The Xbox One

What's going on with your Wifi? Depending on what it is, I may have a solution.

often, when the console starts up ( either from Instant On or Energy Saving mode ), it doesn't auto connect to my wifi network like it's supposed to do.

when I go into Network settings and try to connect manually, it won't even detect any available wireless network, even when I hit Y to refresh.

it does that while other devices ( like my PS4 and tv ) connect to the same network just fine.

Do you have any solutions for that problem?

When I first got my Xbox One S it was doing a similar Wifi thing as yours X, but eventually it just stopped glitching out.

Needless to say.......I am not happy about this. :cmad:
Ah good, you've done your research properly now.:yay:

This is useful to me too as I don't need the 2nd 4K Player and you've made me appreciate my 4K player more as I hadn't even tried a blu-ray disc in it before. Only the HDR gaming and slight graphical upgrade while playing Gears and Mass Effect might have swung it for me but I don't feel in a rush to make a decision. And the longer I leave it the more likely I just wait till Nov next year and double up on Scorpio.

Do you think you will keep your 4K player? I initially thought you had only bought it to test out your upscaling theory with the intention of returning it straight after. :woot:

I bought the 4K player with the intention of returning either it or the S. :woot:

and at this point, I'm strongly leaning towards keeping the Samsung player and returning the S. Cuz right now, the S doesn't do all of what was advertised and it doesn't meet all of my needs in a 4K player. Though I like the X1 exclusives, keeping it alone for the gaming aspect isn't enough for me, because I say I valued it's all-in-one media function more than the gaming.

So, I'll probably return the S tomorrow night or Wednesday, and then upgrade to the Pro next month. Which is what my initial plan was when I got my 4K tv........lol.

As for the Scorpio, well, I'm less likely to get it now. Clearly, I haven't had good luck with the Xbox One.......lol.

I mean, 3 different years ( 2014, 2015, 2016 ), 3 different models, and 3 different technical issues ( noise, flashing lines, network issues ). Plus, this last time is even more disappointing because I really love the look of the S but now I feel mislead about it's features. and that false/misleading advertisement really bugs me. :cmad:

But in each instance, the initial joys and elations of using the system turned into headaches and frustrations with one issue or another.

So, you can't say I haven't given the Xbox One a chance.....lol. I know I may take some heat from the posters here given my past history with the X1.

But I think I've truly, honestly, most definitely learned my lesson now. No more Xbox for me. If nothing else, I don't think I can take this string of bad experiences with the X1 anymore. :o

For me to be interested in the Scorpio, it now has to almost be a "clean break" from the X1. Most likely it will run on Windows 10 OS. But, the UI, backend system, the overall "experience" of the Scorpio has to be different from the X1 even though it will run all the same games.

For example, downloading updates and digital games was painfully slow for me on on the X1. That's always been my biggest beef with how the console works. Yeah, as I discussed before, I know my internet speed isn't that fast. But my PS4 is tied to that speed, too, but it downloads updates and digital stuff much faster and more efficiently than the X1. The PS4 can even download multiple things at once - the X1 can only do 1.

So, that's more the nature of the X1 and how it operates. And that's something that needs to change in the Scorpio for me to get interested. If the download/install process is still the same as the X1, then the Scorpio is a definite no-no for me.

And in your situation, at this point, I'd now recommend skipping the S and just wait for the Scorpio. If you current X1s are working fine and you are happy with them and you can't get a good trade in deal, I don't think the upgrade in HDR and graphics with the S is worth it, especially as you already have a 4K player and don't need a 2nd 4K player.

It's not like there's a whole host of HDR ready games out now or in the near future. And if your tv is like mine, it may have it's own "color boosting" feature to enhance colors regardless of HDR. My Sony tv has something called "Living Color" which does make the colors more vibrant, and that's a separate setting from the HDR settings.

oh, and Iceman, I'd be curious if you tried a regular Blu-Ray disc in your 4K player and if your tv saw that as 4K output or 1080p output.

is your 4K player supposed to upscale standard Blu-Rays?

Does it ever tell you to reconnect the network cable despite being wireless?

no. I don't think I ever got that message.

it just said "can't connect to internet" or something. and then it didn't recognize any wireless network for me to choose to connect manually.

I tested it yesterday and it does show 4K output with blu-rays. It is supposed to and it's hard to tell without a side to side comparison with non-upscaled blu-rays but it certainly looks very good (by my TV is top end and has a lot of other processing effects that may be contributing).

Gears and Forza have HDR I believe and I think a lot of games will have it soon but PS4 has HDR anyway so you can get it from there if you need.

ah, thanks. that's good to know. That's what my Samsung player shows when it plays regular Blu-Rays - it says 4K (2160p) on the tv.

So, I guess that's further confirmation that the S, right now at least, does not upscale regular Blu-Rays - it only shows 1080p on the tv with regular Blu-Rays.

Anyways, I've decided. I packed up the S last night and I will return it tonight. I'm done with the Xbox One.......lol. My experience with the X1 these past few years has been nothing but headaches and frustrations in one form or another.

And it's a real shame this time because I really love the look of the S, I really love the controller, and I do like the MS/Xbox ecosystem and games. But I bought the S under the ( now false ) impression that its 4K player also upscaled regular Blu-Rays. And with that not being the case, a major reason for getting the S is gone.

So, yeah. I'm done.

But thanks for all of your help, Iceman, both with the X1 but also my 4K questions. I hope you continue to enjoy your current X1s and Gears 4 and I hope you enjoy the Scorpio next year.

I will remain on the PS side of things for now, upgrading to the Pro next month. And I'll probably visit this thread much less now.

So, let's keep in touch when you visit the PS thread, yes?

Yeah sure, good luck with it.

^ thanks! :)

let's hope I have much better luck with the Pro than with the X1.......lol.

Any Rare Replay players on here? I've been trying to install Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise since I bought the Xbox One S and it will not install. Everything else installed, but this one garbage gamer refuses to install and my girlfriend is throwing a hissy fit over not being able to play it? Anyone have a solution?

That is odd.

I will recheck but I am 100% sure everything is up scaled from mine. My TV displays 2160p when I watch regular TV though it, same goes for non 4k Netflix and such. I will have to re-check a normal blu-ray when I get back home.

I assume you had the output on the Xbox One S set to 4K UHD to upscale everything (or at least it should). If it not it will only switch over to 4K mode when you have 4K content and let the TV do the up scaling.

I'd be interested to hear what you find.

yes, I had the output set to 4K UHD as instructed by the X1 support site. that's supposed to upscale everything - except for regular Blu-Rays, it seems.

None of my games were native 4K content, but they all displayed as 4K/2160p on my tv. so, I know the S was upscaling the games. but the regular Blu-Rays only displayed as 1080p.

I heard they might fix the issue via an update, but I don't know if that update has been released.

maybe if it works for you, it's because you have the most recent update?

Anyone else open to getting the Scorpio (not necessarily at launch) at the moment?

I definitely plan on getting one. When I get one has everything to do with when I get a 4K TV. Getting the Scorpio without one doesn't make much sense IMO.

Yeah best to wait till you have one. There should be great deals for them by then too, and every few months the deals will continue to improve. I don't know when the next gen is being planned for but I can see Scorpio doing well in the last few years of this gen when its own price starts dropping and 4K TVs are finally what can be called 'cheap'.

not anymore. it would have to be an almost complete "break" from the X1 to get me interested.

If Scorpio is not considered a "new gen" then I'll probably be more tempted to wait for the next gen of Xbox and see how it compares to the PS5.

as of now, the X1 "brand" is tainted in my eyes and I really want nothing more to do with it........lol.

You are correct, I put in a regular Blu Ray and it was 1080p. Did not notice before as I have only watch one regular Blu Ray and one 4K BR (San Andres) rest of the time its Netflix or games.

I plan on getting it (already saving) unless it is 800-1000 in price. I just do not think I could justify spending that much to the wife as I already have a regular and the S. I already do not play games as much since the little one arrived.

It's not going to be a complete break no. Will be powerful enough compared to the X1 to possibly be compared next gen but will be running the same games etc, just running them a lot better.

Shouldn't be anywhere near that high. Did you consider trading any (or both) of those consoles in for it?
