I can't believe Hobbit got a 65%...I absolutely adored that movie. Does everyone else here hate that film too?

Everyone's had enough of RT. No one likes the place any more. Yet everyone's still F5ing the place like their grannies' lives depend on it. I am shocked, I thought it'd be better received than this, but it will play no part in what I go in thinking and what I do or do not get from the viewing. It just needs to be entertaining and that's all. It's just a film I'm hoping to enjoy.

Guilty as charged about F5ing RT but you are right its a flawed site. If a reviewer gives the movie a B- or 3/5 dont turn around and call it rotten. I think critics choice of 88/100, cinescore, and metacritic are more accurate. Metacritic has positive and mixed reviews so far but no negatives. But if this movie gets one bad review everyone jumps ship. A person needs to be their own critic and not let someone else who might not even like comics decide ur decision

It's showing the linearity and predictability of the two scores, which should be taken with a grain of salt because who knows what movies they chose. Last I checked, your coefficient of determination needs to be close to 1 for a solid trend (not a statistics guy do don't quote me). 0.6 is not a great trend predicter.

I think the gif is in response to the fact someone actually took the time to do that.

I don't know about that. The fact it's Zach Snyder frankly had me expecting a much lower score early on. Not to mention the fact they were completely rebooting the franchise and going in a much darker direction from before.

The fact it's still in the 70s is pretty damn good, if you ask me.

The fact that it was Snyder is the only thing that should have held expectations way back. Hate to keep ragging, but this is what Snyder is. MoS may very well be the apex of his career. Not a bad career thus far by any stretch considering this movie will still be successful.

And TDKR - while trying not to open that jar of bees - does not deserve the 80's rank it got.

What exactly do you mean by this? That it should have gotten higher or lower than 80%?

Just something I put together. Critics' Choice scores versus Rotten Tomatoes scores for various comic book adaptations (Iron Man 1,2, and 3; The Avengers; Batman Begins, the Dark Knight, and TDKR; Spiderman 3; Captain America: TFA; The Hulk and Incredible Hulk; Superman Returns; and Thor).

Clearly, a linear trend exists, but the correlation is fairly weak (the linear regression can only account for ~63% of the variance in the two data sets). That said, if we assume the Critics' Choice score will remain at 88/100 (as it has for several days now), then the linear model predicts a Rotten Tomatoes score of ~84%; that, in my opinion, is a fairly conservative estimate from the data, and the final RT score has an equal chance of being higher or lower than that.

Thought that might help some people calm their nerves.

Can't believe you did this :P but I'll be sure to remember when the results come. Would be interesting to see if the prediction holds true.

I thought it was a big drop-off from the LOTR trilogy. It seemed like a film to me where it would have helped if you were a fan of the Hobbit book. Im my view 65% would be fair.

Not a bad movie but one that didn't particularity stick with me as a big fan of the original trilogy.

Beginser here. Gotham just had so much life to it in BB. By TDKR, it was Generic City, USA.

Begins had more focus on Bruce / Batman.

I love the Batman universe, yes, but I love Batman more than his universe.

Regardless - this is not the place to get into this discussion.

There are hundreds of Superman fans buzzing about...

He also gave Hangover 3, IM3, and Looper higher rankings than MOS. Its hard to get a read when he ranked each new Stark Trek movie as 5/5 equal to TDK and TDKR.

I actually thought Star Trek was the best movie of the year so far.. and definitely better than TDK or TDKR...

Hangover 3 and IM3 were fun too...

Looks like he's looking for movies that are fun...

atleast 4 reviews feel like they should be fresh

3 reviews i read are rated 3/5 and another was scored a B-

Yeah Robot, I'd agree fun seems to be key which isn't bad at all. I enjoyed those as well, it's always interesting to see what the critics thoughts on various movies he has above MOS, I mean he's got IM2 higher too

PS: This is the End

(which I've seen) was certified fresh at 50 reviews.

I'm assuming that's the golden number?

Maybe?

It seems though that films are given a consensus around 30 or so reviews.

But everyone should really chill over this RT/review stuff. Go watch the film and decide for yourselves regardless of what the RT score is (especially those denouncing RT). I understand that everyone is extremely excited for MOS, but look at it this way; had it been a movie that you weren't looking forward to or disliked for some reason you probably wouldn't care and might even use those scores to validate your criticisms. So what if MOS doesn't receive stellar reviews? That shouldn't validate anyone's opinion on the film.

In the end, RT is still a fairly valuable site for aggregating general consensus for critics.

While obviously I would love for MOS to be in the 80's or 90's on RT, I wouldn't hurt to bad over a 70%, that's still a great score by RT standards. Heck, me and my woman absolutely LOVED the movie "Mirrors" after seeing it in the theaters (bought the movie once it was released on BluRay), and that movie sits at an 11% on RT. This is why I really never look at reviews before seeing a movie, what other may not like you may love.

TDKR deserved to crack 90 IMO. Got close enough though.

Anyway, as long as this film scores lower than Superman Returns on RT there's pretty much no way I can take its score too seriously. I definitely agree that the art of film criticism has become very diluted by all the bloggers. At the same time, some major critics are giving this more tepid reviews so it gives me some pause. But on the other hand, people I trust have called it a classic. Really hard to know where I'll stand on it until I see it...which is kind of exciting actually.

From RottenTomatoes themselves.

Rotten Tomatoes awards the Certified Fresh accolade to theatrical releases reviewed by 40 or more critics (including 5 Top Critics) with a steady score of 75% or higher on the Tomatometer. A film remains Certified Fresh unless its Tomatometer falls below 70%. Reserved for the best-reviewed films, the Certified Fresh accolade constitutes a seal of approval, synonymous with quality.

If the GA love the movie, none of this will matter I guess.
