For me the games would have to be top line releases rather than gimmicks made just to show off VR. They would have to be games that would be great even without the VR aspect, and the VR just makes them a lot better and atmospheric. I think it could be a really good thing when everyone owns this tech and they can design with big budgets for the mass market, but there could be a long bedding in process before that happens.

^ agreed.

though I think it has to be AAA games that can only be experienced in VR.

Can imagine playing the best AAA games with in your face graphics and everything reacting to your movements. With that level of reality it could really enhance the best games but I don't know if they are at that stage with what they are planning at the moment, maybe something for the medium or longer term future.

I would prefer if VR became mass market huge by the time my new TV starts dying out so that I can get a good few years of value out of it first. :woot:

at some point in the future, the tv and VR headset will probably just merge into one device.

and at some further point in the future, the whole thing will just be fused with our eyeballs.

:o

No thanks on eyeballs..too squeamish for that!

I think there will be room for both. The VR will be the ultimate reality experience but the TV will be a better living room social device for when you have people over.

nah. when you have company over, you'll just all share the same VR enable eyeball - the ultimate social experience!! :o :oldrazz:

but yeah, I don't think TV sets will totally go away - they just may take different forms in the future.

I lost my USB 3 connector for my hard drive a while ago. But bought a new one and last night started downloading every available game to me (almost 200) including XBLA, digital games and GWG games since it began. Will see how much space is left (out of 8TB) when I get back home tonight!

^ 8 TB is a lot of space!

anyways, over the weekend, I upgraded my Pro to a 2 TB hdd. Once I figured out how to get the hdd cover flap off, it would have been a relatively simple, quick process. Except 1 SCREW was stripped ( and yes, it always seems to be just 1 ). So, it ended up taking several hours......lol.

contrast that to an external drive where you just plug it in and go. so yeah, I still think external drives have the advantage. though it is nice not having to take up a USB port and having another wire device hanging out of the machine. but if the PS4 had supported external drives like the X1, I think I would have opted to go for a bigger external for the same price as the internal.

Haha damn. Im still working with my 4TB and I'm around the 50% mark(I think iv got 1.8 TB left?)

I think the minimum internal drive size going forward should be 2 TB - that should be the standard.

especially on a "premium" console like the Scorpio.

Shenmue 3 Update – The Rundown

Today in the Rundown, we have an update on the development of Shenmue 3, get the first details on a villainous new DC Comics movie, have a very honorable look at the multiplayer in For Honor, find out how popular backwards compatibility is on the Xbox One, and finally, take a look at the latest films to be inducted into the National Film Registry!

People really, really like being able to play their favorite games, go figure. Xbox head Phil Spencer has announced that the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility program for the Xbox One is very popular. He says that nearly 50% of Xbox One owners have played backwards compatible titles, which he says is great to see. The program was first announced shortly after Spencer took over the Xbox division, and since it officially launched last year, more than 300 titles have been added to the list. Gamers have the ability to use their existing Xbox 360 disks to download free digital versions of the same game on the Xbox One, and if you never owned the disk in the first place, you can buy the digital version and play it for the first time. Backwards compatibility is important because, like films, classic games deserve to be preserved, something that’s essential to ensuring the longevity of the entire video game industry.

External is the only option for me. I hate being limited in the long term and it is great now with all of my GWG and arcade titles always available on the drive. And also all the games (about 2.5TB) were downloaded/installed within 24 hours. When I logged back in in the evening there were just 2 small ones left to go.

I've bought hardly any digital X1 games, this is mostly my 360 stuff plus GWG and the few titles I have bought. Can't imagine how much space it would take up if I bought all X1 retail titles digitally and as regularly as I did on 360!

Bit of a coincidence given the timing but just saw this:

Xbox One Update Increases Download Speeds Substantially

Today's regular Xbox One update had a special treat for all of us. It turns out Microsoft has found a way to increase download speeds over Xbox Live substantially. This change will come to the joy of quite a few of us, especially since updates can be as large as 50gb depending on the game.

We’ve made several optimizations to game and app downloads on Xbox One:
Customers with high-speed connections (greater than 100Mbps) should experience up to 80% faster download speeds.
Customers with connections less than 100Mbps should experience more consistent performance that is up to 40% faster than before.
Additional optimizations have also made background downloads more resilient to intermittent connectivity issues.

the last time I used the S, the downloads did seem a bit faster.

so it's good to hear they are further improving the download speeds.

hopefully, by the time Scorpio comes out, it will be even better. :)

i can't be sure if it became effective after I finished my epic download queue or was effective during it. Either way it's a good thing as if it wasn't then next time it will be even faster. Although my speed is below 100 MB/s so I wouldn't get that awesome 80% reduction!

I guess my paltry 6 mb/s qualifies as below 100 mb/s. :o :oldrazz: :csad:

And it turns out, that may have been the source of my networking issues.

in the Summer, I upgraded to 12 mb/s, the highest speed offered by my IPS in my area. However, as I learned this week, after several months of problems and numerous tech calls and visits, my location is just barely outside the desired range for that speed. So, the signal quality has been getting severely degraded by the time it reaches my home.

So, I had to downgrade back to 6 mb/s. yippie!! :csad:

In hindsight, now that I think about it, the problems did seem to start after I upgraded to the higher speed.

guess it's time to start looking for a new IPS.......lol.

That's terrible lol. You're getting low enough that it might almost stop at some points. :woot:

You need to move house!

I think switching to a different ISP would be slightly easier. :oldrazz:

I thought 12 mb/s was the highest in your area? That's still ****e!

12 mb/s is the highest in my area from my current ISP.

I'm looking at other ISPs to see if they offer higher speeds.

my cable company apparently offers up to 300 mb/s in my area - though I think that's overkill.......lol.

I think something around 50 mb/s should be good for my needs. definitely better than 6! :cwink:

Given your posts about download times in the past I think you should be looking for 3TB/sec lol.

This hard drive gets better the more BC stuff they release. So good.

I'm not even interested in VR until we get a full-out gaming experience.
Until then, it'll just be a gimmick. Forking over that amount of cash for an hour-long campaign is just not worth it.

If anyone can answer soon that'd be great.

I don't play games and haven't since Sega Genesis was giving way to the original Playstation. So I don't understand these modern game systems and how it all works. That said, I just bought my daughters an Xbox One and I want to break it with a sledgehammer already. After taking a good two hours just trying to figure out how to get the stupid thing working, she puts in the first game she wants to play which is Elder Scrolls Online and it's been installing or updating or whatever ever since. So here we are at almost 11pm on Christmas night and she STILL can't play a dang thing. It's around 84% now and moving at a freaking snail's pace.

I realized after we put it in that it's a very long install for that game, but she's in tears because she had other games she wanted to play and has been stuck all day on this idiotic install. Can she just take out the stupid disk and play other things and come back to it? Will that mess up the install? Does it even need the disk any more?

Sorry, I just don't understand these stupid game systems and it's about ruined Christmas day for them (first world problems, I know, but seeing my girls' Christmas morning excitement end in tears and me being too stupid to figure this crap out to help them is grating). I'm hoping they could at least play SOMETHING before going to bed in a couple hours.
