Aw, poor Val hahaha.
and I would have liked to have seen him in a better balanced Batman film.
Who else thinks the from the moment Batman saves Gordon to when he gives Selina Kyle the Batpod is the best stretch of Batman-performance ever for Christian Bale? The scene where he instructs Blake after saving him is goosebump worthy. His body language, eyes, even the voice is perfect here. Further credit goes to Wally Pfister for lighting Bale in way where you can only see his eyeballs within the wide abyss of darkness that is the rest of his cowl.
The way Bale as Batman looked at people and spoke with his eyes was something that I always was a fan of in the whole trilogy. That's something I love about him as an actor period but especially when he was Batman.

^ Agreed. I love Bruce's earnestness when he's in the car with Blake, telling him about the idea that Batman could be anybody. There's such a sincerity in Bale's deliveries throughout the trilogy, and especially in TDKR.
One of the reasons I don't like the white lenses in live action.

That's actually one of my biggest worries with 'Fleck. His eyes are not as expressive as either Keaton or Bale's. That's an either you have it or you don't thing. Could detract from his performance both in and out of the cowl for me.
I would love to be proven wrong though. And no, that clip from the trailer didn't convince me of anything. Loved the hair though.
It will be interesting to see how they will incorporate the white lenses in Deadpool.
Yeah even in the performances he's had lately they're not as expressive. That works for the character he played in Gone Girl and it added to what that character went through, but that one closeup of him looking at the batsuit didn't really put my mind at ease. Unfortunately my mind flashed to Bale looking at his suit and Keaton looking out with the bat signal light behind him. I kept saying stop it brain!
Those are great moments, and how I like to interpret the film and Bruce's arc in it is that when You see Batman earlier in the film it was Bruce basically pretending to be Batman and trying to remember how to be him, and at that moment there is no pretending. That's not Bruce wearing a suit, but the true Batman right in everyone's face.

LOL same.
And yeah georgec I loved how visceral Bale's Batman was at times. Batman gritting his teeth is such an iconic image from the comics and I feel like we never saw much of that until Bale came along.
I don't even SEE Christian Bale here (the gif is hilarious though I know lol):
