It's not impossible. Recently, Star Trek 2 was at 78% after 18 reviews and ended up at 87% after 234 reviews.

I remember that, and am holding out hope that MOS will do something similar. I had been worried that STID wouldn't be very good when it started out in the 70's and then to my pleasant surprise, it just climbed up and up. I loved STID just as much as the first one.

unfortunately, humor is neither Nolan's nor Goyer's nor Snyder's strong suit. assuming the reviews are accurate, its disappointing that there arent a few (successful) moments of levity in the film. heck, even TDK had some witty lines and moments. o well.

Obviously, The Iron-Man franchise and dorky, campy but action'y Avengers is what critics want in there films.
That explains why the serious and brooding Skyfall has over 90% rating.

The guy's ****ing planet blew up and he's the last of his kind. He's an alien outsider. I really don't see where we can add humor here.

Well i can understand if superman is in a fighting scene and makes zod and his crew look real dumb that he sweeps the floor with them by beating the crap out of all them and superman does it in a funny way then ok. But other than that i dont want the movie to be too comical i mean cmon superman is a serious character not to be mess with.

I don't think it's just that the origin is being retold. It kinda sounds like the editing isn't very good during that part of the film. Jeremy Jahns complained that it felt like they were going through the motions to get to the action scenes.

Multiple forum posters I've talked to have said there were pacing/editing issues during the origin part of the film. I'm just not getting the vibe that this part of the film was put together as well as BB or S:TM (the two movies that influenced MOS more than anything else). But bright side is it sounds like the action is amazing, even if it does drag on longer than necessary.

I get that, but that's a whole separate issue. Roeper seemed particularly turned off by the fact that this was another film that dealt with Superman's origins, regardless of the quality or lack-there-of with which it was dealt.

Indeed so.

I enjoyed ST2 a lot too, though I give a tiny edge to ST1. Both very fun movies and ST2 is a completely worthy sequel. My concern with MOS compared to ST2 is that Abrams has always been better with writing/storytelling than Snyder, so I'm not as confident that MOS can bounce back as strongly as ST2 did.

Much more important than the critic rating, however, will be the box office performance. JLA will be shelved again if this underperforms, so hopefully it does well (even if I dislike the film itself).

Pudding and tasting people.... Pudding and tasting. (sigh)

And yet comic book writers have been finding the humor in him for 75 years, including Grant Morrison, in perhaps the best Superhero comic book ever written, All Star Superman.

Why all the negativity? There are many reviewers giving MOS 9's and 9.5'. It's 12 people on RT, just because the movie wasn't there flavor don't let that get you guys down, I'm still just as pumped as ever for this movie!

I'm saying it wouldn't fit the tone of this particular film as they are clearly going for a more serious, grounded approach to the material.

I have said all along that while I thought that Superman should be taken seriously on film, a Superman film without comedy is like a Spider-man film without comedy. The two characters are supposed to have some brevity. If not them, then the people around them.

But that doesn't mean that's the right approach, and it doesn't mean the film should be without humour. Even TDK and TDKR had humour.

From what I've heard, it's a 1.5-2 hour wait until someone makes a joke.

Since when was Superman supposed to have comedy? What a ridiculous assertion.

You know another thing that has hit me... We have old school critics trying to rate this generation's Superman. I think because of the other versions they grew up with / saw before... it's influencing their reaction.

and who is to say "this generation's" superman is at all an improvement or that they aren't simply responding well to the filmmaking and writing itself?

I enjoy a good serious action film. Still can't wait to see the movie.
