Yeah, the newspaper bit in that trailer didn't work for me either. There's a big gap between Bale and Affleck as far as acting goes. Affleck's not bad but Bale's a much better actor.

Wow, I thought I was nuts when I almost laughed at that newspaper bit. I didn't mean to either it just happened.

Yeah, definitely not just you. It's a bit goofy.

Bale had a lot of subtle inflections in his face when he conveyed anger or rage. Most notably in the "Will to Act" scene from BB.

Funny you mention that, I was just going to post this pic as a comparison:

The one I was really looking for was the one after Ra's knocks him down, but couldn't find it. Such a range in that scene alone.

Heh, I gotta admit that stare is a bit goofy, no subtlety to it. However, I'm really looking forward to Affleck's Batman so hopefully he (and Snyder) can deliver a good performance.

Yeah, I'm not saying Affleck is doomed by any stretch. It certainly looks like he's going to make a beast Batman, so he'll have that going for him at the very least.

I just think every version of the character is going to have their pros and cons. Bale will always get made fun of for the voice, for instance.

You guys are dead on. The newspaper clip is funny. Yet, the shot of him staring at the batsuit is pretty good. I also like the look he gives Diana (even though i bet it's not even her he's looking at in the movie). My God that newspaper though :hehe:

Bale laying in bed with all that emotion showing in his face. Mahhh lawwwd. Amazing actor. Ben is not even in the same ballpark as him or Keaton. But i agree BatLobster, Affleck will have the size, that fan-gasm suit..

Bale will always be made fun of for the voice but i bet Affleck gets heat for his acting. I just rewatched Gone Girl, and even though i thought he did a good job in the more playful scenes during interrogation (and i guess some of the physical stuff towards the end), i thought he was still same ol' wooden & flat Ben Affleck in many scenes. He was entertaining in that movie, in a weird way, maybe it's because how goofy the character was. But he's still Ben being Ben, and i can't shake that off even while watching the Batman vs Superman trailer. He looks so good in the suit, and that hair/chin is very Bruce Wayne don't get me wrong. But are we going to get the same old **** from him?? I really hope he transforms, at the very least while he's in the suit.

Anyways, im sure ill like it a lot. Bale is still the better actor however, and he'll always be my Bruce Wayne because of his performance. Good actors can pull off subtlety with ease.

BTW, The Town is still the best thing i've seen from Ben. Maybe it's because he directed it. Argo too. This gives me hope for Ben's performance for the solo film.

I think Ben being Ben is probably why I liked him in Gone Girl so much. I think that fit the character. I like him the most when he's either playing Regular guys or total *****es. And I'm a big fan of Director Ben. Big fan.

What I don't get is, if Snyder was gonna go for an older Bats, why not choose John Hamn? Ben looks good, but I can imagine John being even better.

Jon Hamm would've crushed it as Batman. I think Affleck could be good in the role, but I do think Hamm would've been better.

Like Bale, Jon Hamm is great at subtle acting, too.

Sadly, I don't think a superhero role is something he'd be interested in.

Hamm was already one of the guys in the ambiguously gay duo, which is a superhero role. :o

I can't see Hamm pulling off Batman. He's a genius (or obvious, you pick) choice for Bruce Wayne. I still believe Brolin would have been a good choice. Or, interesting at least.

Ben may have surprised us all, but when you break it down, he actually was a safe choice. His directing abilities, his win for Best Picture at the time, he played a masked superhero/vigilante in the past, his height and general look fits Bruce Wayne. He's not a better actor than Josh Brolin, who was the first choice. He's not as good as Hamm, Bale etc. He's fine when he's given good material, but acting and quality doesn't seem to be the priority. The visual, and how safe it is to choose a guy like Ben Affleck nowadays...that seemed to be the priority. It's not a horrible choice, there could have been worse. But it's really not a heartfelt choice in my opinion.

Brolin would do the unhinged, on the edge of going too far, paranoid Millersque Batman to perfection.

Exactly. He may not be as tall as Affleck. He may not have towered over Cavill's Superman. Im not even sure if he would be a good public Bruce. But he would kill it as private Bruce and definitely as Batman. I can even hear his voice.

Maybe Ben was the best choice for a shared universe. But if they wanted to go with solo films only, Miller style, Brolin would have destroyed, now that i think of it.

Do you guys feel that TDKT has etched itself into the fabric of pop culture? Or do you think it will vanish from the public conscious?

The former. Popularity will wane for a while in the face of a more...traditional Batman with all the super powered beings and such, but I feel it'll be one that will be looked back on fondly, especially in the era of never ending franchises that we've entered. Heath's Joker alone feels like he's secured the trilogy a spot in pop culture, if nothing else.

I think this is the moment you are thinking of:

I bloody love that scene!

Well, Bale is on another level as an actor, so you shouldn't really be surprised by him being better than Ben Affleck at conveying emotions. It's like Bentley and Renault right there. Renault is decent, but c'mon...

We've also only seen like a handful of out-of-context shots of Affleck as Bruce from trailers, and we haven't even had a clear shot from footage of him as Batman (in his normal suit).

It's pretty hard to judge or make comparisons at this point.

Whenever I watch American Psycho, I always think of the fact that Christian Bale really could have played The Joker. He could have pulled it off easily, and his Joker would have been nuts.

I really feel like that should go without saying. No offense to Affleck but c'mon.

Same with Keaton.

EDIT: Just saw Jokers response!

It will always be respected, ultimately merging into the great ocean that is 'Batman' - along with the 66 show, the Burton flicks and BTAS.

Exactly. Bale is leagues ahead of Affleck as an actor. Based on everything we've seen of Affleck in BvsS so far, he isn't going to be half as good at expressing emotions. Bale was always good at that. From the big moments like when he's watching Chill in court, to the subtler ones like when he says "It wasn't" when Two Face asks why he was the only one who lost everything. You could always see that inner pain in his facial expressions.

Same with Keaton.

My response?
