@Spider-Fan I disagree vehemently with the notion that just because Magneto is the most popular villain and he's the antithesis of Charles Xavier, that he has to appear first. That's an early 2000s line of thinking. "Green Goblin is Spider-Man's most popular villain so we gotta do him first because we might not get the chance later on" where sequels and franchises were not a for sure thing. Feige has a chance to plan out an entire trilogy of films and then some. Spider-Man was written in Civil War with the intention of having a 5-film arc. And it's not like Feige is not confident in using lesser-known villains. Marvel's whole M.O has been turning water into wine. Feige is not the type of guy to let recognizablity dictate what he puts on screen. Especially with the situation the X-Men are in now with the movies underperforming and the Singer formula running out of fuel and especially with the brand Marvel has built. Feige is feeling more confident than ever to take chances. Now is the perfect time to try new things with this franchise and playing it safe with Magneto as the villain again severely limits that potential..

Also, you're assuming that the struggle of mutants has to be contextualized the same exact way with Magneto. There are other, unexplored ways to get that message across. The context of X-Men is that they protect human beings who hate them. That concept/theme can be communicated in a variety of ways. The same way Marvel recontextualized the theme of "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And the audience will thank Marvel for doing that. Because it's all about doing something that's never been done before. We know this is the inevitable path the MCU X-Men movies are going to take. We don't need to remake X-Men (2000) in the MCU

I'd rather see Magneto not appear in the MCU X-Men right away, and have his first appearance in the MCU be built up to. Make him mean something again, rather then be shoehorned into every X-Men movie like he has been in the Fox movies for the past few years.

The idea of the X-Men fighting Magneto and a brotherhood in the first movie is exciting, but the idea of setting up Magneto as a big threat, to show up in a third movie or something, is a bit more exciting to me.

But if Magneto shows up in the first X-Men or years later, honestly I'll be happy either way. I'm excited about the team done right, which I believe they'll have no problems with.

And here we all years later and there are still some characters under the Marvel banner that are not fully owned by the MCU. Who owns Namor right now?

Theres a rumour going around that marvel comics might get shutdown.

Losing money. Comic sales are a shadow of what they used to be.

It can be their secondary venture, but they should still keep it because of all the history. People will still like reading hard copies too.

They should go paperless. I love reading comics digitally

How do Marvel ensure that there isn't piracy when it is digital? That seems like once it's out there on the internet, it could get distributed illegally and no-one else would buy proper copies.

The rumor is false. It was started by some guy who was mad about the treatment of Richard Rider

I don't think they would drop the comics, but they should have a look at how the distribution could be improved for stores and readers. The current situation seems like they are on life support.

There is already piracy unsurprisingly. People scan every page of new books and put them up for download.

Do people still buy hard copies and digital copies even despite it being offered for free illegally? How does Marvel get around this? What about with DVD/ BR movies?

Marvel owns Namor, but Universal has his and Hulk’s distribution rights.

Again, the Green Goblin comparison is a bad one. Magneto has always been the undisputed arch enemy of the X-Men. Osborn has not been. Magneto has always been top dog for the X-Men in all media outside and in comics. Look at any game or cartoon. Magneto is always a main boss and is in like half the episodes of every cartoon. Norman Osborn only got that treatment once he came back into comics at the end of the Clone Saga. There is a long period of Spider-Man history where Peter had different arch enemies.

Also, you keep acting as if I said Magneto is the only option for a first movie. I never said that. I said he is the most likely based on his history in the comics and popularity. Nothing you're saying is changing my mind in the least and we're just going in circles. So again, it just looks like we disagree

I'd like to see Eric first appearing in a different franchise other than the X-Men. I just have no idea which one would make sense.

Maybe Feige might do Professor X and Magneto standalones. You know how First Class was going to X-Men Origins: Magneto at one point.

I can see Charles showing up before, in a different franchise, talking about mutants on TV or something like that.

I'd love to see Eric being mentioned before, creating expectation when he finally shows up.

I think he would definitely be the likeliest, and it’s only the fact that he’s had about 10,000 hours of screentime already in the Fox films that he (and Wolverine) aren’t the dead certs they otherwise would be. Xavier though I believe is a must in the first film as well as least a reference to Magneto.
