Oh lord... I hope the tide doesn't start to turn. The movie has been having great momentum so far.

Funnily enough I prefer Begins to TDK but TDK was amazing. I also prefer X1 to X2. X2 was typical Bryan Singer for me, not big enough and long as hell, I was bored to tears by the end. XFC is the best X film for me but that's just my opinion.

You're practically me with these opinions! There aren't many of us who feel this way, I don't think.

Some of you guys need to stop worrying so much about movie critics and RT.

Seriously, go see the movie for yourself. Don’t let someone else tell you what you think of it. This is why I will never take a movie critic seriously. How much validity is there in a job where you get paid to tell your opinion on something? It doesn’t really make sense to me and it never will.

What I've read so far on twitter and other blogs, I’d say roughly 90% of the people who saw the movie loved it.

So, take a chill pill and everything will be okay. :yay:

Incidently - back in the day reviewers were trusted because they had an education into film making and understood what went into it.

NOW - on the other hand - the majority are loud mouth'd idiots looking for attention (ironic, eh fellow fanboys?) or FAILED film makers themselves acting like they're Gods gifts to movies (again... sound familiar?).

There's a few who know what they're doing, but as a whole these are normal people who THINK they represent other normal people. In actuallity negative reviews get more web page hits, thus they get more advertising dollars. They usually will try to hate something UNLESS it's some industry "given" that it will make lots of bank.

Fast 6 deserved higher than the low 70's that it got - Box office was caught off guard on that one. Audiences knew tho.

And TDKR - while trying not to open that jar of bees - does not deserve the 80's rank it got.

These people are usually generally close to the mark, but often off by a bit. And that bit adds up the more they pile on.

I've said it before. Superman punches things. It's already leaps and bounds over SR.

If a 3/5 doesn't count as fresh, there is no way in hell I'm taking this tomato site seriously.

I guess WB decided to sabotage themselves with their ninjas in the site. Maybe they decided to hold themselves to higher standards and told critics to be extra critical than they would otherwise. More power to them. Wish other studios did the same... :hehe:

I think people are missing the point here. The point is, this movie wasn't expected to be a 3/5. Everyone on here was expecting a 3.5/4 star film or 4/5. Something comparable to the Nolan series critically. And if you didn't have those expectations, I say they were too low, for whatever reason. So ask yourself, why on Earth should 3/5 be an acceptable or a fresh review, if you are a reviewer and expected something that was on par with another recent superhero trilogy?

3/5 review is nowhere near acceptable given the cast and crew involved here. DC was supposed to be the company that gave you something "more" than Marvel, whatever you want to take from that. It is supposed to gravitate to a more mature audience with heavier themes, and rid itself of summer blockbuster cliches. Don't settle for mediocrity with Superman. EVER.

Actually, that's a small positive (fresh).

OK, I am not that familiar with Michael Phillips, but I know with Roger Ebert's old system two and a half stars out of four was not horrible but still not a positive review. I now just skimmed through Phillips' review and it does seem that his review is rather mixed like he is saying that he found a lot in the film grotesque, but he thinks it will be a crowd pleaser. :whatever:

oh man :csad: but to give it 3/5 and call it rotten is funny.
I agree. I think that's why the simple fresh or rotten thing becomes more accurate though. That's basically a yes/no to if they recommend it or not. It's simple to follow and should be fairly consistent between different reviewers.

Reviewers treat their grades very differently so that's much harder to go by. Some reviewers give max grade to all really good movies while others give it just a couple of times per year. Some treat the middle as good, other as mediocre. The list of differences is long.

But again, reviews matter little to whether we will enjoy it.

Just something I put together. Critics' Choice scores versus Rotten Tomatoes scores for various comic book adaptations (Iron Man 1,2, and 3; The Avengers; Batman Begins, the Dark Knight, and TDKR; Spiderman 3; Captain America: TFA; The Hulk and Incredible Hulk; Superman Returns; and Thor).

Clearly, a linear trend exists, but the correlation is fairly weak (the linear regression can only account for ~63% of the variance in the two data sets). That said, if we assume the Critics' Choice score will remain at 88/100 (as it has for several days now), then the linear model predicts a Rotten Tomatoes score of ~84%; that, in my opinion, is a fairly conservative estimate from the data, and the final RT score has an equal chance of being higher or lower than that.

Thought that might help some people calm their nerves.

PS: This is the End

(which I've seen) was certified fresh at 50 reviews.

I'm assuming that's the golden number?

Everyone's had enough of RT. No one likes the place any more. Yet everyone's still F5ing the place like their grannies' lives depend on it. I am shocked, I thought it'd be better received than this, but it will play no part in what I go in thinking and what I do or do not get from the viewing. It just needs to be entertaining and that's all. It's just a film I'm hoping to enjoy.

Heh, no, I didn't bold his BB opinion because I didn't agree with it. I hated Begins. I highlighted his TDK being awesome opinion. :cwink:

I don't know about that. The fact it's Zach Snyder frankly had me expecting a much lower score early on. Not to mention the fact they were completely rebooting the franchise and going in a much darker direction from before.

The fact it's still in the 70s is pretty damn good, if you ask me.

What sort of new species are you? lol

Just kidding

But yeah Batman Begins and X-Men First Class are good movies IMO, so yeah I could see why you really prefer them over others. :yay:

Why exactly did you hate Begins?

The first half of the movie was so slow and boring. I practically fell asleep. I liked the third act...the part that pretty much everyone else thought was the worst part of the movie.

Yuk. No wonder they killed you off!

It's showing the linearity and predictability of the two scores, which should be taken with a grain of salt because who knows what movies they chose. Last I checked, your coefficient of determination needs to be close to 1 for a solid trend (not a statistics guy do don't quote me). 0.6 is not a great trend predicter.

Look at this guys rating of MoS: 3/5. This is classified as a rotten review, and yet EVERY other film that he gave 3/5 to or more is considered a fresh review. W.T.F.?

He also gave Hangover 3, IM3, and Looper higher rankings than MOS. Its hard to get a read when he ranked each new Stark Trek movie as 5/5 equal to TDK and TDKR.
