The Xbox One

so you cant even do any of that cool stuff right out of the box? That was the most impressive feature! It sucks that you have to pay for another device to even take advantage of this

Their official stance is that they do not accept returns on open software. The ME3 seemed more like a special case bc of all the controversy. The average person cant just buy any game off Amazon, play it and then return. Ive never heard anything about Bioshock and Amazon accepting returns but if some one guy claimed he did it, then that again sounds like a special case and I question if that indeed happened.

I read about Bioshock return happening for Steam download, not Amazon.

Basically they want it to be the only piece of equipment aside from the tv itself and the gamepad you use.

Using the disk tray/slot as a guide, I whipped up a quick and dirty comparison pic to get a better sense of how big the X1* is.

*Is anyone else having trouble saying/typing that without thinking of Peewee's bike?
Not liking that there are no front USB ports. Meanwhile I didn't like how the PS3 had no back USB ports. I hope the PS4 has front AND back ports

Is a lot bulkier than I'd imagined it'd be. I assume down the line they'll release the inevitable slim version

I think I'll definitely wait for the inevitable release of a slim version, before I buy any next-gen console.

I hope PS4's launch console isn't big/fat/bulky,I'm getting one of the consoles when I get my tax return ear,y next year

Thoughts:

I thought the Xbox One presentation was cleaner than Sony's...I liked that it was more compact..I was surprised that Sony's presentation was going 2 hours or was it even longer that that..meandering about to much and had too many superflous presenters. I felt Microsoft's presenters were more professional, straight to the point, especially for main audience which are business investors...not just gamers.

However, I do share many concerns. I don't like the mandatory Kinect and am concerned it will interfere with ability to use the program. If you make an accidental hand gesture, is the movie going to stop playing? I can easily see Kinect misinterpreting playful banter as going back to home.

I like the idea of All in One entertainment...but I think it doesn't make too much snese at this point if Microsoft isn't entering the cable market as well. I just cancelled cable few months ago..don't really miss it...EXCEPT for watching the Miami Heat dominate..I go to sports bar....and if Microsoft could offer an alternative to ATT Uverse and Comcast that's cheaper and more succinct, that would be a great buy. If I can't use all those features without Comcast..what's the point? Even I had Comcast, what's to prevent them from making features that make my new XBox One redundant?

I didn't mind focus on sports gamers...Microsoft is trying to capture the casual crowd not impressed with the Wii U. I think it is a smart move..Microsoft has the better brand to reach those people.

The additional stuff being exposed after the presentation is a concern. They are moving towards no used games and DRM, but that is future of all consoles...I'm sure PS4 will follow.

I do admit Sony's lack of a mandatory Kinect is significant selling point to have me consider PS4, if I buy any new gen console at all. If anything, I'm just glad I invested in building a gaming PC...I might stick with that and left of 360 cycle and call it a day.

Hackers are going to have a field day with this one

I think they solved that issue with the Kinect camera being able to tell if you look at it. So if no one is looking at the Kinect, it won't execute X-Box commands.

bc you don't own the game. You only buy a license to use it. How that use is determined is by MS and the publisher.
You own it if you buy the physical copies. Licensing used to only apply to digital downloads. This is total ********.

EDIT: To expand upon my point, it's actually the law that if you own a physical copy of copyrighted media (movies, books, games, music), it's your property. You may not own the code of the game, but the copy of the game in your possession is yours to own.

This used game thing I'd bet originates from pubilsher request (particularly EA who have suddenly and very uncharacteristically decided to cancel online passes at the same time). Microsoft sold so many NEW games this gen if you looked at the charts for the last 7 years that it doesn't seem like a major thing they would be concerned about and willing to police, especially if it gives them a big disadvantage.

All we know from Sony is that the thing can play used games but is there a similar fee? The extremely cagey delayed response from that Sony guy means something is up and there's a reason why he couldn't answer that simple question without consultation. If publishers are requesting it I'm sure they've made a similar request to Sony and well, lets see what the result is.

According to Microsoft it's so X1 can become as familiar as possible with your voice to make the voice commands pin point accurate.

Or help the NSA further monitor all of my personal activities.

I mean, I'm just saying...

It's totally tyrannical and that's why they're going to lose my money. Sony is the only one who's thinking with a straight head. Nintendo are losing it and hunting down Lets Players (which has been lambasted by almost every single other developer in existence) and now Microsoft introduces the X1 which has some neat features but are easily overshadowed by the complete draconian ones (like omitting used games essentially and the Kinect constantly monitoring your voice which is just flat out creepy despite it being touted as practical).

Sony's PS4 is already looking like the victor by working closely with developers when they were creating said system along with encouraging the YouTube gaming community to make more videos (which was suggested by developers) along with noninvasive specs that the X1 is so adamant about pushing.

It's unfortunate seeing both Nintendo and Microsoft heading down the spiral of impracticality. They're both coming across as either out of touch (Nintendo) or maniacally tyrannical (Microsoft).

No, it extends to physical discs as well and spelled out in most EULAs, which most people don't read in the manuals

On a side note, we need more people to post in this thread so this can finally get moved to the next page and I can stop looking at that big mug of that fired MS loser

What will you do when you are having issues with your internet provider, something is broken on their end, and it takes time to fix? Basically, if for whatever reason you can't access the internet in the next 24 hours, this happens.

Internet connection is iffy at best where I live, out here in the Blue Ridge Boonies. There's times I haven't had *electricity* for upwards of eight days, let alone internet service. So if God chooses to smite me down with a tree limb across a power line, or a nice deep snow to keep power trucks from restoring service for a week, then X1 tears me a new *******? Nice, Microsoft....thanks for looking out for the little guy

I'm pretty sure it's a play on "All-in-one", that popped up at least once during the conference. It's an all in one box.

except it's not, because I still need a cable box to use that functionality. So I'll be paying one company to use their equipment to watch their content on another's company's equipment which will more than likely cost me. That has ALWAYS bugged me about Xbox Live. I'm already paying these companies for their services and PS3 let's me do it for free. I'm very content to just hit the HDMI button on my remote to switch between TV/xbox.

And let's be real, given xbox's history with hardware stability, does it really sound like a good idea/reliable to have a device be running near-constantly?

To be honest, I'm worried enough (most likely unnecessarily...I'm not a doctor or scientist) about the long-term effects of living in a world that is covered with wi-fi signals, so many buzzing electronics, and now xbox's goal is that we'll be sitting in front of a TV with thousands of tiny little lasers pointed at us for hours.
