The Xbox One - Part 9

yes. the X1 can play music, video, and picture files. It also supports DLNA I believe. As well as audio CDs.

you can also set your own image as the background, and I heard in the Feb update they will give you more options to tweak that such as allowing you to adjust the transparency of the background image.

meanwhile.......over at the PS4..........we can play music files and choose from a few premade themes to use as our background......yay......:o
I feel your pain X, and trust me I deadass was on the verge of getting rid of my playsation for an xb. but it all stopped when I realized I like playstation games too much to give it up. that's the most important thing, that's what it all comes down to, that's why we are all here; the games.

when it comes to features, especially media features, there's no question the X1 has the advantage over the PS4. even using IE to browse the net was like night and day compared to browsing on the PS4.

HOWEVER, the PS4 still has one major advantage over the X1 - faster disc install times. and for me, that's more important than the above media features.
I remember people scoffing at me for being upset (not on this board) that the PS4 wasnt going to do that stuff at launch in 2013. Its 2015 and well.....

The X1 has eclipsed the PS4 when it comes to that stuff. I honestly don't think ANY of that is on Sony's "to do" list. It feels to me that they've gotten a bit cocky and until MS continues to beat them they'll just sit on their haunches.

and that's why I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting for those features on the PS4. they'll add them when they add them, I guess.

but I'm not going to lie and say I won't be a little miffed if we don't get those basic features this year.

very true.

getting a game like SF V as a Sony exclusive is a major plus in my book for the PS4. and I'd rather take games like that over media features that, while nice, I probably won't use very much.

same with the faster disc install times. that again relates to the gaming experience. and you don't appreciate how nice it is to be able to dive into the games after a 2-3 minute wait ( which seems to be the norm ) on the PS4 vs a 15 minute wait or worse, a 3 1/2 hour wait, on the X1.

if MS can bring the X1 install times down to parity with the PS4, and get some more awesome exclusives, that might get me to take another look at it in the future.

oh yeah. I figured by Spring 2014 we'd get those basic features.

and I've certainly done my fair share of complaining about that stuff, so I'm not going to say anymore.

but there's no doubt that adding features on a consistent frequent basis is a big advantage the X1 has.

and it's a strength they need to continue playing to.

but hey. if the X1 can keep outselling the PS4 month after month, and the tide seems to really be turning, maybe, just maybe, that will wake Sony up and get them to realize they can't afford to stay complacent.

so, in that respect, as a PS4 owner I say.........Go X1!! Go!!!

Unless said person purchased the console from MS, MS shouldnt give them anything. Why should they? Its been less than 2 weeks. Most US retailers will do a price adjustment or accept returns (with most being at least 30 days). A person should go to the place they bought the system, not MS for compensation
I'm not saying the guys deserve it, but I would do it as a business move for goodwill and make sure it gets reported about ;). They're obviously ok to sell at $349 and should have just kept it at that price. And digital codes and bonuses to their own products don't cost them the extra $50 paid. MS gave me loyalty bonuses for getting the X1 early and having a long unbroken Live membership and this would be another way of rewarding guys who bought your system for the temporarily higher price. I'm not saying they should actually give them $50 or that they owe it to them.

yeah you're right probably not a ton of people bought it. Know 1 guy who did though.

anyways, sony needs to follow suit or they're gonna lose the U.S dominance
Follow suit on price? Are they selling out their stock still in US?

as long as the Ps4 continues selling well (which it is, worldwide) sony's gonna continue sitting their asses on their high horses. psn goes down unacceptably often and it doesn't seem like sony is doing anything to make it better.

yeah. X took a lot of heat for that in the Ps4 thread.

if the install times take long now I don't think that's ever gonna change. it sounds like a hardware thing. with that being said, yes the Ps4 does seem to install quite fast. it's not necessarily a big deal but the fact that the Ps4 does it fast just gives the xbone a little less shine.
Follow suit on price? Are they selling out their stock still in US?
the xbone? no not yet but you can bet your ass that they'll be outselling the competition from here on out in the states. i believe they'll probably do a similar thing in the U.K so xbone may take back that region as well.

Ps4 is still winning worldwide but if they care about keeping their lead in those 2 regions, they're gonna have to cut the price.

^ well, Spencer has addressed the install time issues. so he's aware of it and has said it's a priority.

so hopefully that gets fixed this year.

cuz, really, if it weren't for that, I would have exchanged my defective X1 for another one and would have given it another chance. I'd still be an X1 owner today. minus the install times and the clicking/grinding noise, I actually enjoyed my X1. :(

and as for the X1 continuing to outsell the PS4 on a monthly basis in the US.

if they keep the price cut permanent, then they do have a shot.

if it's just going to be a 1 week deal, then no. I think the PS4 will continue to outsell the X1.

Can you play MKV files on the Xbox now? Or is it still just AVI?
i didn't even know xbone could do avi.

I just assumed you can play AVI. I used to be able to from my computer on the 360.

well, they shouldn't have raised the price back in the first place.......lol.

and I thought I was the wishy-washy indecisive one..........:o :oldrazz:

they probably did because they were selling at a loss for $350. and probably decided to bring it back down again when they saw that sales tanked these past 2 weeks.

well no duh........lol.

btw.....did you see my opinion on Skyrim vs DAI?

I believe you were calling me out for my thoughts in that thread.

I said a while ago that they would put the price back up and then instantly turn around and say no because it sold so well we're gonna bring it back down.

I'm absolutely not surprised that they did just that. Here in te state most people will be getting their tax return within the next couple week.. Another good time people start buying consoles.

if $350 stays the price from here on out, makes you wonder what the price will be come the holidays.

plus, the $350 price makes it easier for them to introduce a standard black 1tb model at $450.

it seems the AW console isn't being sold by retailers anymore??

so, I'd imagine we'll see a standard 1tb model this year.

also, I'm very interested to see how Windows 10 will be integrated into the X1.

well, here's this. according to this article, the price cut is temporary.

https://games.yahoo.com/news/xbox-ones-latest-price-cut-121300487.html

if true, I think it's stupid and could end up hurting sales. if you keep putting it on sale, then customers might get wise to the pattern and not buy it when it goes back to $400. since it seems to be going on sale frequently, they'll simply wait for them to cut prices again.

however, they're not giving an end date and say they want to "see how customers react."

so, I think that gives them the open door to keep the price cut permanently, especially if the price cut boosts January sales.

Bloody hell, temporary is stupid. Don't muck your buyers around.

I think that's the point they're making. They're trying to artificially create a sales wave, and they hope to ride it every time it comes around.

We'll see how it turns out...

but part of the incentive of a sale is that it's supposed to be a limited time deal. it should feel urgent and special - if you miss the sale, then you'll have to wait some time before it comes around again, whenever that happens, if it happens.

doing the sale again after only 2 weeks seems a bit quick. they should have just extended the holiday sale for another 2 weeks or a month or whatever.

or waited until Spring and do another sale then.
