The Xbox One

I just want to play games. I have TV to watch TV, I have movies so I can watch movies. I have a computer for everything else.

Why do i need a phone that plays all my music and surfs the web and sends messages? I have a phone for my calls, i have an ipod for my music, iv got a lap top so i can surf the web and i use AIM to chat with my friends. I just want my phone to make phone calls. That sounds horrible right?

How many of you actually ONLY and i mean ONLY turn on your Xbox or PS3 JUST to play a game. If more than one of you claims you do, im calling BS.

Technology has been going all in one for over 10 years now, this is just the next logical step and consumers haven proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, thats what they want.

MS is doing the right thing by including all of this, my issue with them, or at least this presentation, is this stuff should be talked about as an added bonus to a great gaming machine. Like i said before, its as if they feel annoyed they have to make games too, again, at least judging by this one presentation.

Yeah. The thing is that I guarantee that Sony will have all this multimedia functionality as well, same as XBONE, but they realize they're selling a game console first and foremost.

I do. I used to use it for Netflix but I have a laptop now for that. All that extra **** is pointless if you just want to play a game. MS is smart for including all that though. The casual gamer will just here Skype, TV on XBOX, w/e other crap is on there and pay 'x' amount of dollars for it.

Yup. It's not like Sony won't have this media stuff... But they already made the "we're a media system" mistake with the PS3...the same mistake MS is making now.

It's cool to have all that fluff... But when it comes down to it.. We want a game system... Sony, I believe, will focus on that more come E3.

Yea i think it was Ryan McCaffery over at IGN who posed the question of "Who is it thats bringing these consoles into the home"? Its the GAMER. Sure Mom and Dad and little Jodi use Netflix and Skype and MLB etc, but the GAMER is the one that brought that console into the house. MS seems as tho they either dont agree with that logic, or just dont understand it.

But honestly, its been like this for some time. Im not surprised, more disappointed i guess.

They just plum went nuts. I've been saying it for a while but I fully believed this would happen. MS would get cocky and go into this next gen like Sony came in this gen.

I'm not saying I'll never own a 1..but I'll wait at LEAST a year to see if their business practices change if they take a beating.. Much like Sony did.

Time will tell but I know Halo 5 ain't coming anytime soon... So... I can wait.

the real kicker would be if Sony comes out later and says they too are banning used games or charging you a fee. or if Sony comes out and says that they too are going to start charging for online play and surfing the net.

iow, if Sony and MS basically end up 2 peas in a pod, this may actually be the 1st generation of consoles, since the NES days, that I sit out entirely.

Altho this will all be moot if in 2 - 3 years MS has new exclusives and still has great support from 3rd party devs. I mean nothing will change. Both Sony(albeit not to the extent that MS has) and MS have focused on the "living room" for the last few years.

I really hope Microsoft has some BADASS games at E3 cuz that reveal was a snoozer.

See this is where i am at currently. Neither one has grabbed me and both are pushing me towards a PC.

Altho i dont know why i keep knocking either company, the minute Uncharted 4 and Gears of War 4 get announced is the moment i snag both consoles. Thats just an absolute.

But, im gonna b***h up until that day haha.

I'll wait for the inevitable slimmed down version in 2015 or so. This monstrosity looks like my old VCR.

ProjectPat, I see where you're coming from with the smartphone analogy. However, you're talking about one small device that you can put in your pocket and do almost everything with. What irritates me about X1 is that they're pretending to be this all in one box, yet you still need a cable provider's cable box to take advantage of what they claim.

So you're paying for three services now: cable, internet, & live (because you just know those greedy bastards would make this exclusive to gold members). All this news about X1 today makes me hope Sony capitalizes on the opportunity they were given today and continue their trend of respecting their users who are already paying for services like netflix and hulu.

Gears is dead to me. D-E-D.

While I am against the digital rights fee on principle, I never had a stake in used games, as I never bought them. However, I would occasionally borrow them from friends, and hence my irritation. Yet, I would have overcome my hostility towards Microsoft if they had not implemented the requirement for a constant internet connection. If there was not a sequel to Arkham City coming out, I would sit both of these consoles out --- the AC sequel is the only reason I would buy one in the first place. A gaming PC is very tempting, but, I have no room to install one, and worse, the cost of a good one, from what I understand, exceeds that of both systems, which makes my situation worse.

Oh yea i get that, but my point is that tech is moving to the all in one package, for EVERYTHING, i mean TV's now come standard with a web browser and things like Netflix. Sony is doing the same thing, the difference is they didnt focus on it the way MS did. Sony actually remembers they have a GAMES system. MS seems to think they have an all in one box that oh by the way, plays games.

Phil Harrison tries (again) to clarify game ownership, second-hand sales and always-online in Xbox One

"So, think about how you use a disc that you own of an Xbox 360 game," he began. "If I buy the disc from a store, I use that disc in my machine, I can give that disc to my son and he can play it on his 360 in his room. We both can't play at the same time, but the disc is the key to playing. I can go round to your house and give you that disc and you can play on that game as well.

"What we're doing with the digital permissions that we have for Xbox One is no different to that. If I am playing on that disc, which is installed to the hard drive on my Xbox One, everybody in my household who has permission to use my Xbox One can use that piece of content. [So] I can give that piece of content to my son and he can play it on the same system."

Harrison then explained what happens when you want to take that game beyond the borders of your own home and into a friend's place.

"I can come to your house and I can put the disc into your machine and I can sign in as me and we can play the game," he explained.

"The bits are on your hard drive. At the end of the play session, when I take my disc home - or even if I leave it with you - if you want to continue to play that game [on your profile] then you have to pay for it. The bits are already on your hard drive, so it's just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it's instantly available to play.

"The bits that are on the disc, I can give to anybody else, but if we both want to play it at the same time, we both have to own it. That's no different to how discs operate today."

Enough with the stupid "bits" euphemism. Just end the BS and tell people they're only buying a license to the game.

"but if we both want to play it at the same time, we both have to own it. That's no different to how discs operate today."

Except for the part where it's totally different. I already understand & accept that I can't play my copy of a game if it's loaned to a friend. I can't play it because my friend has my copy. It's worked that way for decades, until you arrogant ass holes decided that wasn't good enough.

Ugh. Just UGH. :down

The more I research and understand the implications of these decisions, the more Microsoft pisses me off.

Microsoft keeps making things worse the more they try and "clarify." What the Hell

This is primary difference between the two companies and why Sony currently has the upper hand.

Whatever happened to the good ol' days where you and your friends can play the same game together on your console? I guess if they want to play with you they all have to purchase the game as well?

"It's mulitplayer, but your friends have to pay for the game too."
