What the heck is going on at RT? Kirk Honeycutt of the Hollywood reporter, submitted a mixed review that showed up negative. It then was changed to positive, but he lost his top critic status?

His review wasn't mixed. It was rather very positive. 9/10.

His review wasnt mixed at all. Im pretty sure someone said it was a 9/10

That review isn't mixed at all. Did you read it? He said this is arguably the best trilogy in popular cinema and that no one will be able to follow in Nolan's footsteps. That's about as far from mixed as can be. His rating at Rotten Tomatoes is listed as a 9/10. He doesn't work for Hollywood Reporter anymore, so that's why he's not listed as a Top Critic.

Sounds like people were trolling RT so now they're trolling in return.

Sticking the landing on a trilogy is rare, no matter the genre.

I'm pretty much left with Apur Sansar, Return of the King, and... I'm at a loss.

The fact that you've just referenced the Apu trilogy on the bat board, makes you my favourite person on the board today.

I would argue, after the dust has settled, that Return of the King, along with the Two Towers, hasn't aged well at all.

The masterwork of that trilogy was always The Fellowship of the Ring.

It's off-topic, but while I like the trilogy as a whole very much, I agree that Fellowship is the strongest of the three movies.

There will be more negative reviews, I'd expect about 10-15 more (maybe) so the RT score will probably lounge about the 80's all week, then after the film comes out and the reviews reach 200 or so, the positives usually smother the negative and it will reach 92-94% something like that.

I'm so proud to say that I've been saying this since the release of The Return of the King. Finally, people are seeing the light :yay:

Bourne Ultimatum. Toy Story 3. And you're right, it's really rare. But this genre in particular has been extremely frustrating because we've had some franchises that had a chance to pull it off and then failed miserably.

Superman - 2 great movies and a terrible movie.
Batman '89 - 2 great movies and a terrible movie.
Blade - 2 great movies and a terrible movie.
X-Men - 2 great movies and a terrible movie.
Spider-Man - 2 great movies and a terrible movie.

All of these franchises were set up for a chance to pull it off and then for whatever reason (THE CURSE), it all fell apart.

Forgot Toy Story 3. Definitely.

The weird thing about the Bourne movies is that while I enjoyed them when watching, I couldn't tell you anything about them. They were all just kinetic heart-thumping, but I attached to them in no way.

X3 was a debacle, but I never dug Singer's take anyway.

I think even if this film has some of the things I don't like about Nolan pushed to trilogy-mad excess, I'm gonna enjoy it and it'll end up on the rare list.

The last half hour, from Boromir's scuffle with Frodo to Aragorn gearing up what's left of the Fellowship to find the Hobbits, still makes me tear up. :was:

Truly beautiful, and I'm honestly hoping The Hobbit lives up to it.

Could someone point me in the direction of the highest quality version of the IMAX midnight screening poster?

Are you talking about the one with the "bat-symbol" eyes, or the black and white Bane one?

So, the consensus at RT is TDKR is a great conclusion to the trilogy, just not quite as great as TDK. I knew it was a possibility, without The Joker. But to hell with this, it still goes out as the first truly accomplished superhero film trilogy and one of the greatest Hollywood trilogies of all time.

Last off topic but I've been saying this since that trilogy ended; the Fellowship of the Ring, especially in extended form, is the best fantasy film since the original Star Wars film. Period. End of discussion. That film is so elegant in structure, pace, action, visual effects, and emotion that it makes the indulgence of the last two films almost laughable.

I will go to my grave screaming this because I think Jackson and company got a pass on those last two films, on the strength of what they did in the Fellowship of the Ring.

I mean, it's not even close. You can feel the fatigue in those final two films, compared to Fellowship. That baby sings.

I like the RT summary, except the fact it compares TDKR to TDK once again. And it's trying to be subjective, but it's definitely suggesting TDK was better.

I'd add Indiana Jones into the group of successful trilogies/3rd films, personally.

It won't just for the simple fact that Jackson feels the need to cut that story into two films and possibly a third.

It's Towers and King all over again. But, you'll never know it. Talk about a set of films that are about to get a pass....just watch.

I dunno... I always appreciated the LOTR trilogy, and I think ROTK is a good film, but I never really liked it.

It almost seems like they're basing it on the actual percentage, which sucks, because it's definitely subject to change before the end of the weekend.

Any reactions from the chicago screening? Shouldnt it be done by now?
