Looks like this is another Zack Snyder film where the acting is good but people choose to ignore it, the plot and character development is all there but people don't expect it so they don't see it, and the action is amazing but for some reason that is a bad thing.

If this were a film by any another director I would be very worried about the direction these reviews are taking.

.

And I guess you're one the few that can see through the smoke?:woot:

While I realize it's possible for this to be the case in a bad way ala the end of Transformers 2,

The only way this is bad is if the action doesn't escalate as it goes on.

Besides - this makes up for the lack of action in Superman Returns.

The action does indeed escalate as the film moves along I would say there is at least 40-45 minutes of relentless action to close out MoS. It's pretty insane but not overdone IMO there is balance in there just not as much as some people would like. It did not bother me at all.

Did I get everything I wanted out of "Man of Steel?" No, but is that a realistic expectation? I have a Superman in my mind formed by Christopher Reeve and "Superman: The Animated Series," which sets a nearly impossible standard. Even adjusting for that bias, the film is still overly long and paced so oddly that once it is over, you feel more like you've survived an ordeal than been inspired by a character we're told repeatedly is meant to bring us into the light. While it has many strengths to offer, the film is not a completely satisfying whole. But, at the very least, Superman finally gets to fight someone with his fists and that is definitely a satisfying thing to see.

Sounds mostly positive to me.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

It's like certain reviewers can't bring themselves to praise Snyder for anything other than the visuals, 'cause they're afraid their credibility as Professional Film Critics will go out the window.

give me a break....

Nah, even the negative reviews have praised the performances of pretty much every cast member. But for some reason, that doesn't factor into their rating. Just the "ZOMG SO MUCH ACTION THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT" does.

Like all people in the public eye who get to run their mouths about other people - they've put him in a box.... now he has to stay there because it makes their jobs easier.

No one is allowed to change for the better these days. Only fall from where they put you when you first get there.

It's Hollywood business as usual.

Couldn't agree more. The guy gets criticized for being an action junkie and for being thin on characters, and yet Watchmen was a 3 hour long superhero epic featuring characters talking with little to no grand action spectacle. And the critics didn't like that either. The guy cannot win. I thought Watchmen was probably the greatest superhero movie I had ever seen.

damn some people are just stubborn, no way around it, i like those interpretations like anyone else, but superman the movie looks quite dated for the modern audience . Some people will always be tied to the Donner movies no matter what, even Batman didnt have this issue

Not necessarily, people to this day still hold Michael Keaton's Batman to a higher standard than Christian Bale's, in spite of the fact that he still played a pretty damn good Batman.

Snyder doesn't have a track record of action over story.

style over substance would be a more accurate criticism.

Oh, give me a break. So Zack Snyder is some ignored genius now?

I'll wait to see the film before I judge it, but I'd be lying if I thought Zack Snyder has ever directed a decent film.
