So are more reviews going to start rolling in soon? Because RT still only has 40.

Some will be tallied later tonight and tomorrow morning, but others trickling in. Using Dark Knight Rises as a barometer, I expect around 260-265 total reviews.

Isn't Rex Reed that idiot who spent part of is his review of 'Identity Thief' complaining about how fat Melissa McCarthy is?:down Sorry. I don't listen to the opinions of a troglodyte.

That line never bothered me, and is a terrible example.

That's fine, but it's been joked about on these boards since 2008. Somebody I think used it as a tag line or their avatar name I believe.

I have to disagree about Snyder not deserving credit for making Watchmen work.

The film was in developmental hell for 2 decades. Terry Gilliam wanted WB to commit to 3 Watchmen movies, feeling it couldnt be done in 1 film, and finally left the project considering the story unfilmable.

Theres some things I dont like about Watchmen, espeically some action sequences, but my list of nitpicks is actually rather small. I like the film, especially the Dir Cut.

I don't see how. He still had to get good performances out of the actors and the scenes still need the required weight to be effective. Both of which were the case. As you said, the best parts are where he needed to embellish the material and sticking too closely to the book gave the film it's real, actual problem, which was the pacing.

I don't know? the best performance to me came from Jackie Earl Haley and him just reading lines straight from the comic with no director at all would have probably provided the same result, in that he's that good in general.

I brought this up when i brought up sucker-punch here a little while ago in that it seems that snyder needs to be sort of reigned in imo for his work to be effective. I think in watchmen he stuck too close to the book and in SP he had way too much creative freedom and it also back-fired (in much greater terms).

I'm not sure how it's worked with MOS realy at this point? but i've been nervous about it for a while. Snyder was a risk and it may have backfired?

So, let me get this straight. The general consensus seems to be "We wanted more action after "Superman Returns", but this is TOO MUCH action!"?

The key is balance. Maybe the Directors Cut will be more balanced. And WB should release one!

No, the fans, you and I, wanted more action. The critics overall were quite satisfied with Superman Returns.

So, should we be on suicide watch for some Hype members?

What puzzles me is the reaction to, "NO MORE DEAD COPS!!!".
We all know that's probably how it would've gone down in real life. There's usually some idiot in the crowd looking to get a rise or reaction. Yeah, it's kinda stupid, but let's not pretend that couldn't happen.

The acting was definitely good in Watchmen, I wouldn't go so far as Oscar worthy...but they did the characters justice, but I do agree with the notion that it was a very uninspired film that felt as paint by the numbers as could be. Would have prefered a real visionary that wanted to make a film first, a comic adaptation second.

That's what worries me about MoS, I don't want it to be the kneejerk reaction to superman returns, I don't want it to be action porn, just guys fighting and exploding and destroying buildings for 2 hours. It's easy to think that superman fans want that more than anything, but if you don't have story....why bother?

Then again most of the reviews don't suggest it ever goes that far...but who knows?

No it's more like, we want more action....ok now that's too much action, there's nothing else!

As per Action vs plot development i think we would have to put the "blame" on snyder for that one assuming it's as imbalanced as some of the critics are saying it is.

I thought Nolan in his films in general has always had the right balance in that regards, however that is a staple criticism for snyder.

I hate to point out the bleeding obvious but there is the strong possibility that the movie isn't nearly as good as everyone hoped for.

I'm thinking this film will get a lot more love from the GA.

lolno

Not necessarily, people to this day still hold Michael Keaton's Batman to a higher standard than Christian Bale's, in spite of the fact that he still played a pretty damn good Batman.

I'm actually gonna back this up, I know people who do hold the Keaton batman in higher regard. To them it's more in line with the original bob Kane interpretation. Which isn't untrue. My cousin, my good friend, people on specific batman movie boards, like BOTB, batman online etc, really love the Keaton batman. Most of them are actually in their late 20s/early 30s and grew up with the Keaton batman(as I did). Keaton will always be their batman.

I personally love every single batman interpretation, I'm the biggest bat fan I know... but I'm much more selective on superman. I borderline hate the donner era films. I can tolerate returns from an artistic standpoint, it reminds me of the fliescher era which I love. I LOVE stas and the JL/JLU superman. Hate smallville, kinda liked dean cains supes, lol. So yea, I'm picky with my superman. So far what I've seen from man of steel is my perfect superman film. I know it going to absolutely love it. A badass intimidating/fighting superman with a sci if flare.

Eh, I'll reserve my judgment for when I leave the theater. I've yet to see one Hypster give a lukewarm review for this film.

Or that mean ole critics hate Snyder's obvious yet underrated brilliance! :cmad:

But most likely what you said, yeah.
