Andrew is so lucky. I wonder if thing will get weird between him and Emma once MJ is introduced.

I don't think so, besides didn't Emma shoot gangster squad with Ryan gosling, while they were dating?

I think they are together before TASM even launched, and they are so commited that i don't think that a possible new love interest in TASM franchise will hurt their relationship.

I think so too. Again, it's part of their profession to make us believe that they are in love or whatever with their costar. Since they're both in that profession, hopefully they can be understanding of the work and realize it's not meant to be hurtful to their own relationship.

I think they started dating on the set of TASM1.

Yeah, they definitely would have been dating during filming of GS.

Emma pulls off that 'Gwen style' so well. In the comics, MJ was always changing with the times, (Check her out in the 80s with McFarlane) but Gwen always had her signature style. The boots, the headband, the skirts. Now, had she lived, she undoubtedly would have changed with the times as well. But her death immortalized her in this kind of timeless (but definitely 1960s) look, unlike the other characters. Emma rocks it.

You're right. Emma does rock the 60s look. I love it! :D

Hopefully not. They're actors and letting their personal relationship affect their job or vice versa would be unprofessional.

Gwen changed styles while she was living too. Sometimes she wore skirts with boots, other times she wore pants or dresses. Sometimes she wore the headband and other times she let her hair down, or wore a hat, or pulled her hair up with barrettes, etc. But her death definitely immortalized her in that outfit from the early 1970s.

Mary Jane has definitely changed clothing style with the times, but really the only drastic changes were done by Romita for a couple issues in the 60's (very short hair) and by McFarlane in the early 90's (with the big wild curly hair) in an attempt to update the character. Otherwise, she had the same Romita type look for almost two and a half decades straight and they reverted back to that look in the late 90's. I would say that the way MJ appears in the Jackpot panel is her signature look.

Anyway, Emma definitely rocks Gwen's most iconic style.

Yeah, and of course I generally mean the drastic changes. Gwen wore different outfits, but no matter what she was wearing it was always "Gwen". Again, whether that's due to her (comparatively) short time in the mythos or not, I think she tended to me more consistent in her sense of style. And the changes that Mary Jane made were characteristically appropriate for her.

Romita Sr. had a way with illustrating the ladies of Spider-Man, that's for sure. Definitely my favorite run.

^ I get what you mean. I guess the most drastic change for Gwen's appearence (and personality) was the transition between Ditko and Romita. Compare Ditko's work to Romita's later stuff and they look like completely different charcters. Her death definitely froze her in Romita's overall aesthetic though. He is also one of my favorite artists on the series. I wonder how she would have been 'updated' had Mcfarlane gotten hold of her before she died. Lol

I love Alex Ross' interpretation of Romita's Mary Jane:

I still LOL when I hear people say, "blonde Mary Jane."

I think it's because Emma Stone seems so much like Mary Jane some people just seem to presume that she is Mary Jane, but blonde. If they'd gotten more of a shyer/ delicate wallflower type actress to play Gwen people would be very definite sure that isn't Mary Jane.

I find it a little sad when people can't tell the difference between the two, but that is why I believe casting roles to suit the character's personality is so important.

Most people in the GA don't know what Mary Jane is like from the comic books though.

I think a lot of peope know her from the cartoons and games. Like me for instance I played Spider-Man games before I even watched anything and then I watched the 90's series before I watched Raimi's films and got into the comics. You do get the general idea of the characters from other media. Gwen it seems, is excluded from everything Spider-Man pre Spectacular cartoon, outside of the comic books.

I can't pinpoint the time I first got familiar with the character of Gwen, but it was some time after I'd seen The Animated Series. I do remember thinking, 'who's this? Felicia Hardy?!'

I remember when I was like 5 or 6 my dad gave me tons of Spidey comics to flip thru on a road trip, and the death of Gwen Stacy was one of them.

I feel like I've been exposed to more Gwen than MJ now aha.

I'm sure people were vaguely aware of Spider-man's wife (at the time) before the Raimi films, but now they are probably most familiar with the way that MJ was portrayed in the Raimi series and the 1990's cartoon, and in both she was kind of a mishmosh of both characters (more Gwen like in the Raimi films if you ask me). So far, the TSSM cartoon has done the best job of adapting both characters and giving them the distinct identities and personalities that they had in the comics.

I think the first time I saw Gwen was when she made a small cameo appearance in the 90's cartoon. I didn't become familiar with the character and her comic book history until much later.
