The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - Part 156

The Burton Bat film openings are pretty great. I definitely don’t see that working today, though.

...89 frustrated me as a kid, but loved Returns. The crescendo with the title, the bats, and drums/horns - sexy.

Surprised more films didn't do the neat title unfurl/roll out they do in that.

The opening to '89 was tedious for me - it wasn't visually interesting enough and I couldn't wait to get past it.

The opening to Returns is my favourite opening to a Batman film, ever. When music builds and the title scrolls and the bats flutter out = perfection.

I love the Nolan openings.

The crackling ice bat-symbol may be my favourite of his. I want to say the bats forming it in Begins are my favourite, but I'm not sure.

I didn't care as much for the blue smoke of the second film.

But the crackling ice....something about it. I just wish Gordon's voice didn't intrude over the crackling.

TDK oddly had the best version of their bat, in the teaser with the crumbling of the background - showing Joker's destruction upon Gotham.

It's amazing what 'teaser trailer' meant back in 2007.

I remember the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets being a voiceover and a shot of Dobby.

Then I go watch the 'teaser trailer' for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - and it's just a trailer, full-stop.

Teaser trailers used to mean a literal tease and you barely saw anything.

But, the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something.

I've looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows.

And, there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me.

I still wish that was left in Begins.

Glad I'm not the only one who appreciates the great music build and rad title "unfurling" reveal for Returns. It left such an impression on me as a kid.

However, I will say that as a whole I do prefer Elfman's main title march in '89. It just hits a bit harder with those snares.

Apparently that was never from the film. I believe Jonah Nolan said that he wrote that all specifically for the teaser in a Reddit AMA.

The Begins video game had more of Bruce's narration (The Batman style), I'm guessing Jonah wrote all of that as well.

The Begins video game was hella atmospheric and a really solid Batman game.

And it did a lot of stuff that had to have inspired the Arkham games.
I've always wanted a Halloween game, take BB's fear meter meets Hitman, within a 12x12 block neighborhood w/ full interiors of houses.

You get to stalk and scare people and have to get them scared enough to 'strike'

All the promos for The Dark Knight Trilogy were sublime.

But THIS trailer was something else:

I was HYPED! Ah good times... hard to believe this movie will be turning 15 this year. I'm literally teaching teenagers not yet born when this movie came out and don't know the first thing about it. Where does the time go?

Oh man! That's brutal. I have an idea for an extra credit assignment you can give them. :oldrazz:

I have such specific memories of that trailer myself...

I was in my senior year of college, living in a dumpy off-campus house a few of my best friends. December 07. We were all on the hype train for the movie. It was winter break, but we decided to all stay at the house for a few weeks before classes started in January. I will always look back fondly on the vibe of us just sitting around hanging, playing a lot of Halo 3, the glow of a dinky Christmas tree lighting the room at night, and just gathering around my laptop to watch that trailer over and over again. It was such a great time. If there was any movie lead-up I wish I could relive, it would easily be TDK.

Still get chills at "Let's put a smile on that face..." into the the title reveal.

I've considered uploading the bootleg version of this trailer I still have on my hard drive, that was filmed in a dark theater in Nov. 2007 by someone and uploaded in terrible quality.

I really, really wish Nolan had kept continued with the type of theatricality he used in Begins, like the swarm of bats.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen that trailer in 15 years! So epic.

There are other instances of that, depending on your definition of theatricality. The use of sonar in Knight and the EMP in Rises for instance.

This trailer is epic.

Though it highlights my only real issue with Rises - too much of it takes place in the daytime.

Okay, did anyone else think it was Alfred who said "Rise." in this trailer?

He's out of focus, older with white hair, and it sounded a lot like My Cocaine, to me. I was speculating so hard how Alfred wound up in prison with Bruce.

“First of all, he's gorgeous. He's got that f*cking jawline, and he didn't give a f*ck. He threw his body around. He was so full.” -Majors [on Ledger]

(Don't be put off by the title, this is just what the channel titles all the videos)

Cool video. One thing though, as a massive Gaga fan, I have never ever heard that she was ever considered for Catwoman in this. Seems really strange since she wasn’t really acting at all in 2011.

I love those kind of retrospective videos, though. It’s nice to go back to such a specific time and be reminded of details we’ve forgotten about.

IMHO the best cbm trailer ever... the theme's crescendo along the feeling of sadness, danger and hope, exploding with the epic tagline THE EPIC CONCLUSION TO THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY... Damn.

Because the SHH Batman community has been pretty great, I thought maybe the Batman Reddit page would be a great place, too.

Hoo boy, that was a mistake!

There are posters there who make it their mission to post about how much they hate the Dark Knight Trilogy and how people need to open their eyes to them being terrible – but some literally are only there to bash The Dark Knight Rises.

Like…why? Like there's posters there today making thread after thread slamming the film.

I had to leave and come back here.

This place is infinitely better. Take my advice, don't go!

Yeah...there are a few other details that I don't think are accurate. Most notably for me was that Nolan said he'd be open to a fourth film of a good enough story was presented to him. I'd love for that to be true but I don't think it is. However there's a kernel of truth to it as Bale said he was open to it and Jonah Nolan said he'd be interested in revisiting the character later in life-- but that's totally ambiguous as to another story in the same universe or just Batman in general.

Still an enjoyable/fair retrospective overall though.

...I check it out once a week and never see that, all I come across is art, cinematography p*rn and memes.

But, I also use Apollo and every community is defaulted to 'hot' for sorting.
