It's a retelling of an origin story, that's enough.
Sharkboy, I apologize for not making my scarcasm more obvious. I fully see this as a retelling of the general story in STM and Superman II, minus Lex.

Some of you need to stop panicking.
You know alot of critics do not not like films with a lot of action, and a film with alot of action will not have a strong enough rating from alot of critics anyway and the story will not be has strong or development has some of you like.
Just because a film has a lot of action on that alone will reduce the rating of the film because critics do not like alot of action and superhero movies,so they will e more critical and bias.

See what i had to deal with for green lantern.
Face it to a certain extent this stuff just goes over some critics heads.
Keep in mind this superman is taking a more science fiction view.
That's another genre that many critics can't stand and are very bias toward.

It just need to have a interesting story and have the action to put enough folks in the seats.
In a live action movie with alot of action, the story is always not developed enough, but it still could be strong enough.
In other words superman 1 and 2 could still have a more develop story but many still might not like because of lack of action and other factors.
I rather take OR LIKE BETTER a 3 star movie anytime and THEN a 4 star movie that's boring.
GET IT?
GOOD.
By way superman 1 and 2 were great and not boring and superman 2 had a enough action for it's time, but this is a different time
Beside if the action is really good and story on a 3 star level who cares what some other critics think.
In the end you are the main critic and Your view and Audience views count the most.

Man of steel i think will do find and many will like more then the other superman movies most likely anyway
I JUST KNOW MORE WILL LIKE THEN SUPERMAN RETURNS,SO THAT'S BIG PLUS.

Do i need to remind some folks.

Speaking of critic reviews, anyone notice The Mummy was on AMC last night? That one only got a 55% RT rating, but it's a very enjoyable flick.

Dido????!!!!!

DAMN YOU, SIRS!

Damn.....

:yay:

Honestly, if 'great' films like Transformers, Alien vs Predator and Expendables can get sequels on poor RT ratings, then 'poor' MOS with its high level of action, marketability and FAR better critical response will definitely flop.... Or more likely break even as its made most of its budget back already...:whatever:

Bad example. As I mentioned earlier, I love Watchmen. But I know Snyder isn't a perfect director. Just like I know Nolan isn't either, and Goyer isn't a perfect writer.

Watchmen is brilliant in my opinion. The only Nolan film I would put above it is The Prestige.

Some people cant see the forest for the trees, others cut off their nose despite their face.

The saying is, one cuts off their nose to spite their face. It is "to spite your face", not "despite your face". :O

"Man Of Steel just keeps bouncing from big scene to big scene. What's missing is the strong connective tissue inbetween them - the film doesn't earn its big moments and this highlight-reel cinema leaves little room for character development."

This is my biggest complaint with The Amazing Spiderman, which I think is a lousy movie - and my main concern with reboots in general.

I really do feel "soft" reboots, generally, are the way to go.

I am now having trouble breathing. The laughter is too much.

I do love the Prestige. But Watchmen's had my top spot for a while now.

Still hoping MOS will push it off though :)

relax everybody... this is a reboot. Read some of the 41 rotten reviews from Begins.
Some people just don't see the big picture: the reboot is a great opportunity to update a beloved character story but the juice will be in the sequels. One review of Begins says simply: A nonstarter. How ******ed it sounds today right? It must be a success but not a smash hit. Begins made just as much money as Returns. But the interest of seeing more brought us TDK and TDKR, one of the best trilogies ever. We need to relax and hope the film delivers.

HAHA this place is fun :funny:

If there is a lesson from this, WB should Not reboot Batman franchise.

or you cant deal with differing opinion i like watchmen far more than i liked tdk

No, because that confuses the general audience. Returns was vague on whether it was a sequel or reboot, and nobody complimented it for that.

Yeah, let's blame Zack's wife. :oldrazz:

I never said anything about divvying up the blame now...at the end of the day we don't have a clue who's more at fault than the other. That's why I think the knee-jerk hissy fits on this board are premature; it's far too early to say, especially considering the fact that the loudest people here are the ones who haven't seen the film.

Wrong. As has been stated incorrectly for 3 years on here, it is nothing like STM or Superman II.

People need to learn how the system works. That is not what is happening.

How exactly does the system work?
