I knew he would get banned. I suspect all new posters now, especially ones who suddenly join in conversations on threads.

Yep. It certainly seem like the XMen TV rights transaction had nothing to do with FF live action movie rights.
Interesting thing about the first quote - and something we didn't know - is that Marvel already co owned Ego, so they didn't really need it from Fox. Instead of asking for something else - like co ownership of Galactus/SS/Storm - they ask to fully own a character they already owned lol. Never changer Marvel, never change.
I won't lie, Gunn's comment is disheartening
But that being said I wonder how in the loop he would be on it all? He didn't know the Badoon was held by Fox until he wrote them into GOTG1.
And what he saying now about Ego being shared all along is contrary to his previous comment on that trade:
"Yes, this is true! When I first pitched Ego as Quill's father, I THOUGHT we owned the character. After I had worked out a very elaborate story with Ego the Living Planet as a very important part of the Marvel cosmic universe, I learned that we actually didn't own the character. I had no back up plan, and it would be nearly impossible to just drop another character in. Thank God Fox came to us and wanted to make a trade...That was a pretty definite statement that he couldn't have used Ego if they had not done that deal."![]()
So...I don't know what to think, lol.

The Gunn quote on the previous page lets me know for sure that both studios know that the fans want the FF back at Marvel. So why would Fox sit on the rights to a film that they know fans would bash from the onset? I also wonder what Disney's plan is. Have they offered a deal and Fox refused? Or are they waiting for the rights to revert, taking a risk that Fox won't crap out another one?
The not knowing is incredibly frustrating. One moment there seems to be a hint of a possibility, the next its gone. I'm intrigued by Marvel being present at both D23 and SDCC, but I won't get my hopes up over anything.

I say keep the hope alive. Just be patient. It might take time, but I believe it will happen. Even if it takes years, it will happen.

It could be that because the MCU is an amalgam of the comic book planet andMarvel only had the rights to a portion of what Gunn wanted to present.a celestial
Worth noting Fox changed his name to 'Peter' for their version. A courtesy change or something they sat down down and agreed to perhaps?
Bleeding Cool posted the list of Fantastic Four characters that are off limits to artists for trading card sketch cards. At over 400 characters, I can see why getting the movie rights back from Fox may be tougher than we fans might expect.

It's pretty cool looking through that list if nothing else.
And a couple names that jumped out at me were Terrax and Mephisto.
Those are a couple big names that I assumed Marvel had, particularly Mephisto.
I didn't have enough time to really look through the list. I'll have to do that later. Anybody else see any interesting names?
I think they technically called him Mephistopheles there. So, I suppose its possible they don't have the rights.
This right here Wobbly. First it was s straight up trade and now Ego was shared all along. Just doesnt sound right to me. They ask for a character they had in their possession. Strange indeed. I dont even know what to think now.
If they don't have the rights, just add a suffix onto the end of the name like Sony did. Problem solved:
Mr Fantastic? Mr Fantastico.
Thing? Thingy.
Invisible Woman? Invisible Womaniser
Human Torch? Human Torcher.
Silver Surfer? Silver Surface.
