ah. but that's probably because your saves were still saved in the Cloud and linked to your profile.

I'm really thinking about getting that Stormtrooper looking X1 that comes with Sunset Overdrive.

the White bundle??

but you already have an X1........lol!!

Haha I know. I do this every gen. I get the console at launch then later down the line they release a special color or game themed box that I just "have" to have. What's really getting me is that I can turn in my old phone and current X1 and come away with that white console with change to spare, so I wouldn't be paying any out of pocket.

Usually I like white consoles, but the Xbone is pretty damn honking big. The PS4 and Wii were really slim, and sexy, so they looked great in white. I think a white Bone would really stand out in a room though. And not in a good way.

I really need to see one in person first.

I do like the controller though.

I actually like the Bones size. It's never.. Ever.. Eeeever hot. Runs cool constantly.. And ya know if it has to be a bit f a beast to do so ten I'm all for it.

Pat, if I could do that to get the White X11 I'd do it Ina heart beat. Maybe I will come Feb when I can upgrade.

heh.

well, I suppose if you can cover it with your trade ins........go for it!

I'm thinking about getting Best Buys club thing. 20 bucks off new games... And all new games trade in for 45. It's 100 for a year buuuut they often have sales where it's like 45. While I plan on going digital this could still be worth it.

We shall see.

Best Buy is the place to go for me. Better trade ins, and they give you GC randomly, plus you rank up points on your BB card for even more money back. I went in last week to trade in 3 old 360 games for The Evil Within, and GameStop was going to give me $12, so I took it to BB, and I got $26, and then I randomly got a $10 GC for buying the game on release day.

isn't it 20% off new games?

Gamestop really does rip you off with those trade ins. With Watch Dogs I got 10 bucks more from Best Buy. And Best Buy is usually terrible.

Is it a ripoff if it's not forced? I get bad prices relative to for eg ebay when I trade in locally but I often choose to go with them anyway for convenience.

I have had some bull **** with Gamestop.

A few months back, they tried to sell me an opened copy of Dishonored (Game of the Year Edition) as new. When I asked the guy how they could sell an opened copy as new, he said it made no difference. I asked him if I brought it in like that if it would be considered new, he suddenly got very quiet.

They sell you a game for 60 bucks, you take off the plastic, it's automatically worth 35 dollars, even if you never use the game, or any of the DLC. Then they sell it to you for 55.

Oh that sounds like outright fraud! I don't know what the laws are like in the US but if you had the energy could you have got them in trouble for that?

It would be a fairly weak case, and most judges would just throw it out. Companies pull BS like that all the time, it's one reason why I really have no problem with seeing "brick and mortar" companies go bust.

I want to dance on their graves.

There used to be a lot of cases of employees at big stores telling people outright false information about warranties. Since people now carry around recording devices, that has become a bit rarer.

There are whole sites dedicated to this sort of thing (people giving stories about what happened to them).

At least I'm not that guy who traded in Xenoblade for 40 dollars.

Haha.

Oh what was the deal with Xenoblade? (excuse my ignorance)

Xenoblade Chronicles is a fascinating story. It's a Wii RPG, that's quite rare, despite being fairly popular.

Anyway, Gamestop got the exclusive rights to make and sell Xenoblade Chronicles in the US. Like most games, it originally sold for 60 dollars new, but copies quickly ran out. So, soon used copies were going for 90 dollars, because they were so rare. Which pissed people off, but it made sense. Rare game, lots of people want it, ergo high price. Gamestop however only gave people 40 dollars for trading them in.

But then suddenly, in 2013, used, but like-new copies of Xenoblade Chronicles started showing up in Gamestops around the country. Despite the sudden influx, they were still being priced at 90 dollars.

So, what a lot of people believe, is that Gamestop printed new copies of Xenoblade Chronicles, but deliberately opened them, so they could sell them at the used price of 90 dollars, as opposed to 60 dollars new.

Oh bloody hell! Not surprised they have a bad rep if they do stuff like that.

I wish I had the patience to individually sell off all my games rather than trade them in. It's too easy trading them in but I know I'm probably getting Gamestop like prices here too.

Something similar recently happened with the PS3 version of Nier (another JRPG).

Nier for PS3 was going for about 40 bucks used on eBay, when Gamestop, suddenly restocked all its stores with used, but like-new copies of the game, for about 20 bucks, so again, more than it would have cost new (new it would cost 14.99).

Needless to say, people on eBay were livid. And people who wanted the game, but didn't want to pay 40 bucks had... mixed feelings.

Gamestop was still ripping us off, yet saving us 20 bucks.

isn't it 20% off new games?

The Gamer's Club Unlocked membership is $120 for 2 years.

it gives you 20% off new games and 10% off used games.

I believe it also gives you 10% extra trade in on games.

yeah. I do find, for the most part, BB gives you better trade in values. plus, you can easily check the current values on their site.

and, the rewards points like you mentioned.

my local Gamestop is pretty good. I've never really had an issue with them.

I do agree with you about their practice of selling us unsealed games as "new." it is unfair, because, as you said, as soon as we break the seal, it's considered "used" and the value drops dramatically.

Unless they do it, in which case it's 90 bucks.

heh.

and what I've always wondered is........if you buy a new game that's already unsealed and open, how will you be able to return it? ( since you can only return unsealed new games for a refund ).

You can't. But they will happily let you sell it to them for half the price you bought it for, and then sell it new again.
