can win 61% of that, but Disney will have the remaining 39% once the merger is closed.

If Disney sell Comcast thier stake in Sky (something Comcast would want) they could wrangle those outstanding rights into a deal then.

Hopefully Feige will give us some answers around the xmen and f4 next summer during the avengers 4 press tour. He should be able to speak on it by then.

Who came up with "It's all connected", anyway? Was it Feige? If it was someone like Perlmutter, can we agree to stop calling this a rule of the universe?

I think it was Jeph Loeb who said that. Until Perlmutter is no longer in Marvel, the connections will be difficult to make though.

It could all work out very neatly with everyone getting what they want and what is most suited to them.

Yeah but me thinks Disney/Fox still wants Sky and I kind of expect them to bid again for it soon (now that the shareholder vote is done). Though Roberts isn’t going to lose out to Disney a second time.

Disney bidding just to make comcast pay more for Sky could back fire. If they bid too much they could win and end up paying twice as much for Sky.which could cripple Disney financially for the next 3-5 years which could be part of Roberts plan. It could make them more open to a hostile takeover bid. So in the end Comcast could get Disney Sky and Fox. But thats a nightmare scenario. Im sure Disney wont bid on Sky unless theyre sure they can afford it.

Somebody mentioned that Sony wants to buy an asset of which Disney owns 50%, and that Disney could use that to get Spider-Man completely back.

Endemol. It sounds like a Pharmaceutical company but it's actually a media company.

Its obvious when Disney bought Fox theyll adopt whatever contacts are in place which means they are coming home. We know that the F4 contract says Fox had to make one every 7 years was it? Expect F4 no later than 2020/21 to meet that contract so Disney will keep that contract.

This is confusing to me. If Disney/Marvel doesn't make a FF movie by 2022, to whom do the rights revert?

5 of the top 10 highest-grossing movies in the world this year are superhero movies :funny:.

Once the deal is closed any existing contracts with Fox can be torn up, burned, and the fire put out by Josh Trank's dog pissing on it.

Thats a bit of a grey area and well need to wait for someone like Feige to clarify some details. Would the rights revert to constantin or marvel? Or does disney buying fox mean they acquire Constantin? Or did Fox get the full rights back wthout us noticing? They seemed to be able to start development on a dr doom movie without trouble. So who knows. We have no reason not to take disney and Iger at their word when they said F4 is coming home.

It came from the press release last December and from Bob Iger. They would have double and tripple checked before announcing it.

More likely id assume that Disney has acquired Constantin.

Just another sidebar question:

After this merger does this mean Disney owns the rights to 'Gotham'?

Ok...
Constantin have been a passenger in this deal since around 1995 when they, with Marvel's agreement, signed over full control to Fox, as they clearly could not make an FF film remotely worthy of a theatrical release at that time.

In 1999 it was Fox, NOT Constantin, who got an extension as Fox had been dragging their heels and the reversion deadline was looming (this is why the rights did not revert although there was 12 years between the Constantin Corman effort and Fox's Story flick).

The only thing Constantin kept was a co-producer credit and distribution rights in Germany and I think Austria. Fox financed and controlled the films in full. If Fox had let deadline run out the rights would have reverted back to Marvel and Constantin couldn't have done a damn thing about it.

So now with Marvel buying that Fox contract, the FF rights will be home. It is possible Constantin might still have a claim for an 'in association with' credit under the terms agreed with Fox & Marvel back in the 90's, and maybe limited European distribution rights as before (although the latter might have been more of a courtesy than a legal requirement). If that is the case Disney can either let them keep that token gesture, cut them a check to piss off, or if they saw fit simply wait until the deadline runs out in 2022 and be done with them for good.

Whatever happens, the deals closes, the FF are home.

Imagine that thought after Batman and Robin.
