really, frank miller? that was the most disgusting thing done in comics? not DK2, or all star batman?

ha.

Miller wrote some bad stories, but he didn't hand creative control over to the audience. I don't necessarily agree with his statement, but I understand his point.

While it's certainly true that the audience must be considered by the artist, the artist must also acknowledge, as Alan Moore said, that if the audience knew what they needed, they wouldn't be the audience--they'd be the artist. If the audience was really in charge, some great stories would have never seen the light of day. A few years ago, fans might have voted against the existence of Morrison's Batman & Robin, for example.

What Saint said but also it was a horrible thing to do. Sure Jason might be an imaginary character and not a real person but it felt like the Colosseum in Rome where people would shout whether they wanted the defeated gladiator to live or die and the Emperor would give the final verdict to please them.

Besides, not liking a character and asking for him to die as opposed to be better written? That's a horrible way to go about it and to prove my point Didio almost killed Dick because his NW book wasnt selling that well but fan reaction stopped him. They should stop being so trigger happy.

Well, Jason's death did make for a great story, and it paved the way for Tim. I think it's hard to argue that the mythos would have been better off if Jason lived.

I never liked Jason, but the "call and tell us whether we should kill a child character" was just horrible.

^Well, the gimmick was bad. No doubt. Fortunately the story that resulted from said gimmick is probably the story that has enriched the Batman mythos the most since Year One. That is the storyline that resulted in the idea that Batman needs Robin to stay human and not go off the deep end in his war on crime.

Just to revert to the discussion about symbols: I think one of the most effective uses of the batsymbol in comics was during No Man's Land, where the city's various tribes tagged their territories with their chosen insignia. When Batman came back to Gotham, he used to the same tactic to mark out the streets he had reclaimed, which were under his protection.

In that context, the bat on his chest obviously needs to be seen in order for his tags to have any meaning. I would love to see Bats and Bane stake out different patches in this way.

The sonar eyes looked awful in TDK. They were too bright and too large.

Man, I love the crap out of No Man's Land--especially the Greg Rucka novelization, which I maintain is the likely the best Batman novel available. Maniacs and gangs battling Batman and the former GCPD to claim territory--it just seemed so perfect that Gotham would someday spiral into exactly that sort of chaos, with a steady few holding the line after the city is all but abandoned to the Arkham inmates. There was one scene I always liked, where Batman takes special care to mark crime alley with a particularly massive bat-tag.

NML was the kind of story you'd usually only see in an "Age of Apocalypse" style "possible future,' and to this day I applaud them for actually doing it. If there's any just in the world, the events of Arkham City will lead to a third Batman game that channels No Man's Land.

Arkham City is kind of already channeling it. A huge section of Gotham is walled off, the inmates are put in there, and inside there's just pure anarchy and chaos where the incarcerated criminals can do what ever the like.

I can't wait for that game.

I agree that there's clearly some NML inspiration in the game, but at the end of the day the Arkham district is still a prison--whereas NML was a fullscale battle between the people trying to save the city and the maniacs trying to take it over.

Now, suppose at the end of the game the quake were to occur, spilling the inmates out into the city proper. Then you'd be in a real position to do an NML game.

How about, because Batman's armor is so obvious, Bane starts ripping the pieces off during the fight, leaving Batman bare and unprotected. This could prompt Batman to wear the armor underneath the kevlar material.

I know it's unlikely but I'm going to keep pushing for this. The only thing I can't work in is an explanation for briefs and with the way Batman currently looks in the comics, chances are high that they won't use it anyway. Which I'd be cool with because the current look is pretty awesome.

Ugh.. who is the artist on that particular image? Because it's really messed up. Batman's torso is way too long. Couldn't help noticing.

i wonder how the fans will react if they decided to bring back the yellow oval back to the suit.

I would react by kissing the first person to hand, and then slipping a disk by attempting some hardcore break dancing.

Endless discussions about realism and practicality would ensue. The world would probably end.

I'm just waiting for our first image of Catwoman. If it's not armour, and instead she is wearing a flexible, form-fitting fabric (like Black Widow in Iron Man 2) then I'll be asking some questions.

Nolan should definitely get some ideas from IM2, at least in terms of visuals, designs and action.

I simply cannot understand why so many people think that Catwoman is more likely to be wearing armour than not.

I don't think she will be, which is why I can't wait to bring up the double standard.

:wow: Now I know how important that Zorro connection was! It was Bruce's one link to superhero stories with crazy-ass costumes!

Zorro's outfit was entirely black, black gloves, black mask, black cape etc. even black horse. No gray, no crazy undies on the outside, no giant symbol on his chest (although he left one carved on his enemies), he wasn't dressed as some giant fox creature, in fact it wasn’t so much a "crazy-ass costumes!" as it was more just dark riding gear with a dark cape and a mask added.

The connection to ZOrro was crucial in the comics, since seeing the Mark of Zorro with his parents shortly before they were killed sparked his idea for becoming a costumed crime fighter. But outside the comic book story, Zorro naturally was a cited influence as well but the costume was based off Superman's. Kane said he simply traced the Superman's suit and just changed colors

I don't know if it's an entirely fair comparison. Batman has always been more protected and armed than Catwoman.

He fights crime; he's built for combat. She's a thief; she's built to avoid confrontation.

That would have been a huge head scratcher. Catwoman, who relies on her agility, flexibility and acrobatics li SpiderMan and the comic book Batman would wear an armor instead of a skin tight, unrestrictive material? She's a quiet and agile thief, swift movement and flow is crucial
