The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Batsuit Discussion Thread

Heh. Speaking of, the reason I kept bringing up Darth is because I was watching episode V earlier in the week. I still think that a visually imposing look like that is a good idea to be inspired by for any movie trying to tackle larger-than-life masked costumes.

Agreed 100%.

The logo on the Begins suit never made sense.
The logo on the Begins suit was a bat; how does that not make sense? Or do you mean Nolan never explained how Wayne came to put it a logo on the suit?

They fixed that problem in TDK, but instead made it way too small.
They didn't fix anything with that logo, though even I wouldn't go so far as to say it didn't make sense... it just looks like crap is all.

That's not what I meant. I meant that the logo on the suit was different from the logo for the film. I mean, his batarangs reflected the movie logo, but his suit doesn't? In TDK, they fixed the logo on the suit to reflect the what they've been using.

Nolan should hire the guys who did the fight choreography and costume design for Nite Owl. That, IMO, is how the batsuit should look and how Batman should move in a fight.

Yeah, but it looks worse than the BB emblem. I remember Linda Hemming said when designing the BB-suit, that they tried to make it look like the logo, but it didn't look right, so they contoured it to make it flow better on the chest, which it does.

Why they changed it, I have no idea? I actually think 98% of TDK-suit is sloppy. The emblem doesn't look good, nor does it have any flow with the suit, in fact, it makes the suit look more choppy. It's small, divided in the middle, and barely recognizable.

And why does the emblem on the suit have to be the exact one that is used for the movie's logo? B89, Returns, Forever, B&R, B60's, the comics, etc don't have the same chest emblem as the batarangs, or most promotional logos for the matter(some may). I'm not sure why that's of importance, when I rather have something that looks aesthetically appealing to the eye, instead of something that matches the movies logo.

I was actually shocked by how well he could move. I knew Snyder wanted to allude to past superhero film suits (I didn't think it was needed), but I was expecting better movement/fights than Nolan gave us much like the past Batman films. It turned out a lot better than expected and he could even pull his cowl back! That was one of the few things I liked about the film.

I definitely wish the Bat-cowl could be pulled back like Nite Owl's. That's always been missing from Batman movies.

The TDK suit reminds me of the gear Bruce was wearing at the end of DK:R, so it's all good. I agree about the Nite-Owl suggestion.

Though it would be nice to see, that is one rare area where I can accept compromise in the name of realism. Batman must be wearing a lot of pads and braces under the cowl in order to protect his head, after all.

I disagree, but that's just my opinion. I think the film's logo would have looked great on the BB suit.

You could say that about the BB chest emblem as well. It's divided in the middle, and rounded compared to the rather sharp midsection area. It doesn't really flow.

It's really my own personal preference of having that symbol over the other. It even bothered me in B89 when the suit had the feet, but the film logo didn't.

They really need to bring back the whole creature of the night thing, both in appearence and theatrics.

Doesn't flow? It's contoured to his pectoral muscles, making it have a more natural flow. And it's only divided in the middle, again, because of the natural shape of his pectoral muscle. TDK's emblem wasn't a natural divide. It started the divide before the pointy bat ears, making it harder to see the entire emblem. It chopped up the emblem more than once.

No, the suit logo was all that needed to be fixed.

That's actually Terry's emblem and not Bruce's, although its not important. The important thing is that as Travesty points out the Begins emblem looks better on his chest because it's contoured to his pectoral muscles.

That emblem is original to Nolan's films. In Batman Beyond, the wings were pointed upwards. All it takes is a little research to know that...

A very similar symbol actually popped up in the '500 days' countdown thread the other day. I have to say, I was kinda shocked to see it mirror the Nolan emblem so closely, considering that I'd never really seen such a variation used anywhere before.

And yeah, the Batman Beyond symbol, while similar in elements of the design, has its wings pointed upwards and a few other differences.

Huh, I think I have that issue, and I've never noticed that. I'm happy with the Nolan symbol, butI'd be interested in other interpretations.

God I hate Kelley Jones' art.

It was hard to see because it was so small and had the added breast plate.

In the marketing for TDK, they went with a bigger symbol, which looked a lot better. The chest area on the TDK suit was natural, it just didn't seem that way due to the extra layer over the grayish area. If it wasn't for that, you would be able to see the emblem, large or small.

Always wondered why the logo on the B89 suit was different
It was dumb is what it was.

Terry's Bat Symbol, which I loved:

Matter of opinion.

You guys are splitting hairs. In any case its not like Batarangs are supposed to match his chest emblem.
