The Xbox One - Part 9

I'm actually surprised. I thought it was going to stay at $350.

I definitely expected that.

I have a feeling we won't see a permanent price cut until a new sku is released - whether that's a standard black 1TB model or, less likely, a redesigned Slim model.

I could definitely see a standard 1TB model being released in 2015 ( from both X1 and PS4 ) and that would lead to a price cut on the current 500GB models.

the 500GB models drop to $300 or $350 and the 1TB models go for $400 or $450 ( essentially $100 more than the 500GB ).

well the other thing you guys have to consider is software. there's gonna be a bunch of Ps4 games released all throughout 2015. there's only 4 I can think of off the top of my head for the xbone and they are... halo 5, rise of the tomb raider, quantum break, and scalebound. which is actually a lot, now that I think about it.

yeah, 2015 will be really competitive for console games.

There's also Ori and the Blind Forest, Below & possibly Killer Instinct: Season 3 & Battletoads.

Phil Spencer has been hinting at what could be some unrevealed 2015 exclusives too.

I assume he's talking more retail titles. But he did forget Crackdown and Phantom Dust.

yeah, exclusives will play a big part in whether or not I decide to give the X1 another look down the line.

based on my interests, Street Fighter V being PS4 exclusive was a huge win for PS4 and a huge loss for X1.

so, any future X1 exclusive would have to be on the same level as that. I'm talking major franchise level like Bethesda games ( Fallouts, Elder Scrolls, etc. ) or EA/Bioware games ( Mass Effects, Dragon Ages, Star War games, etc. ) becoming X1 exclusives.

games like those would make me feel like I'm seriously missing out on my favorite game franchises by not having an X1.

Well, you might as well look away now, because none of that **** is going exclusive.

well, you never know. I would never have pegged the next Street Fighter game as being PS4 exclusive.

so, who knows what exclusive deals they will try to get.

I wonder how much sales will drop off. Granted, obviously sales were going to spike during the holiday season, but 399 seems like a whole lot more when you could have bought it for 349.

I get the feeling that Microsoft is going to turn into a mattress store with deals every damn month.

Eh, jury is out on how exclusive SFV will really be. I'd be willing to bet money the first re-release will be Bone bound. The other franchises you mentioned I would give a .000000005% chance of being exclusive in any way or form.

yeah. you're probably right about both points.

well, we'll see what 2015 holds in store for the consoles.

Well, Microsoft has to do something. I don't think **** block PS4 users from multiplats is going to cut it.

How hard is it to make some new games anyway?

yes I was, and yes I did.

Well to be honest, Mass Effect is probably recognized as an Xbox franchise. When Me2 was announced for Ps3, Microsoft came out and stated that the 360 was still the place to have the best ME experience, and for the next 2 years that was true. Microsoft's got deep pockets, I could see them turning Me4 into some sort of exclusive as well.

Sony's helping to fund SF5. I have no idea how updated iterations of it work but if Sony helps with anything SF5 from here on out it's a pretty safe bet that their original statement will stand - that the Ps4 will be the only console you can play it on.

EA isn't going to do that unless it's a timed situation

That's a pretty huge investment on Sony's part, a lot of loss on the part of Capcom. Highly unlikely.

Yeah like I said, some sort of exclusivity. Could be timed, could be nothing at all who knows.

sf5 alone is a huge investment on Sony's part.

That depends on how much Sony is actually putting into SFV. Considering how it has a PC port, I question if it's as deep as you seem to assume. But investing even a small amount can be a huge undertaking when we're talking about investing into 3-4 different games. And again, a lot of potential loss on Capcom's side, so that's a factor. Again, unlikely.

I don't know how much they're putting into it, but the fact that they're doing it at all is big for them. Maybe the fact that there's cross platform play has something to do with it.

Probably one of the only games where it would be worth anything getting a timed exclusive.

Sony isn't going to fund the 800 "editions" that Capcom likes to put out. PS4 will be the only console you can play it on innitally.. When SF5 Ultra hits that will be on XB1.

No way does Sony have the money or power to fund every version of the game. Just not possible.

That being said I was MS I would throw as much money as humanly possible at Neatherrealm and WB to score MK as an exclusive. At least for a year.

That's ship already sailed since MKX has been announced for other systems. They have Killer Instinct as an exclusive, I don't think they see a need to moneyhat a fighting franchise.

Yeah, they should really focus on making Killer Instinct content and sequels as good as they can. It's a good new exclusive.

If you think about it, Me1 was technically a timed exclusive, of over 5 years. Although that isn't really the case because I don't think even the original publisher (Microsoft) ever saw it becoming multiplatform.

But anyways, you don't think rotr is worth getting as a timed exclusive?

Well maybe not, but if the majority of the SF fanbase is already on the Ps4, they may continue to skip out on xbone releases. I think that was part of the reason they decided to develop it only for the Ps4 in the first place - because they're on a tighter budget and want to allocate resources to the platform they know it will sell the most copies, from recent history and current events.

PC versions of fighting games historically flop if I'm not mistaken but the cross platform play is the other incentive in this project, another thing Microsoft ain't willing to do.

Not necessarily. Beautiful Katamari was supposed to have a Ps3 version alongside the 360 version, but it got straight up CANCELLED and ended up as a 360 exclusive.

I don't think for that game's case it was because Microsoft paid BN to do so, but I'm sure for a game like MKX if they so wish, could pay netherrealm a decent amount to make it at least a timed exclusive.

they already have rise of the tomb raider, but why would you want them to make MKX an exclusive? Almost all fighting games, mk included sold better on playstation so it would be a pretty daring move, however much netherrealm would've gotten a check from microsoft.
Yeah, they should really focus on making Killer Instinct content and sequels as good as they can. It's a good new exclusive.
Indeed, Phil Spencer's response to sf5 being console exclusive was to pool more resources into making KI a better game series.

IF RotR were a timed exclusive for a year plus it would probably be worth something for Microsoft. To me it means nothing. I don't care about the order I play 95% of games and 6 months isn't a long time.

Spencer said that on KI? Great! Perfect response.

bro, if Microsoft is publishing rotr which I'm pretty sure they are, the wait for Ps4 owners is gonna be way longer than 6 months. Remember, we just talked about ME, and Me1 was published by Microsoft first. That same year, EA bought bioware and even then it took a whole FIVE years for the first game to come to Ps3.

So needless to say it will be at least a year before rotr comes to Ps4, if ever. Because honestly, I never saw Me1 ported to Ps3 coming.

and yes, that's what Phil said

dude was kind of annoying in the video though because he wouldn't shut up about not acknowledging sf5 as a Ps4 exclusive.
