The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 9

Is there any sort of thaw or talk between you guys and Fox so we can get Fantastic Four, or have you guys been working on Fantastic Four with them?

FEIGE: No, but I would say there’s not like there’s anything frozen that there needs to be a thaw. There’s no weirdness. It is just very very cut and dry, and they’re doing their thing, and they’re doing it quite well in most regards, and we’re doing our thing.

Well, that sucks. But at the same time, if there was anything it's not like Feige would come out and say it.

I like to think they'll just wait or they'll need the cosmic characters sooner rather than later.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the guy who signs off on handing back F4, assuming Marvel then turns it into a huge franchise, will have to answer to the investors as to why he couldn't make it profitable. Not really a position people want to actively put themselves in

I'd rather answer to investors about that than try to explain to investors why I green-lighted another film while the fans were openly saying they didn't want it and after the previous three each made less than the one before - the last one being such a bomb it led to a dramatic drop in stock price.

Shareholders are much more concerned with money coming out of their pockets - as happened after Fant4stic - than they are concerned with money going into someone else's pockets.

I can't really blame him for stretching the truth in that case. If you want relations to improve, it doesn't help to be too honest about how bad things really are.

Fox couldn't have done that for The Thing (no thingy).

If they don't have the rights, just add a suffix onto the end of the name like Sony did. Problem solved:

Mr Fantastic? Mr Fantastico.

Thing? Thingy.

Invisible Woman? Invisible Womaniser

Human Torch? Human Torcher.

Silver Surfer? Silver Surface.

:o

What did Sony do?

I knew Feige and co enjoyed Fan4stic.

Sounds to me like it's going to happen, but there's no rush. With Inifinity War finally coming together and a LOAD of contract negotiations to look at, I can't see why there would be. They've got more than enough to deal with right now them trying to lock down a property that's most likely going to revert anyway.

If Homecoming comes out and the deal with Sony works as promised, I predict Fox will pursue a similar deal for the FF.

Well I certainly am in a rush to see a legit Fantastic Four movie. So to read those statements is a gut punch for me.

Was the quote you posted earlier from a recent interview? The wording was so similar to something he said several months ago that I thought you were just referencing it as it related to the long list of FF characters Marvel forbade.

I never really thought it was about the actual 4 themselves that they are in a rush to get back either. It was the goldmine of supporting characters/villains that were possibly featured in phase 4 after Thanos. But maybe they have other plans.

I'm going to stop saying this at some point, but it is truly unfathomable to me that FOX and Disney/Marvel execs were sitting at the negotiation table post FFINO and they allowed Murdoch to walk away from it with additional Marvel character rights without insisting upon rights reversion. Maybe this will all make sense a few years from now, but it sure as heck doesn't now.

Who knows. They might have worked out something very complex that included some future X-Men crossovers and co-production/character sharing with FF.

It doesn't make sense for Marvel and Fox to work against each other and the TV shows might have been the first step in a much more cooperative relationship.

Maybe it was even something of a trial balloon to see if it was even possible for the two to work together.

But if that were the case, I'd at least expect Feige to be saying the relationship was improving, so it all seems very strange.

It's from the latest Collider interview. Just posted today.

Some of us might not have that long left to make it to a theatre to see it. I swear every time a car gets near my bike, I age another year. Given Utah drivers, I'm nearly as old as Stan Lee, right now due to that. :oldrazz:

Get a car and switch to spinning classes :p

You all ever just stop and think or accept that maybe these F4 rights are not reverting back as soon as you'd like them to revert? That there's no grand master plan for them to be the linchpin to Phase 4 or something?

I know it's called the 'Keep HOPE alive' thread, but there may indeed be nothing beneath the surface of Feige's words and reversion may just be a waiting game.

Obviously, no one is sure what is going to happen.

Are you suggesting we change the thread title to "All Hope Is Lost!"?

Before my post was removed (I'm sure it was because it was related Bannana'ed poster), I said I'm not interested in criticizing Marvel because I don't know enough about what's going on behind the scenes and neither, presumably, do any of us. We read stuff and say "Oh....see how stupid so and so was?" In fact, WE are most likely the ignorant ones. Let's pick up what we can, but just because you read something, doesn't make it gospel (which isn't, IMO, very reliable either, but you get the point).

Your absolutely right. We are all on the outside lookin in. All we really do here is speculate and analyze things. But if we didn't we wouldn't have anything to talk about here at all.

I'd like them to revert within the next 5 years, and I haven't seen anything to make me think that's not going to happen.

At this point I think it's best to wait for the rights expiration and hoping that we don't hear anything about Fox's plans for the franchise.

I say there's no rush because it's at least 3 years until they would start filming anything involving newly aquired characters like Doom or the FF themselves. By that point Fox will be 5 years into their 7 year window and Marvel will have a better idea of what kind of price they may need to pay. The longer Marvel waits, the lower that price will get.

If a deal or purchase occurs in 2020, that's still early enough to premiere characters in Black Panther 2.
