The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

100%. And you could definitely argue that his influence was more for the positive on the whole than Miller's was.
I agree. Miller fans thought love the edge he brought but it was a little to much

The Nokia tdkr trailer is still my favorite. Probably best trailer ever to me. Sad about Denny. I’ll have to go back and read his best issues
The Nokia trailer was cool but way too long and almost gave away the entire movie.

The bane scene of him kneeling down and killing captain jones with his knee got so much creepier. It’s disturbing how relevant tdkr is this year

Yeah. I've been meaning to rewatch Rises because I'm doing a trilogy run-through with friends, but I've been a little hesitant because of that scene. There are so many things in the film that are eerily prescient right now. The depiction of blatant demagoguery. The imagery of deserted streets and police warfare. The Nolans took much of those ideas from the French revolution (by way of Dickens), so it may speak more to the truth that societal unrest is not exclusive to this country or this crapshoot of a year.

Yep it’s amazing how Nolan made superhero films that are so connected to and critical of real life. Right now watching tdkr could probably be a little maybe not traumatic but unnerving

It’s weird seeing people turn Bane into a cultural icon online. extreme Right wingers loved him at first but now extreme Left love him as well. People are saying he’s the true hero of the movie by making a uprising and bringing true justice to the rich and police. People like his plan without remembering it’s all fake and he’s gonna blow Gotham hell to make a point to the world. When both extremes like him but misinterpret his plan it’s scary. Same with people looking up to thanos and joker

I wish people recoding audience reactions was a bigger thing back when tdkr and tdk came out. I’ve heard they were just as loud as endgames and infinity war reactions it just would’ve been nice to see them. Maybe when the trilogy gets rereleased We will have some. Even if it’s from China or India Or hopefully hear.

My theaters reaction to TDK was insane. There was applause at so many scenes, I remember how quiet the theater was whenever the Joker was on screen. In particular, the hostage video tape scene had my theater so quiet that after the Joker laughs, you could hear a pin drop. I remember a round of applause when the tractor trailer was flipped and when bats turned the bat pod. At the end of the film, it got a standing ovation.

My theater went bananas at all the right moments. That midnight premier was something else. There was already energy surrounding the place, the news here in Montreal interviewing us beforehand. People dressed up. Still the best theater experience I ever had.

Midnight screening at the Lincoln Square NYC IMAX. Nothing has come close to that energy since, although TDKR came pretty close. Different vibe though-- looking around and realizing that you're surrounded by grown men crying. It was more bittersweet, while TDK was just pure electricity. I had the same experience in NY shauner, with the news interviewing us. Man, such good times.

I think one aspect of the whole experience that can't be replaced in modern day with reserved seating, is the waiting in line all day. I waited on line with my friends for 11 hours. It was super annoying on one hand, but on the other hand you got to actually hang out and geek out with other fans who were just as pumped as you. Sitting around, talking Batman, counting down the hours and minutes really heightened the anticipation to a ridiculous degree.

I also had a pretty great experience with the TDK prologue in December 2007. I've probably told this story before on here so forgive me, but me and a few other fans were told by a WP rep that Jonathan Nolan was there and gave us a heads up to wait in the lobby for a while after the screening. Sure enough, about 20 minutes later we see him on his way out, literally carrying out the IMAX reel himself. He was cool enough to stay and chat with us for a while after the WB rep told him we'd been waiting. Just super nice and down to Earth (and freaking tall). The whole experience was just so cool, because the WB rep did not have to tell us that, and Jonah did not have to stay behind. It was a special time. There was this unmistakable feeling in the air that something special was happening, and they were sharing it with the fans in a way that felt personal, before it went on to become a global phenomenon. It really hit home the idea for me that these movies were just two brothers' dream projects that happened to be backed by a major studio with 200 million dollar budgets. That moment felt like the equivalent of seeing a band in a tiny venue and hanging out with them after the show, just before they released a hit single that blew up.

I just like sharing that story because I think there's this perception out there than the Nolans were cold to fanboy culture or thought they were above it or w/e, but I think it's somewhat of a misconception. I think they made the movies personal and obviously made their own artistic choices, but they definitely wanted it to connect with the fans. Jonah was clearly very excited and humbled to see how excited the fans were and that their take was resonating with people that night. Just cause they didn't do Comic Con panels didn't mean they didn't care.

You guys had the good experiences. I saw tdk at some kind of corporate retreat theatre showing the day before it came out. Crowd was okay. Same with tdkr. I give anything to see the reaction of a full theatre to tdkr ending I bet it would be euphoric. Both the jokers bank opening and bane sewer fight were dead silent in my showings it was eerie

For those of you who haven't had a chance to check out the trilogy in 4k yet, this is a pretty nice sampling of how the new transfers look. The edit isn't anything special, but definitely shows off some of the best shots. I recently upgraded and have been enjoying the crap out of it. 89 and Returns for that matter too look absolutely fantastic in 4k.

I own all 3 in 4k and man, they truly do look phenomenal. In fact, all of Nolans movies are the best 4k looking movies you can get. Recently purchased Dunkirk and Interstellar and I'm blown away.

I still gotta pick up the burton movies, but i did rent them and they looked astonishing as well.

Yup, I recently picked up Dunkirk and Interstellar too, and it's just ridiculous. The IMAX 70mm stuff just translates so amazingly to 4k releases.

I have heard that Joker is a top tier 4k release as well, but haven't checked it out yet as I haven't felt the urge to rewatch the film.

Molossus still goes hard in the paint 15 years later.
