Funny how other reviews have had a go at Lois and this ones praising her

If they go after Lois it should be in characterization/plot only. Her acting was great. Then again I'm not a critic who sees errant eye twitches.

To say he gave it 3 and a half out of 5 he still praised the film alot
I may be wrong, but I think thats out of four stars.

The two reviews above have actually had a dig at Shannon as Zod

It is out of 4 stars annnnd where has Lois been criticized....? All I have read is the 'love story' is underdeveloped.

Well, unless they get run off to Florence together at the end, it isn't THAT critical. They need chemistry.

It really sounds like we have nothing to worry about.
Really loving how some are saying the action is brutal, long, etc etc...me likey.

There's a 20 minute long love flight around the world while Zod destroys Metropolis. Superman gets back and gives the "oops" face from the Hardees Commercial.

I have not seen MOS, but it sounds like a lot of these reviewers are holding Michael Shannon to a very high standard based on his past performances. Most of these reviewers have seen all of Shannon's previous work and I think they may be judging him by the very high bar he has set for himself. I guess Shannon is a victim of his own success.

:whatever:

I don't know, it's so weird that before the embargo, we had only praise about Shannon, and then, all of a sudden, he's a weak link? Drew McWeeny from Hitfix said he's one of the most me morable villains, I'll trust his word.

Shannon is not going to be Heath Ledger here but I am sure he will be the best Superman villain yet in film..

this one too.

I've read SHH members saying that he was amazing and I have no doubt he will be, but do you really get to know his motivation? because that seems to be what those reviewers had a problem with, not his performance.

Anyway, I think that this cast is so brilliant that trying to find the weakest performance is gonna be nitpicking :p

It's odd that the reviewer referred to Shannon's role in Revolutionary Road as villainous. His character, John Givings, was suffering from mental illness and was one of the few people in the film to speak the truth. He wasn't evil or mean; he just didn't follow the strict social conventions that dominated American culture throughout the 1950s. Anyway, I think Shannon will be fantastic.

Problem is that Heath probably had twice as much screen time that Shannon has (with talking, not punching), maybe more. Shannon isn't going to win awards for it, but who cares?

Acting is one thing, having a great script, and character building by the director is another... Snyder is never known for character building... you'll love MOS because of the cool special effects.. but i doubt anyone can say that the characters will be well developed... you can't develop so many characters in a 2:30 movie.... After all that's said and done, I am pretty sure:

1. The love angle between lois and clark will not be properly built...
2. Zod's backstory, or his story will not be properly built as well...

People will say this is a story about Superman and his journey, not anyone else.. yes, but then you can't really care about someone in a vacuum.. you can show one guy going from one place to another, exploring his emotions from one to another, his interactions with a bunch of other people, but if you don't have a 'relationship' between the main character and someone else that is so strong, that you won't want anything to happen to it.. like say, lois and clarke,.. etc, then you won't care as much... that's the secret ingredient that only a few directors have mastered... the main character is only 'important' in relation to others...

I don't get it.

Psychopaths never really intrigued me... and Heath plays a psychopath well enough.. never really understood the craze about it though...

I should really be impressed by Shannon in this since I've only really seen him in Let's Go To Prison (What a delightful force of nature, serendipity). Not exactly a role that required Oscar caliber acting.

I don't get it.

HAHA.. sorry about that.. my english isn't very good.. i can ramble on and not make much sense...

I am not sure if i even know how to say what i want to say here because it's a complex thing...

Ok, I'll try again... maybe with an example..

From what we know, MOS is about mainly Superman, his self discovery, what people think of him when he's discovered, where he came from, etc.. now, that really just translate to a 'documentary'...

In order for people to 'care', you need to insert 'love'... which is human's greatest desire... so, for example, instead of all that 'origin', or concentrating on so many different characters, the entire story, if written in such a way as a love story between Lois and Clark, and there's a danger to their relationship... and everything else is just the backdrop (the cgi, the special effects, the backstory, etc), then that would capture the heart of all audiences... that's why Cameron's movies (thought have simple scripts) appeal to so many across the board.. becuase all of them are actually, if you break them down, just a love story... from Terminator to Titanic to Avatar...

So, here's some examples..

Instead of a scene of young clark being bullied, why not a young clark being picked on, and a younger Lois coming to his rescue.. and throughout his journey into adulthood, the two lives are inter-mingled, but neither one of them know how important they'll be to each other.. maybe, start from a scene where the kents brought a 1.5 year old clark shopping, and there was a robbery, and baby clark foil the robbery, and inadvertently saved a baby lois.. etc.. all the way thru to his adulthood... that way, when they actually meet later in life, they'll have a whole 'destiny, love' believable love angle... etc...

btw: Love between a man/women is just one thing.. that's just an example... in Aliens, it's about Ripley and the Little Girl... that's powerful too... there needs to be powerful connection between people that tugs at the heartstring... it could be brothers, father and son, family, etc...

And my main point is 'Snyder is not great with that sort of thing'...
