The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread III

All you haters, name one movie which was released this year which was better than the dark knight rises? Can you?

I'll be checking it out tomorrow with the family. Sadly Sunday doesn't get reported with Box Office Weekend numbers does it?

This movie missed 50 mil outside of midnights, if Saturday's drop predictions holds, I don't see 400 mil domestic a guarantee. The competition is light next week but it picks up the weeks after.

500 is a lock, possibly 550, that we all know of and is written on stone, but i so wanted it to break titanic's overall number and beat Avenger's OW. Doesnt seem like that will happen now.

That's what sucks about WB not reporting weekend numbers because of the tragedy, I understand and all but that was something we were all interested in.

Removing the tv ads definitely dampens the OW gross by at least $5 mil if not a little bit more. If it grosses $75 mil Friday or just under $80, it's still quite a feat. I think $175-$180 mil OW is where we're going at. $160 mil is a bit low and if it ends up with that amount, I'll be surprised.

I wish it was but it's not. The movie isn't the critical reviewed marvel that TDK was and the buzz is severly down becuase of the shooting. Saturday's drop will tell the tale but I'm not as optimistic as I once was.

I haven't seen it yet, but my impression is that it is too long and too depressing to merit much repeat viewing.

This is the funniest statement I've read on here in quite awhile.

It's obvious you haven't seen it because the message of the film (including the ending) is quite positive and inspirational.

$500 mil is not a lock and I agree with your post. Also, out of all the Nolan films, next to maybe Insomnia, this is not exactly his best film. I hope I'm wrong and the movie gets to $500 mil domestically but I don't see that happening. I still think TDKR is a solid film and I've seen it 3 times now it is just not Nolan's greatest and that says a lot because he makes quality movies.

Well the networks aren't doing their jobs cause I've still seen maybe 5 ads since yesterday morning. It's not like no one knew this wasn't coming out this weekend, the TV ads shown during the weekend of the movie shouldn't add too much. People are going to go, or not regardless..

Until the shooting happened, this movie had a big chance of nailing avenger's OW record but it was never meant to be.

Highly debatable. I'm someone who thought that TDKR was always a serious contender to break the Avengers OW record, but as I've said multiple times in many threads including this one, the tragedy in Colorado won't have a large, serious effect on the BO returns this weekend.
The people who were going to see this movie were goin this weekend regardless. I don't know a single person, not a one, who says this incident swayed their decision and now they won't be going this weekend.
I understand there are people like that out there that some of you may know but once again: I doubt it's enough to really put a dent in the BO returns.
Yes this movie is going to make less than it would have, had that deranged lunatic in Colorado had not have done what he did. But not by more than, I dunno, I'd guess 5 million tops. And until I see the actual weekend numbers I'm not going to be convinced otherwise.

I think you guys are just being negative. TDKR got 86% on rotten tomatoes and is getting very strong reviews and people are loving it. Plus 170 mill is fantastic and I'm happy with the performance. Main thing is people should enjoy the film!

I would also like to say it was very tragic about the shooting but you should never live in fear and you still need to carry on with your life.

True. It jumped back up to 87% by the way. A lot of good reviews just flooded in again. Batman Begins is sitting at 85%. I think most of us (fans and general audience) can agree the first film was not a "failure". A good portion of TDK's success came from people being pleased with Batman Begins. Even with late reviews, odds are this movie will not drop below 80%. Getting a "B" is still above average and good, especially when it's the third act.

I was worried about the box office at first, but then I started watching the reviews. It was then that I realised that the box office didn't matter. What matters is that the trilogy is considered a success. Turning out one great movie is wonderful, but three is a difficult feat. There will be film students talking about this for years to come. The Dark Knight trilogy will be brought up as one of the trilogies that pulled it off, and trust me, the list isn't a big one. We should be happy that we just got that.

Everything is pure speculation at this point as far as an OW total is concerned. Rival companies may even be a little deceptive in their calculations. Too many news outlets are reporting different figures.

The WB pulled all advertising due to the shooting

I don't think the tragedy put a huge dent on TDKR's BO. People who wanted to see it will do so regardless, and GA aren't boycotting the movie. Furthermore, TA had a great buildup and it delivered the goods, that's why it was able to break the record.

It's obvious I haven't seen it because I began my sentence with "I haven't seen it".

Your powers of deduction are breathtaking.

I imagine the tragedy has put a lot of old people off from seeing the movie.

It actually was a funny post because TDKR is the lightest out of Nolan's Batman. It's no where near as depressing or dark as TDK. Go see the movie already! :woot:

I will but I am unbelievably snowed with work.

Might even hafta turn the internet off. :(
