That would line up with the deal closing in January. I think the January close is real. But it sounds like theyll let Dark Phoenix come out first. New Mutants sounds like its not happening. if they cant start developing for six months.
I think he means it more in that time frame i.e January to July. Anywhere between then, they will get the greenlit. And I hope Dark Phoenix goes to Disney+

idk if the deal closes in January theirs still paperwork to file. And the actual transfer of the rights would probably take six months after the deal closes.

Why would it take 6 months when Disney owns the contracts to the rights itself? Unless Fox made them sign a clause that bars Marvel from using the characters until 6 months after the deal closes.

When it closes, it will be closed. The previous Fox Studios will no longer exist as an independent legal entity. It will be owned by Disney and all rights, copyrights, equipment, golf-carts, costumes etc. will be owned by Disney.

The moment the deal closes, Disney will have the complete rights to do anything they want with any properties that previously belonged to Fox.

There is a lot of work, but that work is happening now and that's why the closing is taking so long, but when it closes, that will be it.

You have to conider thr integration of the Fox assets. Theres a reason Iger is staying till 2021. It doesnt happen overnight. I imagine for Iger moving the marvel IPs under Feige will be top priority but that still takes time.

They have to look over what fox is doing and decide what to do with any movies they are working on. Dark Phoenix will likely still release. New Mutants is a coin toss at this point.

So if we consider that Dark Phoenix still has to come out then the properties may not move under Feige till Dark Phoenix is released. I could be wrong. But the integration process just doesnt happen overnight.

They're letting Edgar Wright handle it. Although it would probably take 6 years instead. :o

Probably because technically, the rights remain with FOX. So once the asset transfer is complete, paperwork and such will need to be filed and such in order to shift assets around. Which Disney will definitely do.

I think it's just Dark Phoenix and New Mutants that they'll have to make a call on (and those will likely be money decisions and out of Feige's hands). As for anything else (Deadpool and related properties would be the most obvious ones), I think Feige will have quite a bit of freedom in deciding what happens. I would expect that the day after the deal closes, the top managers working on Marvel films at Fox will report to Feige, and at that point, he can start looking over scripts, production designs etc. to decide what he wants to keep and what he wants to scrap.

No. Feige himself said that they will get them within the first 6 months of the year. Not 6 months after the close. As soon as the deal closes the properties are back under Marvel.

If the deal closes and we find out the rights transfer immediately ill admit I was wrong. And I want to be wrong. But Feiges quote is certainly open to interpretation. First six months of the year is very vague. Does he mean six months after the deal or that the deal will close anytime between Jan-June?

My assumption is he means once the deal is closed. I have no doubts some additional transfer paperwork within their various companies have to be filed, but I don't think that would take 6 months to do. They probably would have any of that paperwork all ready to go once the deal is final.

Very funny to think they'll be at the drawing board starting early planning on the X-Men while Kinberg is doing press calling Dark Phoenix a new beginning lmao.

Those comments have already aged poorly.

Not defending Kinberg but you gotta remember from his pov its business as usual until hes told otherwise. He probably knows what hes saying is stupid and cringe. The Fox marketing team probably gave him a script to follow in interviews and told him exactly what to say. "Tell them its the start of a new chapter, that will get them excited!" - Kingberg probably thinking you know this thing is going to be rebooted right? But he cant say that even though that's what they all know.

Keep in mind that Fox doesn't "own" anything. Marvel licensed them rights to use under very specific circumstances. The only thing preventing Marvel from developing a Fantastic Four or X-Men film right now is the possibility that Fox could sue them for violating their licensing agreement.

Realistically, nobody is going to sue anybody now, but Marvel management has probably instructed Feige to not develop any properties for two reasons:
1. On the off chance this all falls through, there's no point in wasting effort on projects they might not be able to use.
2. Marvel wouldn't want the appearance of any impropriety since the two entities need to function independently right up until the moment the deal closes.

I'm as certain as I could be that the moment the deal closes, Feige will be able to jump in with both feet. The only thing that would stop him would be an edict from upper management telling him to hold off for some reason.

And I can't imagine any logical reason for that edict, so I assume they're going to turn him loose.

Who is Daniel Alter?

If this guy is not associated with Marvel in any way, then why would he know anything? His IMDB (assuming this is his legit account) shows no Marvel association. Just produced some Hitman movies.

Not defending him but if hes worked at Fox its possible hes got contacts at Fox Marvel who have contacts at Marvel Studios. And since why are we questioning twitter sources all of a sudden? lol.

I question this only because when people post thing in here, it is treated like news or something we should trust. I don't trust sources unless I know where they're coming from or if they'd actually be in a position to know something. This guy's posts just don't pass my kosher test.

Just speaking in general here, and not specifically about Disney/Fox, but is licensing rights to a third party always a bad idea? And if you do licence rights, what is a reasonable time period?

With your books you've written, do you still own the copyright to that or have you assigned that to a publisher? Or, if you still own them, have you licensed your rights to them? Would you ever consider doing that? Or, having seen the situation here with Marvel and Fox and how long it's taken for them to get the rights back, is that something you'd never consider?
