He's probably miffed Nolan bettered his novel in the translation to the screen.

You're all gonna LOVE how hilarious and stupid this comment is from him regarding Interstellar. This proves the guy is an actual moron, on Lloyd Christmas levels:

Anyone knows the reality. The ‘surrounding noise’ of space is silent. Space is a vacuum – it is incapable of carrying sound. How Hans Zimmer’s loud music can be heard in space is a mystery only Nolan can explain.

I laughed so hard. He's either ******ed, trolling, or simply has a huge beef with Nolan.

You shouldn´t make fun of him. He is obviously ******ed, but that´s not his fault.

That...sounds pretty ****ing dumb. Yeah. It's like...what ?

This is the guy who wrote The Prestige novel? Hard to believe. He's probably jealous Nolan's Prestige got more acclaim than his novel.

He has to be trolling. At least I hope so. :funny:

He's not a moron, he's just doesn't have a well-informed opinion. His comments betray a lack of understanding of the genre that colours a lot of opinions of those who don't read superhero comics. It's easy to assume they are just loud and colourful because, well, the large majority of them are. It's not a correct assumption, but that's okay; I don't expect everyone to be familiar with comics and I certainly don't expect everyone to have a robust knowledge of broad audiences they can be designed to appeal to.

My only expectation is that someone who doesn't read the genre probably shouldn't be making statements like that about it.

People aren't calling his opinion of the Batman movies dumb, it was his statement about how Interstellar's loud score shouldn't be audible in space that's getting that reaction.

But I really think that had to be some lame attempt at humor. He can't have his head that far up his own ***. :funny:

Actually no, he's a moron.

Me and a friend were talking about this and it piqued my interest. We often talk about how much money an actor makes for doing a film (Contracts, percentage of merchandise profits, etc), but we never hear about the director.

Just how much do you think Nolan would have been offered for Batman Begins? Is it ultimately dependant on how the movie performs and would he see a slice of any DVD/Blu-Ray sales?

Would he have been given an after the fact ''bonus'' so to speak for the phenomenal success of The Dark Knight?

Basically, how much money will Nolan see from his The Dark Knight Trilogy moving forward?

Probably a lot but only for TDKR (after TDK exploded) especially if his deal was not a 3-pic deal. I'm sure he asked for % of the profits and merchandising on top of the front end pay. There was a THR article that said that Nolan can now command $20M for a film (so it's probaby that amount + backend) but I'm guessing he only got a few hundreds of thousands at most for BB and TDK (which is the standard for directors that are not A-listers).

I highly doubt he got hundreds of thousands for either of those movies. A director of his caliber doesn´t make that kind of money. I´d be very surprised if he got less than 4 M for those movies. Tarantino is making around 30 M, so i don´t see Nolan making only hundreds of thousands.

Nolan is an indie director when he signed on to BB (I'd say he fits the bolded part at that time in the article below). He's not yet a household name either when he did TDK although obviously he got more than when he did BB. His stock has been steadily increasing with each film but it only skyrocketed after TDK.

Here's the THR article I mentioned about director's salaries:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-salaries-revealed-movie-stars-737321

FILM DIRECTOR $250K-$20M A PICTURE
"The middle range doesn't exist anymore," one studio executive says of the current financial landscape for feature film directors. "Either you're paying for a modern master, or you're paying a lot less. The days of paying $3 million or $4 million, knowing they're just doing the job, that doesn't exist."

The going rate for modern masters? Between $7 million and $10 million for auteurs like Paul Greengrass and Ridley Scott, more if the film is considered a tentpole. Christopher Nolan is said to have made $20 million against 20 percent of gross for Interstellar. Backend is otherwise rare these days for the non-A-list.

On the other end of the scale, emerging directors can expect $250,000 to $500,000 for their first big studio feature, but there are exceptions (one European auteur was said to have recently have been paid $1 million for his first Hollywood blockbuster).

I imagine he got ridiculous amounts of money for Rises , Inception and Interstellar. The others not so much.

It's the cool thing to crap on Nolan these days (despite his continued success with Interstellar). Everybody does it. Yesterday I read a Facebook post about how the producers of the Lego Movie and the upcoming Lego Batman Movie got Nolan's "blessing" to parody his Batman moving forward.

The responses were typically frustrating.

"Who cares??"

"Nolan is a pretentious tool. He didn't invent Batman!"

"Nolan ruined Batman. Worse than Schumacher's movies!"

etc. etc. etc.

I really had to dig for a positive comment. And there were something like 300 responses. But then again, this Facebook page is centered around comic book movie adaptations and those types of movie fans are incredibly anti-Nolan nowadays.

Yep, same on the comment sections on any nerd-news site out there that reported on the story. Without fail every other comment was, "Nolan doesn't own Batman, roar roar roar!, etc."

I've recently come to accept that an unfortunately large portion of Bat-fans out there are self-deluded morons. Militant and unwavering in their thickheaded-ness.

Nothing unites a fanbase like negativity though. Not that positivity doesn't, but negativity is a nice "catch all" way to unite a large group of people that probably have lots of smaller disagreements about the character and mythology. Most of us are guilty of it too, for all those years bashing the Schumacher films. Eventually though, you grow out of that childish behavior and learn to be more accepting of different interpretations of the character for different eras. You appreciate the history. Not the case for most of these idiots though. They'll never change, never become self-aware about how ridiculous they are. And the pattern will keep repeating itself.

I really hope the Lego-Batman movie has some sort of satire on fanboyism, ala the Bat-Mite episode of The Brave and The Bold. But more in depth. In fact I hope the overriding theme of the movie is that all the different Batmans can co-exist.

This Prestige guy has obviously never heard of diagetic and non-diagetic sound in film. :o

Diagetic...what a pretentious, Nolan-ish word to use. I'm pretty sure that word is riddled with plot holes too. :o

And they completely missed the fact that the producers went to Chris out of respect. It's not like Nolan stuck his nose out there and said, "Here's what I think you should do." This crap has gotten worse since he dared to criticize (not really) the mighty Marvel Studios movie machine.

The people that rail against the realism in Nolan's Batman movies are the same people who dislike the Daniel Craig Bond movies. "Where are the fantastic gadgets? Why is Bond so solemn? Where's the easy-going charm?"

God forbid a writer/filmmaker give a character pathos and legit personal conflict.

That's why I kind of have a hard time as seeing it as anything more than plain stupidity and childishness. It's just the willful twisting of something so you can b**** about it. You would think the article was titled "Nolan Demands Lego Producers Run their Ideas by Him, Claims to be a Deity that Owns the Character". :funny:

Miller and Lord were just showing a simple courtesy, and he's not the only person they consulted with. This kind of excites me more for the Lego-Bat movie though, because I have a feeling it's gonna delve pretty deeply into the differences between all the cinematic Bat-Men rather than a few easy jokes. That could be a lot of fun.

It's actually really sad how nearly every thread you go into around here there is someone (it's usually the same people) are having some dig at Nolan or his movies. It's like the man's popularity and success has pissed in their corn flakes and they can't stand it.

Ha, yeah, it's pretty lame. It's kind of inevitable that there would be backlash after such heights of popularity, but it's kind of funny how hard some are trying to push in that direction- oblivious that by being so laughably furious that they're just going to accelerate the inevitable backlash against the backlash.

It's all a ridiculously vicious cycle, but sad/funny when you take a step back from it.

It's mostly the Batman stuff that elicits the negative responses. I'm actually hard-pressed to find negativity surrounding Interstellar. Surprisingly.

It really perpetuates the negative reputation of comic book movie fans. Spoiled. Fickle. Entitled.
