I dont see how Interstellar was dull. In Imax especially, it was a visual feast. An engaging story, a score that gave me goosebumps and pretty emotional characters/acting. It's almost everything i love about film. I had that same feeling when i saw Birdman and Whiplash even though they were smaller films and a completely different genre.

Interstellar was Nolan's style over substance. Storywise it wasn't anything special. I saw it in IMAX as well and even that gave me problems. Sure, the action was great, but there was nothing that made me wanna see it again like Birdman or Whiplash..or even The Raid 2.

I only saw your post now, sorry about that!

I hope the new movies interest me once i see some trailers. I dont mind Cyborg in the Justice League, i think it's fine move (not that i would hate Martian Manhunter added instead) but John Stewart should get a movie before Cyborg. I see a Green Lantern movie with Hal training John and then the universe continues with Stewart. But there's a rumor that WB has plans for Stewart which is why they wont let television use him. If that's the case, it's possible Ezra Miller is playing Wally West and Green lantern will be John in Justice League. Maybe they've had enough with Hal?

I think some of those characters you list could potentially have their own spots on television but im not too sure about the films.

I really liked Fury and everyone was great in it, Shia especially. It gives me hope for Suicide Squad but what doesn't is the casting. I feel like i only care about the Joker/Harley situation. Let's be honest, she's probably leaving the Squad or she's playing them all along. So the actual "Suicide Squad" portion of the film is not looking great to me. I've been bored with Will Smith since I Am Legend. That was the last thing he did that locked me in. I think i was more pumped to see Hardy square off in scenes with Will but now that's gone.

Wonder Woman can be truly great and so can Batman but im not sure about the rest.

Don't worry about it. :)

Yeah, those comments have gotten my hopes up about him being in there. I can see marketing wise why DC might go that way as well, to very clearly separate the new Green Lantern from the Ryan Reynolds disaster.

True, I think two of them at least would probably be better off on TV. I was just listing a few that came to mind at the time. Though two of them I also think film is the better place for them.

The Harley/Joker stuff is the big interest point for me as well and I won't be surprised if they do a twist ala Assault on Arkham in the third act. In fact, I will be more surprised if they don't go that direction with it.

I may get some crap for this, but the man is a style-over-substance director

I love style over substance directors. Providing they make thoroughly entertaining films.

Matthew Vaughn is a style over substance director, but he makes good films.

Guy Ritchie is another one. He also made some entertaining romps.

Their films work top to bottom, on their own terms.

Snyder doesn't know how to make a cohesive film if his life dependent on it. He makes exceedingly well crafted single scenes. But they rarely fit together into a satisfying whole.

Style over substance? It's about a father and daughter at the core of the story. A pretty powerful thing. I choked up at least 3 times in the movie and im not even a father. And there was a message there to inspire others to create. Nolan just used space exploration as his way to get that point across. Dont look back, look forward and invent. I was moved by both of those elements. I cant say the same for most of the films i see coming out of Hollywood.

2001 and Contact says hi? And the father and daughter stuff was the main dull aspect of the movie.

...and I know you're gonna respond to this because you apparently can't help it.

Well ill respectfully disagree cuz i feel the exact opposite. There were influences from 2001 sure but it felt like its own thing.

Ummm so you just expect people to not respond when you say something to them? Weird..

I'd say Dawn of the Dead and 300 were pretty cohesive. And while MOS and Watchmen aren't particularly as close-knit as other films out there, I still really liked both. In fact, I like most of his movies even if they don't achieve everything he originally intended.

Interstellar has some clear influences, yes (way more movies than just 2001 and Contact, btw). I'm not sure how that equates to style over substance though? No movie is wholly original, you're always influenced by something. Not enjoying the film is one thing, but I'm not exactly sure how a movie having some familiar elements automatically translates to a lack of substance. Doesn't seem like a sound argument to me. I see The Right Stuff, Close Encounters, 2001, Contact, Apollo 13...a whole bunch of stuff, but Interstellar is very much its own animal too.

Side note, Interstellar is playing in AMC theaters next Saturday with 12 minutes of additional footage. First time Nolan's ever shown deleted scenes, I think.

Maybe there's a glimmer of hope for an extended TDKR cut down the line? :awesome:

All I'm saying is if I need someone to filibuster, I'm gonna call you first. :oldrazz:

When you're caught with a stupid comment, out comes the gifs or video responses. Mature.

Or find excuses for any criticism.

Oh, Batlobster, I'm sure you remember my rants about wanting a longer cut of TDKR. Don't be like Bane and give me false hopes to poison my soul!

But really, this is a big deal for Nolan to be showing a film of his with extended footage. I can't wait to see Interstellar again. I'm still not sure how much I liked the film because I've only seen it once and it was quite the experience.

I think I spoke too soon. Apparently the extra footage is just behind the scenes footage. :csad:

I've poisoned both of our souls I'm afraid. For this I am sorry.

I don't see us getting an extended cut anytime soon. It's just not the way Nolan rolls. He's stated multiple times whatever makes it in the film is the film, and believes anything else would be cheating the audience. I mean, he doesn't even like adding after-credit scenes (he stated so himself).

I don't fulyl agree with the logic, but I do think it's a noble opinion on his part. If only Lucas could adopt that mindset.

I didn't like Interstellar, to me it was Nolan's worst film since The Prestige which is really disappointing considering I expected something as good as Inception.

The Prestige was a complete work of genius. Definitely Nolan's most underrated work.

Well, i thought Inception was better than TDK and felt Interstellar was also better than TDK but that's just me.
