Yeah I know what you mean. It could be they were aiming for something different. Soon we'll see for ourselves.

I think a Scientist/Businessman Lex would be great if handled right. Lex is Supermans Joker, there is no way around it.

But I hope hope hope hope hope hope hope they keep kryptonite out of this series completely or for as long as possible.

Keep the definition of of kryptonite as Supes battling his own demons, unless they have a clever way of adding it in. I agree.

Im wondering if in order to avoid a more direct comparison to BB they used flashbacks but in a different way and as a result it came out in some ways a bit disjointed.

Of course I say this not having seen the movie and going strictly off non-spoiler reviews, so what do I know.

Going back to watch BB again they're more similar than I remember in their uses of flashbacks. :yay: Maybe that's the Nolan doing his thing.

Yeah, Lex Luthor has so much potential for a sequel (smallville really naild it) if it is done right. And the let brainiac show up for the third movie if any.

Sounds like you still want a villain. ;)

There's a difference for me between being a "villain" and just being a bad guy. The villain should want the opposite of the hero. A bad guy can just be a d*ck. And like I said, I would love the idea that Lex wants the same thing and is often at odds with Superman not because of goals, but means and motivation. And, in time, it can create a much more antagonistic relationship that could make Lex become a full on villain, but I don't see a need to start there.

Autonet, do you think it's tonally appropriate to have Luthor in the sequel? Or would someone else be more appropriate?

Any examples of that happening?
IM3 - no
SM3 - no
X3 - no
Skyfall - debatable

I think TDK trilogy is the most consistently good trilogy (that I have watched).

Well, of course you're aware that you're not reporting facts, but just stating your opinion, right? Because I think the Iron Man series peaked at part three, with the first one still being an exceptional start.

Criticschoice has gone from 85 to 88

I wonder who scored the 100

For the people that watched the movie, how would you rate it?

I think (and this is controversial) if they approach the DOS storyline, it should be near the end of the Justice League. The main villain is defeated, but he left behind a "special present" for Superman. Superman should realize leaving his friends to battle it risks destroying them, so he sacrificially takes it on alone, and dies.

And then I'd want a good long while until a Return arc is adapted.

I think Doomsday could work as being unrelated to the main villain. Imagine a Justice League move where the JL has just finished dealing with a powerful supervillain, then BAM, out of nowhere comes Doomsday who quickly decimates the rest of the league, leaving only an already exhausted Superman to deal with him, and then he's of course killed defeating him. I think the idea could be that sometimes the heroes don't get a breather between villains, and it takes its toll.

Hey guys, just got back from The Purge.

Quick spoiler. Worst movie of the year. Avoid it.

you almost have to have Lex in a Superman movie franchise.

just like, at some point in a Batman franchise, you have to have Joker.

and besides, we haven't really seen the ruthless businessman/brilliant scientist Lex on the big screen yet.

in fact, I think in the sequel, having Superman deal with a "domestic" threat like Lex + Metallo, would be a welcome change from, say, Brainiac. cuz Brainiac would kind of be like another alien invasion ( with machines ).

The thing about Metallo is that he presents the same physical threat to Superman as Zod does. Do you really wanna see just another super powered fist fight in the next movie?

Braniac presents a different type of threat... technology. I have this image in my head of Superman rushing towards Braniac at full speed with his hand balled in a fist but Braniac is protected by some advanced force field and it sends Supes flying. He'd have to outwit him.

Exactly. Save Brainiac for World's Finest, while having Lex take on another level of villainy :)

^Whoever ends up playing Lex (assuming he's well written) better bring their A game because I have a feeling Shannon is about to set the new bar (or at least match the current one set by Ledger) for being the baddest of bad-a** baddies.

Last Thrusday, I saw an early press screening of Man of Steel! In 2D. Without spoiling anything, Cavill rocks!!

I like the idea of it being too slow moving for some. It must mean that there's a bit of actual plot :)

Interesting reaction, whatever the hell it means haha

Not sure if this has been posted on here yet (I read through all the pages and did not see it), so if it was I apologize.

Drew Mcweeny, who I consider a very good film critic, has seen MOS, and although he stated he is embargoed to write his full review until the 10th, he gave just a tinny teaser on his thoughts on Henry and where he is leaning in his review...

"Cavill has done something I didn't think was possible. For the first time ever, I wasn't thinking about Reeve at the end of the film. I don't think Cavill is working in his shadow because I don't think they're playing the same character. At all. Whatever you think of "Man Of Steel," it marks the beginning of a bold new chapter in what has become the most durable modern American myth, and Cavill's are the capable hands that have been trusted with carrying the ball for the moment."

Yeah I think McWeenys review will be glowing, he sounds like he loved it :). I tend to trust his reviews, when he posted as Moriarty over at AICN, his reviews always seemed to be the best of the batch.

^^^ Agree :)

BTW there is a review on YouTube from an early screener, I zoomed through most of it as everytime I forward and then played the review, he kept talking about things I didn't want to hear (as far as the exact timeline of each sequence). The guy stated that they did talk about the embargo, but he didn't sign nothing, so it's fair game for him.

He gave the film a 8 out of 10 and said it was very good, said Henry was good aswell, while saying MOS is a close second to Superman 2, which he adores. He's an older guy, maybe late 30's, so I can understand his feelings toward Sups 2 as thats my favorite Sups movie aswell, but does seem like one of those guys with nostalgia issues. He was critical, but thats what a review is about, talking about why you feel the film is not a perfect 10. Yes I skipped through most of his review, but the 8 or so times I did stop it he was being a critic, I didn't want to hear it.

If anyone wants to see it just type in Man of Steel Review into the Youtube Search Engine, its like the 2nd video down. But be warned, if you do not like spoilers, just skip to the end where he gives his final analysis and comments.
