Venom bombing is the only way to guarantee Spidey stays home

And by doing that Sony execs would prove that they're morons with the memory of a dead goldfish since TASM 2 had Spider-Man in it and yet it still underperformed at the BO, in addition to being a critical flop.

Not guaranteed. If Venom bombs, Sony may also look at it like "we need Spider-Man back with us, these films without him aren't going to work."
The opposite should happen, they will realize that without the MCU - Spider-Man will not work

You guys keep thinking it's only about Sony. As was mentioned before Disney has no incentive to resign this deal unless Sony makes more concessions and loosens their grip on the license.

:funny:

Who are buying into it? FFINO defenders? Foxmen?

The people buying the Constantin fable are typical low-information fanbois. In other words, they're fans who get all of their news and analysis from the "journalists" at cbm. They actually seem to know less about the rights situation than non-fans do.

Man, Bob Iger is going have egg on his face! His company releases multiple statements welcoming the FF into the fold. But the rights were NEVER Fox's to sell! The fool forgot to consider CONSTANTIN!

Try reading the contracts next time, Bobby!

Not only that, but Iger also forgot that Deadpool's rights are tied up with Artisan Entertainment and New Line, according to the geniuses commenting over there. Is he ever gonna be shocked when that mess unravels! We all know that neither he nor Feige are authorities where the rights are concerned. And won't we look silly when it turns out that all of our hopes are unfounded and the rights to the FF and X-Men are still with another studio that no longer exists?

I think he signed a contract for six films. Sony can do what they want after the next one.

But Spider-Man has only five MCU appearances slated thus far: CW, Homecoming, IW, A4 and FFH. That leaves one more solo to complete the six film commitment (Home Again, Home Again?). Right?

I was thinking the same thing, but assuming I was just missing one.:o

I'm of the opinion that Disney will somehow prise Spider-Man from Sony's grasp in the next five years. Sony's execs and investors have made noises about selling or spinning off SPE for the last few years because it underperforms and is a drain on the parent company's already stretched finances. There have been very few hits for the studio, certainly not enough to buoy it after years of falling box office revenue. This has left Sony/SPE desperate for money but with few prospects of earning it at the box office.

The (potential) failure of Sony's upcoming slate of films (including Venom) might be enough to push the studio to sell Spidey's rights to Disney for whatever cash it can get. Unlike Fox, Sony really doesn't have the back catalog of films or other assets that would make it a ripe target for acquisition. Selling Spidey to Disney, the way it sold the merchandising rights in 2011 and then holding a fire sale for the rest of the studio's films and TV shows, might be the only way Sony can get substantial cash for SPE .

Tom Holland has a six movie contract but the actual deal between Disney and Sony is only for 5 movies. I can't find the original article that stated this but this article from Collider from references it.
http://collider.com/spider-man-marvel-sony-deal-explained/#mcu

So what does Marvel Studios get in return out of this deal? Besides getting to play with a toy they’ve been eyeing for a very long time now, they get to use Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in a set number of MCU movies (five in total, per this initial agreement, including Homecoming and its sequel).

So after Far From Home, Sony and Disney are going to need to renegotiate a new deal.

I bet Iger has a buyer's regret now, after he found out about this. The 71 billion bid for Fox turns out to be a farce! :cwink:

since Sony has no other successful franchises at the moment except for Spidey and arguably Jumanji, I could see Disney not offering money for the Spidey rights but instead some of the franchises purchased in the Fox deal, that don't fit their family friendly image

Arguably? They released it as counter-programming to Star Wars and it made a billion to Last Jedi's $1.3 billion.

Yep, Jumanji was a huge hit for Sony. They also have Men In Black, which could go either way with the new one.

Here's a random thought: What if Reed Richards was one of the people who was wiped out after the snap and after he comes back when everything is fixed in avengers 4 it makes him much more motivated to get a space program started to traverse the cosmos? That could serve as part of Reed's motivation to steal the spaceship because he notices leftover Infinity Stone radiation(replacing the 616 cosmic rays) on a microscope wants to go out and harness it or something but before he could do that the government decides to cut the funding for the space program. Reed is haunted by the devastating incident that wiped out half of humanity so much hes obsessed with getting access to the Infinity Stone energy leftover in space.

That's how I'd do it. 30-something famous scientist Reed (actor could go as old as Osaac Isaac if that's socially acceptable with Sue), Jake Johnson as Benjamin Grimm, an Air Force or Navy veteran who always wanted to be an astronaut, and Sue Storm as a young grad student. Johnny doesn't make much sense though.

You should invite those people from CBM over here into this thread. What happens when fanboys who nothing about the rights meet those who have spent years thinking about the rights?

And why doesn't DigificWriter tweet Iger to put him in his place about what he thinks he's getting in this Disney-Fox deal? What a shock that will be when he realises that nothing's coming home! :o

That could work. Johnny could sneak on board like Peter did in Infinity War.

And people are influenced by the media a lot. Why not use the media to show that it can be socially acceptable to have a large age gap? You can't always choose whom you'll most connect with/ be attracted to.

Dunno if marvel are planning on the general population remebering dying. Battle of new york is one thing, but that's more like a 9/11 the majority of people just get on with their lives afterwards. Half the population being dead? Children, wives, yourself? That is on a total different level that might be very interesting to investigate but i'm not sure marvel would want to go there. Easier to just return things to where they were with only a few people knowing the truth.

Great idea though.

Henry Pym did his best scientific work in the '80s
Tony Stark did his best in 2008-10s.
Wakanda reveals at the U.N. that their citizens have access to superscience.
Reed Richards invents stuff in the 2020s.
Are they ever going to admit that Marvel America should be depicted as a science fiction setting?

Now that Disney bought Fox and managed to outbid Comcast, how will Disney manage to get Comcast to offer up the Hulk, Namor and theme park rights?

Its obvious when Disney bought Fox theyll adopt whatever contacts are in place which means they are coming home. We know that the F4 contract says Fox had to make one every 7 years was it? Expect F4 no later than 2020/21 to meet that contract so Disney will keep that contract.

I wouldn't mind Disney going to bid for Sony too, just so Spider-Man can be secured. Hopefully putting an end to all these other "No Spider-Man" movies they are trying to do.

Disney cant bid for Sony that would push them over 50% market share and the DOJ would get involved. They can bid on the spiderman rights tho. And I think they wil next summer after far from home.
