They need to leave him aside for a while too, because X-Men Apocalypse made his name rather toxic, and it's too soon after that. It was also much higher profile than something like Fant4stic.
True but that's not to say that Sinster and Apocalypse couldn't be the big bad of this X-Men trilogy. Apocalypse unlike Magneto has been done poorly and he could be built up to in like an event film for Phase 6. Like imagine the X-Men beat Sinister in X3 and we realize that he's trying to create the ultimate mutant to kill Apocalypse. This leads into an MCU event film where En Sabah Nur (complete with his Celestial ship and Riders of the Dark instead of the Horsemen) attempts to usher in a new age of the MCU: the Age of Apocalypse. Where only the strong survive

They need a crossover with Beta Ray Bill, who could become one of the Horsemen.

:bdh:

Since Fox already did DOFP, maybe Marvel can do the Age of Apocalypse indeed.

Now, that's not to ignore the fact that Marvel can make a better DOFP, but I digress...

Well, AOA could be their own version of DOFP if they wanted it to be. As opposed to an alternative universe, it could be a dystopian future where the heroes lost to Apocalypse. But then again, that may be too close to Endgame

I suppose they could go back to basics and have Magneto be the first villain. Could make it bit more grounded especially after Thanos.

Find a different villain to make it more grounded. Using Magneto again is like having Superman films and the only movie villains we can ever get are Lex Luthor (in Superman Returns and BvS) and General Zod (in Man of Steel). Both felt like retreads of Superman 1 and 2.

We've seen Magneto so many times. Let him rest for a while and have someone else. Don't know which X-Men villain they could use, but not Magneto or Apocalypse.

Maybe Sinister, or Arcade, or Sauron. First Class started off well with Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club, but still waded into Magneto territory.

Or how about Count Nefaria? He has crossover potential with the Avengers and Iron Man, but also was integral to the first Giant Sized X-Men story with Thunderbird.

^ This. It's definitely not going to be Magneto. I wouldn't be surprised if Feige had him sit out an entire trilogy like they're doing with Norman Osborn. There are dozens of unused X-Men villains that would be fresh. An entire trilogy with new villains is something I would love to see.

Characters who have been done poorly or been relegated to cameos or haven't appeared since the first X-Men movie will likely be the first ones redone

The argument could be made the the audience might need something familiar to latch on to. Magneto could be the latch. If not Magneto then I very much expect a cameo from an Avenger to appear in the first x-men movie. Maybe Cap or Tony. Depending who's left after End Game.

The audience will have something familiar to latch onto, because you can't do X-Men without Professor X. But you can without Magneto. Plus there probably will be Cyclops and Jean too, and probably Storm.

The only familiar characters you need are the core essentials/building blocks i.e Charles, Scott, Jean and Ororo. But they can be surrounded by a whole new cast of villains and characters like what Marvel did with Homecoming. Magneto is not an essential element, especially after his overexposure in 7 X-Men films as a main character. There are new avenues to explore.

There probably will be MCU character(s) in the movie. The best bet is Nick Fury because I could see Marvel pulling from Ultimate X-Men in that sense. Cap and Stark will probably be dead

Brian Micheal Bendis keeps saying he's writing the Kitty Pryde film like its still happening.

“I’m literally working on it today. I know there’s confusion and guesswork about what’s going on with Fox and Disney but I have no information about that. I do not know what is going on with anything other than that I have been contracted to do something I’m very excited to do with someone I really, really like as a creator. I think Tim[Miller] is one of the best ever and I’m having a really good time doing it so we’ll see what happens. Honestly, I was literally taking a break from writing it to check Twitter the other day and someone said ‘Hey, what’s going on with that thing?’ and I said I’m working on it right now but didn’t realise that was news so, yeah, I’m still working on it.”

Guesswork? What the heck is Bendis smoking? Lauren Schuler Donnor said that Feige is going to take control of the X-Men properties going forward and all the other spinoffs are on hold. Does Bendis believe that Feige will make that Kitty Pryde film? I can see a Kitty Pryde Disney Plus series set in the MCU but a movie?

In his defence hes a pretty low level employee even though he his working on a fox marvel movie. Hes a writer. he wouldn't know much beyond what hes working on and he has to act as those its business as usual he must know his project will likely gets scrapped. He just cant say it up front even though he and everyone else knows its exactly what theyre thinking.

Yeah Bendis has to pretend he doesn't know what's going on. His project will either be cancelled or reworked into a Disney+ show me thinks. But perhaps not since Marvel has to introduce mutants, a Kitty show at this point will have to connect to the main narrative. That's why Gambit, Multiple Man are probably not getting folded into the MCU either

He probably knows a movie is unlikely to happen but there's no harm in him writing a script. Just like there is no harm in applying or interviewing for a job you are unlikely to get. Kevin Feige may end up liking parts of the script and hiring him for an entirely different project.

Bendis writing a script is like writing a forum post or Wikipedia entry knowing it's going to get deleted. Seems a lot of time wasted in vain.

Bendis will still be getting paid for that script, that's why he is gonna finish it whether it sees the light of day or not. It's a paycheck.

I know people are all keen on Galactus or Doom being the next collective MCU Big Bad, but you could make the same argument for Magneto or Apocalypse. Gradually build Mags up in post credit scenes with his attacks against humans and then boom we got AvX.

But I still vote Sinister for being the first MCU X-Men antagonist.

The new international trailer to Dark Phoenix is interesting.

Interesting touch that Chastain’s character said that power killed everything it’s come into contact with as a nod to making it seem like the Phoenix is its own entity, but the damage and inconsistencies have already been done.

I’m sure Storm and Nightcrawler each will only have 4 lines in the movie.

I could see Marvel shelving Magneto for a couple of films. How about Apocalypse being redone first?
I would love for Fiege to get their hands on Appcalypse. It probably won't happen any time in the distant future though given hoe he wants to do stuff not done before.

Im down with that

No to Magneto. He's been the recurring villain for the last nearly 20 years in the X-Men series. And now that he's in the MCU, they're going to say "Who can we get as our next villain? I know, let's make Magneto the big bad! We haven't seen him before!" :o

I would not be surprised if Magneto was the villain at all in the first MCU X-Men movie. In fact, I expect him to be. But, I think introducing someone like Mr. Sinister for a 1st movie would be better, and use Magneto in the 2nd film.

Or Annihilus or Kang... the key to me is that the FF and X-Men rights give the MCU a new influx of great villains to choose from. And I hope with characters like Doom, we start getting some recurring villains that don't just pop up once and disappear.

With all that Marvel has accomplished, with the X-Men and FF we can look forward and see that they haven't even started yet. :D

Lol @ Bendis taking the Kinberg head in the sand approach

he knows that we all know, he's just Bendising at this point.
