Ehh, I don't get the hype around Agents of Shield or Agent Carter, but I love DD, LC and tolerate IF.

It's a shame they don't give Luke Cage Season 2 the respect it deserves. Bushwacker is underrated af.

LMAO

Bushmaster

I loved that character.

Unfortunately I'm enjoying Luke Cage less and less.
I just can't stomach Colter and his non-acting. He has literally made me cringe on several occasions, he's so bad.

Henry Simmons would have been perfect for the part.
Imagine someone who actually has talent portraying such a badass character...

Bro, I'm from Brooklyn, and that damn Bushmaster and how they depicted my neighborhood was so accurate. IDC what anyone says, for that alone season 2 has a special place in my heart lol.

But seriously, Colter is a lousy actor and it's the supporting cast that makes that show enjoyable. Simmons definitely would've showed more personality, or at the very least J. August Richards.

I gotta be honest I wish Quentin Tarratino got to make his 70’s era black-exploitation Luke Cage film. That would have been so rad. That would’ve been the right way to go for the character instead a modern day Netflix show, imo.

Literally anyone else would've been better.

I'm sorry. Colter might be a nice guy and all, but he's the sort of "talent" that should only be given bit parts, like the goons that get beat up every other episode.

But yeah, Mustafa Shakir was fantastic. Those tics he gave to the character, like sucking on his teeth, made him a real person. He was great.

Ehh. The film fan in me would've liked it, but the socially conscious black man that I am says different. I love QT, but the only way he knows black people is through (stereotypical) movies/tv shows, so having someone like him at the helm probably wouldn't have been the best move. The one thing I applaud Marvel/Disney is that they know their audiences and treat them respectfully, so it's for the best they have Cheo Hodari Coker at the head.

To each their own on that. To be honest, I find the Luke Cage show to be incredibly boring and not that engaging besides some little moments here there. Luke Cage started off as basically the comic book version of those old blackploitation movies and while I acknowledge Tarratino has his shortcomings when it comes to portraying POC in a nuanced way — I still think his take on Cage would have been far more interesting than the Netflix show.

Saw this comment on another deadline article dont know how accurate it is.

November 1st Disney will complete it merger with Fox creating The Walt Disney Company 2.0 . And early 2019 China will follow through with US and EU. I can see FX being a powerful brand like HBO, and Nat Geo brand for education. Walt Disney strike a jackpot with it best acquisition ever.

so China wont give approval till Q1 2019. By the sound of things. But looks like the merger will be 95% complete in 2018

I agree, FX is on the level of HBO in terms of consistent quality, which is why I would love a Marvel property (or two) to be overseen by John Landgraf for streaming or FX..

I wonder what the status of fx will be after this thing goes through. Because a blade and moonknight show would go great there.

Alright. So- Venom has made its opening weekend debut and has hauled in (what is from my understanding) a pretty impressive $200+ million WW, meaning that it has already probably made its budget back. However, if most of our predictions are correct, it's likely to be heavily frontloaded, facing a significant dropoff in subsequent week(end)s.

The question at the crux of all this for me- the one that's most up in the air- is, does Sony even care? Does it even matter to them- or any studio- when a studio makes its budget back, as long as it does?

For as inept as we think they are, they have to realize that Venom is their star player (I know that Avi does), and they'll have to consider the legs of their projects (and not just rely on a massive OW) for something like Jackpot.

ive argued in favour of venom being a success before and why its a good thing. I think it gives Sony confidence to move forward without spiderman and i can see them renewing a new deal with marvel leeching of their success and moving forward with venom sequels that maybe introduce Miles if into the spiderverse is a hit.

its the best of both worlds. Sony made almost a billion dollars with Homecoming why would they throw that away? And after Avengers 4 i think Far from home has billion dollar potential. Ala The iron man 3 effect.

Some of you are really ungrateful when it comes to marvel TV. Maybe you need some DC l level quality to appreciate things. Loeb is not the problem and overall he has done a good job.

He is not Feige but no one is in Hollywood so it's unreasonable to compare. You could have shows like powerless, super girl, flash going downhill or arrow. Be grateful.

They shouldn't need Chinese approval to go through with the merger. They'd only need Chinese approval to do business in China as the new entity, and in a worst case, they could maintain unique Fox and Disney Chinese entities, so I could see them going through with the deal and sorting out the details with China later.

But Europe is probably a bigger concern, and that won't be officially decided until the 19th (though maybe they have advance notice that it will be a go).

It has seemed odd that they seem to be restructuring as if the deal is done, so they must at least be very confident there won't be any big road blocks. I'd be surprised if it happened as soon as November 1st, but I can't say it's impossible. I do think, because of issues like release schedules and films like Dark Phoenix, Gambit etc. they do have motivation to do this sooner rather than later and prevent Fox from investing in things the combined entity won't want.

One thing that might suggest this is their plan is that I would assume, while they may not be able to reference Marvel or the specific character Tom Holland plays, they should be able to use "Spider-man" as a generic character if they wanted to. So they could have (similar to Batman in Justice League) used a costumed character to connect Venom if they had wanted to. So the lack of that may indicate the really do want to keep a complete stand-alone universe at least as an option.

That seems like kind of a crazy strategy to me, but IF Venom is strong enough to anchor that universe, it could be lucrative (allowing them to have their cake and eat it too as long as Marvel wants to continue to use Spider-man), but I thought the idea of a Venom stand-alone was crazy and it seems to be doing well (at least in the short-term) so what do I know?

All tho at the end of the day maybe Feige should have just let Venom be in the MCU? And we wouldnt be having this will they wont they conversation around the status of spiderman.

if he and his creative team were involved maybe it would have gotten better reviews. It makes you wonder why Feige turned down Venom in the MCU. Was it the script? if he said yes to Venom being in the MCU im sure he could have done a once over on the script and requested some tweaks and maybe we would have had a better movie.

Feige should have let venom into the mcu? Who says that sony wanted him in the mcu? It seems to me that sony had plans for a venom film before they did the deal for spiderman.

i vaguely remember reading some where that sony approached Marvel about Venom being in the MCU but Marvel declined. But I cant seem to find the source at the moment.

Never heard that. Was it for the venom movie or just as a possible spidey villain?

This. Luke Cage 2 is daredevil 2 level of quality. I think most people that dismisses it never watched it. Bushmaster was a great villain

You may be remembering the infamous video of an interview wherein Amy Pascal claimed that Venom was going to be part of the MCU while Kevin Feige looked on in bemused silence. Pascal had to clarify a few days later that Venom was not part of the MCU and that the studios had never had an agreement beyond the handling of Spider-Man himself. Pascal's blunder did give us some great Feige memes, though.

Venom probably hasn't done so much damage that they couldn't work something out, but it would come down to what both sides want, and I'm sure Marvel would demand a high level of creative control (similar to the Spider-Man deal) going forward.

The box office results for Venom should strengthen Sony's bargaining position if both sides are interested in talking.
