DOFP was certainly a weird direction to go in after First Class. Apocalypse should have been the second film IMO with DOFP as the third. But I can see why Fox wanted to make it when they did tho. The fan backlash at that point was getting out of hand I think they finally started to agree with the fans to a certain degere as well. They obviously knew they were making apocalypse after and would be reintroducing the Phoenix so they needed to remove Last stand from the timeline asap. I really wish Hugh would do one more movie set in between Wolverine and Logan. That seems like such an interesting period to explore especially the westchester incidence.

The reboot the FOX X-Men franchise needed was in the creative team. We needed completely new and fresh names behind the camera. People with genuine passion for the X-Men, the team, not only 3 characters.

But we got Kinberg, from all people. The result is this... thing.
This right here. X-men is a team. I appreciate what the first movie did but let’s be real. Times have changed and we want an xmen franchise that taps into the weirdness of the comic

Maybe we'll finally get to see Nightcrawler team up with Leprechauns :P

But In all seriousness, I want to see the Brood (MCU version of Xenomorph), Savage Land/Sauron, Shi'ar, Charles/Lilandra, Eric the Red and the Imperial Guard explored in the X-Men movies. It's time to stop trying to make the X-Men grounded to tell the same stories over and over again about Magneto and human vs mutant. The X-Men were NEVER grounded in reality. Marvel needs to tap into the side of the X-Men that will truly differentiate it from the Fox movies.

I just think it's exciting that we have so many possibilities with our mutants and how they're introduced with them coming to the MCU. With Uncanny X-Men you can start with the original 5, in another movie you can do a Wolverine vs Hulk standalone, in Captain Marvel's orbit you can have Rogue/Mystique/Destiny, Storm could be flying around Wakanda making it rain with Black Panther, etc.

It's so interesting.

Well, the X-Men going to space and fighting aliens has never been a defining thing for them, apart from the Phoenix Saga. It happened in the comics, yes, but it doesn't define the X-Men. And it wasn't a big part of the comics, all the cartoons and even video games. So I really don't like the idea forcing the X-Men fighting aliens just to distance themselves from FOX. Just focusing on the actual X-Men and taking a break from Eric and Charles would already be drastically different than anything FOX has done.

Take the Fantastic Four to space. It makes sense for them. First, establish the X-Men as the heroes who fight for those who fear and hate them and develop that. The X-Men can have cosmic adventures later on... but hopefully not in their own movie, the same way Peter, Tony and Strange had theirs.

But we've been this before....

One thing I know for certain, Kitty should have kept her role in DOFP instead of being swapped out for Wolverine. Ellen Page could have totally carried DOFP and it would have been refreshingly different to have her be the lead of an X-Men movie

The lack of understanding about what to do with any character not named Wolverine, Magneto, Charles or Mystique has always been the Achilles' Heel of these movies, even the really good ones like Logan and X2. The X-Men have some fantastic characters who could be real breakouts if done correctly, and it seems like Fox only just realized this at the very end of their tenure with the license (what with them trying and failing to get that Gambit spin-off off the ground multiple times).

That's an area I hope Marvel improves on.

Deadpool 2 did a better job of establishing the team than most of the X-Men films.

I think we should be a little concerned how much focus Marvel will put on Wolverine. Especially If Iron Man is anything to go by. After 20 odd films hes still the centre of a attention.

Iron Man gets nowhere near the focus in Avengers films as Wolverine did in the X-Men films. Yeah, he's the main, but the others get plenty of time to shine.

They only do that because people just can't seem to get enough of RDJ's Iron Man. There's no guarantee that the actor who will be chosen to play Wolverine will become as popular as Downey Jr.

I don't agree. Iron Man is still the center of attention, but it's rarely at the expense of the other heroes around him. Other characters are still getting movies and even in the team-ups, the other characters usually get focus as well (except for Hawkeye in the first Avengers film, maybe).

The construction of the MCU also means that if a character is shortchanged in a particular movie, they can at least be counted on to get more focus in their solo film most of the time. Contrast that with characters like Storm, Kitty, Colossus and Cyclops, who despite having been in like multiple by this point, have been about as thoroughly characterized and explored as a piece of cardboard.

Hell, Deadpool did more with Colossus in one film than the proper X-Men movies did in over a decade.

I mean who's the first character we see in the end game trailer? Iron Man lol.

I still disagree with this. The notion that the X-Men have to remain a grounded team. The X-Men have wayyy more Cosmic stories and ties to extraterrestrials than Peter and Stark combined. Strange as far as I know, rarely ever fights aliens. His whole deal is protecting the multiverse from otherworldly beings so that's already a entire step above aliens anyway. The climax of Doctor Strange takes place in another dimension.

As I've said before, the X-Men venture out into the cosmos or are involved with extraterrestrial as much or if not more than the Avengers. Shi'ar Empire/Imperial Guard/Eric the Red, Brood, Asteroid M, SWORD, War of the Kings, Ord/Breakworld etc. Lockheed: Kitty Pryde's best friend turned out to be an alien spy for Abigail Brand. The X-Men have always had strong ties to extraterrestrial races. Mutants are literally a result of Celestial experimentation. Astonishing X-Men in particular put a much heavier emphasis on Cosmic adventures. So it's not really forcing them into it, it's always been a prevalent part of the comics. If not more so than elements like time travel and clones. It's just one of the many aspects of the X-Men lore that is ripe for Marvel to explore, especially since Feige wants the future of the MCU to be more Cosmic-orientated. There is no reason to shy away from it.

And Marvel will probably want to explore new stories and take the X-Men to places we've never seen before. That's why Spider-Man is now in Londom and Italy instead of having another movie take place in New York City. Marvel will definitely want to spice things up.

I'm personally thrilled by this proliferation of X-merchandise the past year since the deal was announced. I have so many cool X-Men shirts, I can't stand it.

So apparently these are the assets causing concern in Mexico. Specifically FNG Latin America.

Fox Networks Group International
  • Fox Networks Group Europe
  • Fox Networks Group Asia
  • Fox Networks Group Latin America
Fox Networks Group is 21st Century Fox's primary operating unit for television distribution. It produces and distributes 300+ entertainment, sports, factual and movie channels in 45 languages across Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, using several brands, including Fox, STAR India, National Geographic Channel and Baby TV. Among their non-linear brands are Fox Now and Hotstar. These brands reach over 1.725 billion households around the world.

My guess is Disney just divests its interest in FNG Latin America. Or agree to run it as a separate business. I really wish it was just the main 20th Century Fox studio that Disney were buying. The deal probably would have closed by now if that was the case. Thats all they needed for the Marvel characters and Avatar etc. But because of the international presence that Fox has with FNG. its holding things up.

@Darkprime I think Mexico is just concerned about Cable Sports just like Brazil is, I think they might just divest the Fox Sport networks assets in Latin America.

They have seemed very willing to sell off sports channels. I think they'd rather be able to focus on their own channels plus any cash they can get for selling Fox channels helps them pay for the deal.

And in terms of how quickly the deal gets approved, I think this helps them in an odd way. A lot of government agencies would feel they need to make at least a symbolic stand against such a big deal between corporate giants. By focusing on certain channels, it gives Disney something they can offer as a concession so the anti-trust agencies can say they got something and didn't just rubber stamp it. I almost feel like if they didn't have something to target like this, they'd look for something else.

OTT but its so awesome seeing DC finally have some success.

'Aquaman' Star Jason Momoa Praises Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man for Opening Door for More Superheroes

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Momoa was asked why it took so long for an Aquaman movie to happen. The interviewer points out that for decades it was just Superman and Batman movies made over and over again. Momoa credits Downey’s performance as Iron Man with clearing the way for a wider variety of superheroes to make their way to the big screen.

“The only thing about it now is, people want more,” Momoa says. “They’ve heard those other stories, and there’s plenty more to tell, but they want new ones. When Batman v Superman came out and it introduced Wonder Woman, she came in and blew it open. I feel like Marvel, in its own right, has been blowing the door open with other new characters as well. I mean look what Iron Man did. That was amazing. Who knew what the hell Iron Man did? I definitely didn’t. I feel like I knew more about Aquaman, and I barely knew anything about Aquaman over Iron Man (laughs). Robert Downey just came in and destroyed it. So there are all these beautiful, modern mythologies that people get inspired by and it’s nice to see something different.”

Till this day I believe Marvel not having rights to all their main Characters(FF, Spidey,Xmen)was the best thing to ever happen to Marvel Studios. The ultimate blessing in disguise. It made them really invest, and take care what these lower characters stood for.

I wonder if the title Far From Home has a deeper meaning. Sort of reflecting Spider-Man's current status in the MCU. Being so close to home yet so far.
