Yup. Bale's acting (to me) is clearly part of how they wanted to interpret Bruce. Different characters call for different types of acting. Sometimes it seems people were expecting him to do a loud type of performance (like Patrick Batemen) for Bruce when that wouldn't work. He balanced Heath's acting nicely IMO. The subtleties that he did particularly when he was Batman was amazing to me. That scene with him, Oldman and Eckhart was just brilliance all around.

I agree on all points.

What makes the Batman mythology so great though is that Batman/Bruce can take a back seat and let other characters shine. I understand people wanting Batman to be the centre of attentions always, but the wealth of supporting characters leads to alternate and possibly greater story telling opportunities that should never be overlooked. Batman isn't just Bruce Wayne, it's an entire city of people. I've never really understood the notion that TDK doesn't feel like a Batman film when some of the character's most well known comic stories have him taking a back seat.

Guys, I love how this movie feels very different from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Cant wait to see it!

Exactly. That's why I think some feel that TDK didn't feel like a Batman film in many ways.

It just didn't focus on Bruce and Bruce as Bats enough. Everything always felt more involved with the characters around Bruce/Bats rather than him.l
I never understood this thought that TDK wasn't about Bruce the entire film revolved on him as a man being broken. His ascension being in TDKR of course.

First thing I noticed about the trailer is that it once again feels different. It's going to be very interesting to watch these films back to back, the only comparison I can think of recently where a set of films felt different from each other and yet worked as a whole was Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2.

I think (or at least it feels like, and maybe some time tomorrow I'll pop in my disks and do the math) Gordon, Scarecrow, and Ra's had less screen time or dialogue than their equivalents in TDK. (For this I'm leaving Batman/Bruce Wayne out; I'm not comparing Bale/stunt double screen/dialogue time in the two films, just what surrounds it.) TDK was more of an ensemble effort, while BB was the Christian Bale show. It's like comparing a plateau (TDK) to a peak with some hills surrounding it (BB). Even if it's wrong to assume what I've just previously wrote, there were very intense personal arcs for the lives of Gordon and Harvey Dent, and those weren't in Batman Begins to that extent. Someone could point at Rachel and Gordon but just barely, but it doesn't compare to what happens to them in TDK.

It's late and I have a headache I ought to take something for.

If I may jump in:

Great points. I'm so tired of people saying, "He was wooden. Joker was so much better, blah, blah, blah..."
There has to be a balance.
Also, I got the feeling Bruce was no longer having fun playing the idiot playboy.

Yes.

Also, his stuff with Rachel about a day without Batman, and trying to kibosh her and Dent's dates seemed like he was selfishly trying to cling to the last fragments of his childhood. When Rachel told Bruce that "they wouldn't let us be together" after confiding in her his plan to reveal himself, she sounded as if she knew she were talking to a delusional man.

TDK was totally about Bruce/ Batman for sure, but it was much more of an Ensemble movie. Everyone had fairly equal time. So I can see what people mean when they say that.

What I hate is when people say TDK is Jokers movie. That's BS. Heaths performance was the best so it overshadowed some of the others but it's not hard to see that if TDK is anybody but Bruce's movie, its Dent. The whole character arc of Dent is probably the most important of the whole trilogy besides Bruce/ Batman. How could people miss that?

Regardless of that though, Batman, Dent, Joker, and Gordon all get pretty equal time and the movie is about all of them.

This kind of seems to close the door on the sewer vs. cave topic...yet the discussion has gone on for three more pages... :awesome:

What about that bit in the prologue where Bane hits the button on what I believe is a detonator of some sort? It looks to me like he's in the same place as in the picture and video of the first fight.

Yes there is water coming down on the right where he sets the detonator off. I think a beaten Batman could get flushed away by whatever that wall is holding back.

I'll concede to the fact that it was an ensemble film but still to me the root of the story always seemed to be Bruce and his interactions and how the choices he made effected those around him. The megalomaniac that kind of called him out on his hypocricies was more of a side story that tied into the fact that Bruce couldn't be every thing for every one. He had to make a choice. It was totally a Batman/Bruce film at it's heart.

Yep. Agreed.

When we finally find out if it's a sewer or cave, it'll be a great day on the Hype. I think it's a sewer though, because if it's the batcave, you think Nolan would have mentioned it in an interview. I think it's a sewer.

I wonder if we will get answers with the third trailer? Hopefully.

Have anyone read the article from CBM stating that Ryan Reynolds will take over the role as Batman and that Duncan Jones will be directing. This is a joke, right? Jones is cool, but Reynolds?

As a rule, everything from CBM is false. The few times they have something correct, are the exceptions that proves this rule.

^ Potentially anytime between the 16th and 27th.

That's cool. Who's in the audience? Regular people or just people in the business?

Funny little paragraph:
"And US film giant Warner Bros has made it known that its latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises by Christopher Nolan, starring Marion Cotillard - is finished, well ahead of its July 19 release date".

It says STARRING Marion Cotillard... True, she's in it, yes. But WHY are they naming her as the only one? Shouldn't it have said, Starring Christian Bale? lame.

i dont think they will screen it. you have to understand. TDKR is one of the 3 movies that will 100% make a big profit this year. they spend way to much time on NOT having leaks. spoiling the story 2 months before the movie comes out when you know that everyone wants to see it? if you screen the movie the story will come out. you can not prevent this

They mention her to stress the possibility of TDKR showing up in Cannes (which I highly doubt) because it's a French film festival and Marion is French and a big star in France, that's why:whatever:
