The pricey 3D tickets always hurt my view of a movie's boxoffice. I understand and respect your opinion but those are just my feelings.
I'm still impressed with Thor's domestic boxoffice numbers but with those ticket prices I'd be more impressed if it were headed for 275 to 300mil, instead of the 195 to 210mil it's headed for.
Seriously I'm not trying to down play it's success like some are I'm just saying that 200mil with 3D means like 170 to 175mil without it. Those are good numbers but not groundbreaking.
Also, a 5th movie in a franchise usually doesn't gross the most, thats a very rare thing indeed. I don't think you are giving Fast Five's boxoffice numbers enough credit. Thor supposedly started out the summer movie season but Fast Five will make more internationally and will sell more tickets domestically. (Thor could win on the money front domestically but it's going to be hard for it to sell as many tickets. It's possible I guess but it doesn't look likely)
Again, Thor is doing fine and I'm not trying to downplay it but it is having help that some other films don't. I've said the exact same thing about other 3D movies and don't see a reason to give Thor special treatment.
*Sigh* I used to have more fun following the boxoffice before 3D came along.
